ChicagoCaseyParticipantI know I might catch some flack by what I’m about to say, but I have to start this conversation, if nobody started it already. I just got threw watching Chino Hill vs. SC for the state championship. Throughout the game the broadcasters where hyping him, along with his brothers up. They called him by far the best point guard in this years class. And on twitter a lot of experts proclaim him that and some even say he’s the best prospect in this loaded class. I’m not going to knock Lonzo Ball, but I just want to be inform on why the hype.
I like Lonzo Ball and his game, I believe he is one of the best point guards in the counry based only on skill level and physical measurments. I would not call him the best because he don’t have the body of work going against the elite players at his position as other players at his position. The only person I seen him going head to head against is Malik Monk, and Monk put up 50 points on him and his team. I would like to see him go against Markelle Fultz, Frank Jackson, De’Aaron Fox, Kobi Simmons, and Dennis Smith. I want to see him square off against them and see how he fares before proclaiming him the best.
Do not get me wrong, I love Ball game and I believe he will be a star in college, but I wouldn’t claim that he is the best w/o the body of work and resume. I know his team traveled to the City of Palms and they went against Bam Adebayo, but they didn’t go against teams with a elite point guard prospect. I do not recall him going against one in the summer circuit and this high school season. If you can give me more insight about the competition he have faced I would be delighted.
Here go my 2016 high school point guard rankings
- Markelle Fultz – He grew on me a lot. I see a lot of a more athletic D’Angelo Russell
- De’Aaron Fox – Great combination of height and athletic ability
- Dennis Smith – Watch him this summer and change my opinion on him; beast
- Malik Monk- Fell down my rankings, needs to work on handle and passing
- Lonzo Ball – Need to see more against top level competition, consistently.

ncballerI have seen Ball play live twice over the summer and I may have caught him off his game both times. I just never saw the Magic Johnson court vision that everyone talks about in regards to his game. He looked just like another player out there. That is not to say he is not a special talent, I only saw him underperform twice. I am with you though, it seems like espn especially is on his bandwagon.

Bigdog2002ParticipantHe got talent, but I see a lot of OJ Mayo in him as far as game. Very confindent knows he is better then comp, takes some Steph type shots and that is reckless, only one Steph. Not sure if he is a 1 or 2, and that is always bad for the league.

KingPapasParticipantHe played for a small AAU team so I don’t think he has played them as much but I’m sure I read somewhere where he has played them in a camp setting. I know he has played against a lot of those guards at an AAU tournament in Vegas last year. It was all the buzz because everyone wanted to see how he played against that level of comp bcuz he didnt play on a shoe circuit team and word was he did not disappoint.

MorseWillParticipantPre-Injury, I like Dennis Smith the Most in this loaded PG class… Just my opinion but he looks to project as a Star in both college and NBA eventually assuming he gets back fully healthy
