The8thDeadlySinParticipantRemember the trade for Dwight last year? Everyone said the Lakers were the ultimate winners. Could be said that the Nuggets came out on top. Also could be argued that the 76ers got their C of the future and the Magic got shafted.
Lets look at the moving parts from the original trade.
Lakers got:
Dwight HowardNuggets got:
Andre Iguadala76ers got:
Andrew Bynum
Jason RichardsonMagic got:
Aaron Aflallo
Al Harrington
Mo Harkless
Nicola Vucevic
Josh McRoberts
Christian EyengaNow, who was the real winner of the Dwight Trade?
.
Lakers lost because Dwight is gone to Houston.
Nuggets lost because Iggy is gone to Golden State.
76ers lost because when Bynum decided to miss the whole season, decided to turn into a rebuilding team and will most likely not resign Bynum.
And the Magic got fantastic young pieces for a guy that was leaving anyway. They also were able to go snag Tobias Harris and Doron Lamb.. They ended up with 3 starters from the trade and were able to trade for a 4th.Its just funny to look back and see how all this has played out..
The only team that will retain any player from this trade for more than a year is the Magic.. So would have ever seen this coming last season?

drk3351ParticipantMagic were the winners as they got big pieces, and 76ers were the definite losers, but LA really didn’t lose as they traded Dwight for Bynum and at least Dwight played 1 year in LA while Bynum didn’t.

BenchWarmerParticipant“Bynum decided to miss the whole season” that unfair man. Talented young man having his career robbed by knee problems and you are implying he chose it.

khaled_a_dParticipant@drk3351 ,while that was true ,you can argue Bynum could have been re-signed by Lakers ,same wasn’t the case for D12

drk3351ParticipantSUre he could have been re signed, but his knee is reportably so bad he may never play again

RafterParticipantGotta love it, another high-profile move that involved the Lakers and the Gasols is another example of the depth of trades. It sucks for the 76ers because those young pieces came from them which would of really helped their current restoration process.

DoubleNickelsDurr55ParticipantWhen you break it down like that your right, its pretty amazing how it didnt really pan out for anyone except the magic.
Those laker draft picks are looking really good.
Bynum should of gone to UCONN, built up his body stronger. But that’s all coulda, woulda, shoulda.

SubZeroParticipantWell, the Nuggets did get rid of Al Harrington, so there’s that.

Tongue-Out-Like-23ParticipantI remember we all laughed at Orlando for the pieces they got. Now we look stupid. At least I do

GrandmamaParticipantPersonally I liked the trade for Orlando last year. I knew they weren’t going to get equal value in return for Howard, but it didn’t matter. Whenever you can get assets for a player who will be leaving anyways is always a win. Harkless and Vucevic were the main reasons I liked the trade, two young guys who had some upside.

Sewok15ParticipantI am with you and didn’t think the trade was all that bad for Orlando. They had to deal him because they knew he was already gone so teams weren’t exactly offering them great packages. I was really high on Vucevic but even I was surprised how he was a beast on the boards this year. I thought he was a little soft but I knew he was one of the more skilled big men in the league. Collins didn’t play him because he never plays young guys…throw in Harkless and Iggy and one thing I knew for sure was the Sixers were dummies…Once it was clear Bynum had no interest in playing it made the trade laughable from the Sixers standpoint. We all know they could have had Drummond or Barnes with the pick they could have got for Iggy and had a great young core to move forward with. Instead the new regime had to start pretty much completely over.

HOops1562ParticipantDamn is that 2017 pick from the Lakers protected ? … if not Magic win this trade by a mile … the Lakers look like a team on the cusp of rebuilding Pau and Nash are way to old and Kobe is 34 going on 35 … that 2017 could be #1 overall ..

llperezThe 2017 pick says conditional and I can only assume that means protected. And for the 100th time, does anyone honestly think that nobody will take the lakers money next summer let alone by 2017?

The8thDeadlySinParticipantI can see Melo leaving NY for LA. Lamarcus Aldridge wants out of Portland so maybe him too..

Junior Greek BallerParticipantI laugh how Dwight is considered the best centre in the league yets still only shoots 50% FT.
This title of leagues best centre should be given to Marc Gasol

Big_C_KUParticipantI never understood peoples criticism of Magic in the trade. I liked Vucevic and Harkless and I always consider getting a bunch of.draft picks for player who is going to leave anyway a good deal.

slash787ParticipantYou also need to take into account the trade helped the Magic tank which in turn netted them the 2nd overall pick. So adding that to the mix they win it by an even larger margin.
