sniperParticipantWhy do teams announce ahead of time that players are sitting out due to “rest”? Not only does this potentially lead to fines, as the Spurs and Raptors recently experienced, but it informs the opponent of exactly which players it will be facing, several hours before tipoff.
If a team wants to rest players, why don’t they just not play them? Give them a DNP-CD, in other words?1+ - Posted on: Thu, 04/22/2021 - 9:55am #1248354

OhCanada-ParticipantRaptors getting fined for resting players is ridiculous. They have no home building and fans go to the game to cheer for the other team more often than not. OG, Norm, Siakam all had covid and Siakam lost 15 pounds so yeah their conditioning is going to be bad. They played 4 games in 5 days and then got hit with the fine for resting Lowry a 35 year old hall of famer with tons of mileage and OG who had covid this year. Meanwhile OKC can sit out Horford the entire year.

sniperParticipantIt’s insane to fine teams for resting players in an ordinary year, because we know by now that rest results in better play, meaning a better product for the NBA. But this year it’s especially stupid, because a lot of players have had covid, and only their teams and their doctors know how well they are functioning, cardio-wise. Every team should be erring on the side of rest this year.
Also I’m glad someone else thinks Lowry is a HoFer.
