The Scare Crow RisesParticipantYou’re the Owner of the T’Wolves and you’ve found yourself in another cluster f$&* before the start of a 82 game season, the best player on the team wants to be traded and won’t get you the value you want back, the Head coach runs starters into the ground and the GM is dead set in adding old players that won’t help move you closer to the playoffs
The worst part is Your 2 Best Young prospects are being called out for not having the passion in takes to be Elite, Wiggins and Towns are talented players who may not have it in them to lead the Wolves to any relevancy
So let’s play a game of “How would you blow up the Timberwolves?”
1. Fire the Gm and Head Coach * Hire a New GM and Head Coach
2. Find a quick and reasonable trade for Jimmy Butler
3. Find a Trade partner to offload Wiggins and his contract to in a Deadline Deal
4. Find the Best Trade Package for KAT by the trade deadline
5. Pick a City to relocate the Franchise

mowestenParticipantI never really thought it would work with Thibs. Dude has a history of being hard to get along with, doesn’t like playing young guys and extends his starters. He’s a guy that is probably best with veteran guys, preferably a team of scrappy, tough guys.
Minnesota had a young core that wasn’t going to win a title with Thibs or without him. The play was to hire a good coach that would have allowed them some freedom and learn how to play. Keep the core together, in two or three years maybe they would have had something.
Instead the coach gets frustrated and starts purging the team of young guys and at this rate, they’ll be back to where they started when their best player was K Love.

220ParticipantIt’s a shame. I assumed when Thibbs was interviewed and he said he had studied what the best coaches did, I assumed it meant he learned from his prior mistakes and would be better for it. He’s been making seemingly all the same choices and mistakes in Minnesota that he did in Chicago. I do wonder if any of that was part of the reason Thibbs was an assistant coach for so long before a team gave him a chance at head coach.

BleedGreen808ParticipantThe disapointing part of Thibs time in Minnesota is that he still hasn’t learned to not run his starters into the ground with high minutes during the year. Glen Taylor made a big mistake giving Thibs control of personnel decisions. With Thibs resisting moving Butler now we could be looking at a situation where either Butler doesn’t show up or it will be incredible awkward during media day and training camp.
My solution would be for Glen Taylor to force Thibs to make the best trade possible for Butler to get him off the team. Who knows how Thibs would take that but maybe it wouldn’t be the worst thing to move on from him as well. Lastly ownership needs to meet with Wiggins and KAT as they aren’t without fault either. There is something to Butler’s criticism of those two not giving enough effort on defense (not sure how their day to day work ethic is). I think they would need to be challenged to become leaders of the team with Butler gone.

zolaParticipantClippers get Jimmy Butler
Suns get Patrick Beverley
Wolves get Avery Bradley, Jerome Robinson and Dragan Bender
Other things remain the same till the next season. Give them all one more chance

HitsterParticipantIt was such a pity that Flip Saunders died at such a young age. Him running the front office and Thibs as coach would have been the ideal combination.
I don’t see T-Wolves wanting to blow it up after just returning to the play offs but next summer Butler, and Gibson are FAs and Teague would be going into his last year if he opts in so they will have a chance to change direction if they wanted.

Andv1 WaitingParticipantThibs was essentially put in a win now or your fired situation which was very very hard for anyone.
First season they improved their win record.
2nd season they made the playoffs the first time in 14 years..The issue with the T-wolves overall is this though: They lack focus(see games when Towns and Wiggins don’t Sh*t or get out played by inferior talent) take away butler and they looked so lost/average without him which was the fustruting part..
and to be fair most teams with the odd exception run an 8-9 man rotation for most of the season(with exceptions to blowouts when full rosters used). Personally I would pay Butler what he had wanted but I guess the owner may have interfered if that is the primary cause…Especially after Wiggins unperformed his contract…
Anyhow onto the main questions
1) I would get a better GM But keep Thibs as Coach/Basketball ops as lets be honest their isn’t really any other Brad stevens out there right now and bring in Sean Marks and the Nets scouting department as their draft record is looking alright with their lower picks which is what the T-wolves would have if they keep winning.
2) Personally I would hold off until just before the deadline and see if I could repair things if not by then I would trade him to one of 4 teams : Nets for Russell(to appease towns),Faried(vet Thibs may like)this years pick and demar carol(expiring deal),Orlando Gordon,Fournier + a pick(top 5 protected),Dallas Harrison Barnes + a pick for Butler who may sign there due to D.J..Finally The suns Josh Jackson,Bender TJ warren and something else like a pick or two for Butler and someone like Tyus..
3)Lets say I can convince Butler to stay then I try move Wiggins(as you would have to keep one as an asset), this is kind of hard due to such an average deal but if I kept Butler I would try move Wiggins to the clippers for Avery bradley and Tobias harris and maybe a pick top 5 protected..This works for both sides: Clippers get a young semi star in Wiggins who is locked up and gets coached by Doc who coached T-mac Wiggins apparent ceiling. T-wolves fill many needs Tobias could play PF,Butler moves to SF and Avery starts at the SG spot giving Thibs a nice defensively capable team.
4)If Butler is kept like mentioned in 3) I would do the following: Sign and Trade for A.D and maybe a pick due to a lesser injury history. Works for both sides Pelicans hit full rebuild around KAT instead of this trash they keep doing THIBS gets his Vet in A.D to pair with Butler if Kept and deal happens in 3) if no Wiggins and Butler Trade then you have a stariting line up of A.D,Taj,Wiggins,Butler and Teague which would be the best teams A.D has ever played with lol…
5) wouldn’t personally but if I was forced(i.e New owner says see you later like NETs did to N.J) then probably Seattle would be the most likely to cope with it due to having had Supersonics previously..

