His value has hit rock bottom, which is frustrating because it either ends in him being traded for nothing, or him taking away minutes from Jonas while they try to build his value up. Lose lose. Seems like the franchise story for Toronto.

I have a few that is a raptors fan and he was talking about trading him back at the deadline and was talking about what all Toronto could get from him and I just laughed. Toronto literally is going to have to give him away if they want him gone.

This is on Bryan Colangelo. When are these team CO’s gonna learn? For every Dirk, there are 50 Nikoloz Tskitishvili out there. Or just a touch better Bargnani. Quit wasting picks on euro players. Instead of laughing at the misfortune of a guy that was just not cut out to be a number 1 pick, jeer at the CO. Bargnani should have been a 10-14 pick, like a Channing Frye type of role player. Even though Colangelo knew what he had in Bargnani, he gave him a big contract. Raptor fans get your pitchforks and break down the Colangelo mansion doors!

his talent garnered him a top 10 spot in that weak draft. no one could of measured his lack of motivation to get better and poor work ethics. the blame is still on BC but bargs is better than a frye type role guy or at least he was…

Yeah looking at Bargnani in pre-draft workouts and scrimmages when he was younger, he was physical, aggressive and lean, not the slow, ponderous and soft player we see today.

You also have to bear in mind that he came in with a very similar skill-set to Chris Bosh, and so had to adjust his game accordingly rather than being given the chance to play his game right away. It’s only been since Bosh has left that Bargnani has been able to play his preferred PF, but he’s lost a lot of his quickness and aggressiveness after putting on a lot of extra mass to play C.

Also, Bargnani remains unable to stay healthy, a possible side effect of the extra weight he’s carrying around, and years of losing/constant injuries can sap your sense of self-efficacy.

So while yes, his play and attitude of late has been terrible, he wasn’t as bad a pick as he seemed at the time, and things could have gone better for him in a different situation or if things were just a little different.

He remains relatively young, yet to hit his peak, and if he ends up somewhere that can keep him healthy (I’m looking at you Phoenix) and is given the right coaching, he might regain his place and confidence in the league. I’m definitely rooting for him, but he’s almost certainly worn out his welcome in Toronto, I for one was really disappointed he didn’t get traded for Boozer at the deadline, I thought both teams would have been winners in that scenario.

Let’s not act like his a total trash. Although I might not want him due to him being a 7 footer who only aveagers 5 boards in his carrer and his lack of motivation. But let’s not forgot he was a player who averaged 21 and a half points 3 years ago. He is in his 7th season and 27 so let’s not act like he is a 32 year old who has no value and just terriable.

I would also like to note how much his 3 point stroke has broken down in recent years. He hit his best form in 08-09 shooting .409% from the 3 point line. In recent years this has dropped to 0.372, 0.345, 0.296 and this year up but not a great number of .311

Eddy Curry put 20 ppg one season too. If you give almost any NBA player 15-20 shots a game they will put up 20. Doesn’t mean a thing.

Bargs is a waste of space and a team killer when he’s on the floor. A missed shot is the same as a turnover.

No rebounds, no assists, no steals, no blocks, low shooting #’s, volume shooter/chucker, poor work ethic, no handle, no driving ability, no lateral movement, cronically poor conditioning, sloppy man to man and team defense…. and the best stat of all is the Raps are almost always a negative in the +/- cat when he’s on the floor. I’m trying to come up with a single redeeming quality and I can’t think of any that aren’t a reach. (Edit** He’s a good FT shooter for a big guy… I only wish he could get to the line to take advantage of that.)

All this aside, I read Bargs didn’t even pick up a basketball when he was out earlier in the season with an elbow injury. Why not? Can’t dribble with the other hand? Can’t learn to shoot with one hand (or off hand if it was his shooting arm)? Can’t run? Can’t ride the bike? Couldn’t train at all? Absurd.

You may think I’m being hard on the guy after reading this post but he’s being paid 30k a day, 365 days a year to take his job seriously and he doesn’t. The fans work very hard at there own jobs so they can spend their cash to watch Bargs not put in the work. Its insulting to fans and its insulting to teammates. Bargs should be ashamed for not giving the effort on the court or in the gym to make himself the best he can be. Thats all anyone wants. If we see him put in the work then its ok to fail. No hard feelings. You did the best you could.

Bargs has coasted through his career and he deserves to be boo’d. I’m not happy he’s injured. I take no pleasure in someone else’s pain, but I’m ecstatic that he’s no longer on the court. Hopefully he’s gone this offseason… if not, only one more to go before his contract expires and he’s out of the league for good. No GM wants this guy.

As other posters have suggested, this is all on Colangelo… I have no idea how he’s kept his job as long as he has. He’s Babcock 2.0

He should not have been drafted # 1 overall in hindsight, in fact that move should have effectively ended Bryan Colangelo’s career as GM in Toronto because The Texas duo of Chris Bosh and TJ Ford wanted the Team/Coach/GM to take Lamarcus Aldridge # 1 overall, and to be honest I never understood why the Team didn’t, They eventually lost Chris Bosh to the Heat and the rest is pretty much history, The Team is destined to repeat history unless they make a move and Fire That Guy ASAP, sure he made a few good moves (Derezon, Davis, Ross and Valencunas) He also traded away a Lottery for Kyle Lowry and almost completely botched it, they could have stood pat and signed Brandon Jennings this summer, while they have turned it around somewhat and Gay and Lowry are friends and will develop better chemistry with their new team mates

Don’t blame Bargnani completely for being over paid and over valued in a “Weak” Draft Class, that was the Team’s GM that didn’t do his due diligence and pick the right guy(which was LA all day and night) and don’t blame Bargnani for taking the offer Bryan gave him, blame BC and Bargnani’s agent for coming up with the terms of that deal…

Bargnani needs to play to get his trade value back and I believe he has 3 years left on his contract at a fairly flat rate, so he would be an attractive asset to the right sort of team. One idea which came to mind was the Pacers if David West moves on or they decide to go younger, Bargs alongside Roy Hibbert would not need to worry about defence and his finesse game would mesh well with Hibbert’s power based game. Plus he’d be a size mismatched for some PF’s and the Pacers would have potential size mismatches at 3 to 5 with him, Hibbert and Paul George.

A lot could depend on this summer’s FA market, with the above mentioned David West, Al Jefferson, Andrew Bynum, Paul Millsap, Josh Smith, Tiago Splitter and co all going into FA so teams that either miss out on targets or need to replace departing players ( Utah obviously have Favours and Kanter) could come looking at the likes of Bargnani if he is on the block.

I still believe he would be ok coming off the bench for OKC for a bit scoring. They have Perk, Thabeet, Collison and Ibaka – none are great offensively. Maybe hanging out with these guys might teach Bargs a thing or two about defence and teamwork…
