I see that Leonard drew comparisons to Gerald Wallace. I don’t see that at all. He seems more like a PF stuck in a G/SF body. I more so see an odd mix of Udonis Haslem and Landry Fields in that he can’t shoot the three inconsistently and he seems to have Haslem’s body composition and effort. Who is the best comparisons?

    icewater,

oh man, that sounds too close to Demarre Carroll for comfort.  A guy who hustles, solid defensively, good size for a three, can play inside some, not a great athlete but a good all-around player sounds like Shane Battier a little bit.  Shane gave you 10-12 points (14 points his rookie year) and probably around 5 or 6 rebounds a game in his prime.  Maybe bump that up to 14-15 points and 7 rebounds or so for Leonard’s prime.  Not bad, but you have to know what you are getting.  Sounds good for the Wizards or the Kings.

Leonard reminds me of a Darrell Arthur type player with a better perimeter game and less inside scoring.  At worse i fear he will become another Julian Wright.  At best possibly a Ronnie Brewer type swingman who can’t shoot but will do everything else.

Leonard is hard to compare.  I do see some Gerald Wallace in him for the fact that he does not excel at any one skill but is a serviceble guy to have on your team.  He is surprisingly unathletic and lacks that explosiveness.  He is however a much better ball handler that Wallace or Haslim.

His shot is still a work in progress… I don’t care how many shots he can make during so called workouts with no one guarding him.  I think Haslim and Fields is not a bad comparison.  I see a bit of Cedric Ceballos in him as well for the fact that he could probably score a bunch of garbage points without ever having a play ran for him.

He’s sort of a new kind of player to me, he seems original, I see the Demare Carroll in him a bit.

Isnt that what Gerald Wallace is though? a PF stuck in a SG/SF Body?

Leonard isn’t a PF stuck in a SF body. The kid can just do most things that both positions require. He has impressive handles for a 6’7" player–was the #2 ball handler on his team last year. His shot is not bad at all–above average inside the arc–and he’s improving it.  He’s not like Brewer, who has a physical glitch that will cause him to always be a sub-par shooter.  His shot will develop. His major downfall is that he lacks elite hops (32" vert), but he knows how to use all 7’3" of his body. According to kids at SDSU, he’d go everywhere with a ball & would spend absurd quantities of time in the gym. This kid will work to improve his hops, strength and shot. When you watch him play it’s clear the kid is simply a basketball player.  He’s going to have a very good career as a highly versatile 3 in the NBA.

BTW, Leonard destroyed Jordan Hamilton in their Wizard’s drill last week.