TravelinTravParticipantIt’s tough, on one hand you have the Flip Saunders guys and in the other hand you have Thibs guys. I don’t know why everyone thinks the Wolves need rebuilding, they were in 3rd in the west until Butler got injured behind only the Rockets and Warriors. I don’t know why everyone thinks their lost as a team or under achieving.
Obviously I have no clue what really happened when butler and Thibs met last week about the trade but I would keep he team intact and hope for the best, or wait closer to the trade deadline. Either way I don’t see anyone bearing he warriors.

Dazzling Dunks and Basketball BloopersParticipantI definitely don’t see this team as needing to be blown up. They still have 2 young franchise cornerstones in place that most teams would love to have. They tried to accelerate the rebuilding process by bringing in an established coach and trading for a star in his prime. It didn’t really work out. But the situation is far from dire here.
The first thing that needs to happen (before anything is done with butler) is thibs needs to go. He at least needs to be stripped of his gm duties as he is not cut out for that role imo. I honestly don’t think he is the coach for this team either, and I believe the league has sort of passed him by. If your going to trade butler (which is inevitable at this point) I don’t want thibs making the deal. Look to bring in a coach and gm that will see things more big picture. Once you get the thibs situation squared away, you look for the best deal possible for butler, hopefully bringing back some young assets and established veterans who will keep you competitive. I don’t think you really need to worry about his preferred destinations, just find the best deal. Than you lock up towns to his extension (an absolute no brainer) and you build the team around towns and Wiggins (which was initially the plan all along if I’m not mistaken). Maybe the plan doesn’t work and they don’t live up to expectations, but I at least think you have to give it a chance. I don’t really see many favorable alternatives.

HitsterParticipantThibs brought in Gibson, Rose and Butler – guys he has worked with before. The experienced Jeff Teague also came in. If Butler is adamant he wants out then get something for him as it’s better than him walking for nothing.
I agree that a new GM needs to be brought in who can take on that side of Thibs workload. He need not be put in over Thibs – at the Spurs Gregg Poppovich is still effectively over Ric Burford but he delegates the FO to Ric. I’d look for a young bright FO guy maybe someone from under Danny Ainge at Boston.
If they do want a fire sale then there is only one man – Sam Hinkie!

goddagParticipantFire Thibs now!
Bring in an upcoming GM.
Trade Butler to the highest bidder, quickly, otherwise the lockeroom will be a cancer.
Turn coaching duties over to Ryan Saunders, Flip’s kid. He’s following his dad’s foot steps, and knows how to handle players. Enough to know you can’t run them all those minutes and still play well. He also wouldn’t be standing on the sideline howlering at the top of his lungs the whole game. Plus he knows the direction his dad was going to make this team a contender. And it wasn’t by bringing in all these old Bull players!

OhCanada-ParticipantNah. Trade Butler to the highest bidder immediately as his value will only continue to drop from here and see what youve got with Wiggins and Towns. Then re-evaluate.

HeroescantdieParticipantBut to me, Towns is tehir best player not butler, his young, his dominant on the boars, can score inside and out, you can’t trade that with that potential, he should improive his defense though, looking back, I think they shouldn’t hire Thibs since their players are young, they shouldve hired a coach that can thrives with young players around him and make them better much like monty did with AD before or any other coach. but not like hoiberg who does not make his players acountable at all times.the butler trade now will haunt them, since lavine and dunn could be a core player since they are young like wiggins and towns, they can grow together.

PurpleMonkeyDishwasherParticipantI say keep it simple and send Butler to Portland for CJ McCollum. The Blazers have talked about splitting up their back court for quite a while now. Portland may say no but it is a fair trade for Portland. With the wolves having Butler’s bird rights I’d dare him to leave next year for $50 million less knowing he will be too old to recoup it when his 4th year is done.

HitsterParticipantGood point by Purple Monkey above – Butler’s bird rights are valuable and he’d be leaving a lot of money on the table if he bolts via FA,
