Buccaneers Bench Leftwich
So much for the Byron Leftwich era in Tampa. It’s already over.NFC South blog
ESPN.com’s Pat Yasinskas writes about all things NFC South in his division blog.• Blog network: NFL Nation
The Buccaneers will start start second-year pro Josh Johnson on Sunday at Washington. Rookie Josh Freeman will move up to No. 2 on the depth chart and Leftwich will be the third quarterback.
Coach Raheem Morris announced the move Monday, a day after the Bucs fell to 0-3 while gaining just 86 yards total offense in a 24-0 loss to the New York Giants. Leftwich completed 7 of 16 passes for 22 yards and one interception.
Morris said he was not blaming the loss on Leftwich, but feels Johnson has earned a chance to start against the Redskins.
Leftwich was replaced in the fourth quarter after going just 7-of-16 for 22 yards and one interception. Johnson played one fourth-quarter series, completing 4 of 10 passes for 36 yards and leading a drive that stalled on downs at New York’s 5-yard line. He also finished as Tampa Bay’s leading rusher, scrambling for a 15-yard gain on his only attempt, but the Bucs couldn’t avoid being shut out for the first time since losing their 2006 season opener 27-0 to Baltimore.
Tampa Bay has lost seven straight dating to an 0-4 December that cost it a playoff berth last season.
i told you birdzilla. leftwich was going to get bench eventually.

kaceyParticipantYeah right, when your team is behind, you will have to throw the ball to catch up. The Bucs are looking at an 0-16 season.

McWinningParticipantwell its nor his fault that team has a horrible defense no receivers and he played a great defense that dominated Romo. he will be back. he threw 275+ both of the first two games tough matchup he might not come back right away but hes best suited to run a passing style a lot more than Johnson Morris obviously doesn’t have any patience at all he a horrible coach hes already turned a good team in to the worst team in the nfl hes dragging them even further back their even worse than the Rams.

thetruthParticipantleftwich aint getting his job back. Johnson will take over for a few games, and then freeman will take over from then. even if leftwich did okay. hes 28 yrs old. and the bucs are preparing for the future. mind as well throw in the rookie and his future backup in their since they aint going no where.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 09/28/2009 - 10:50am #217116
McWinningParticipantdude trust me Johnson will get eaten up this is the worst offensive line in the league and they have maybe the worst recievers and they cant get a running game at least until Bryant comes back fully healthy you cant blame him he might not come back but they wont gain anything and if they do bring freeman in he could be the next David Carr ruined by a crappy offensive line and having no options.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 09/28/2009 - 11:00am #217123

thetruthParticipantjohnson and freeman have to learn the game anyway by playing. leftwich would be better suited on a contender team as a backup. and the bucs are in a rebuilding mode. which means they ae going to have ups and downs.

McWinningParticipantyeah that was what he was last year he would have taken Big Bens spot as the starter when in week thee against the Eagles ben had about 3 or 4 turnovers and 8 sacks and then Leftwich came in the game and led them on drive at the ed of the game it was like last week except Ben wasn’t benched because he was a big name quarterback and Leftwichs stats were better up to week three than Roethlisbergers were actually he was a beast as a backup and left Pittsburgh because they couldn’t have two starting quarterbacks s maybe but he proved himself as a good quarterback last year when in a half when ben was out he threw a touchdown and had about 200 yards so he could play backup and he would be really good one if he didnt have bad receivers no running game and horrible offensive line he does now.

thetruthParticipantbirdzilla. why you keep defending him. you might as well drop him and pick up josh johnson. lol the bucs suck man . and antonio bryant too.cut him too
0 - Posted on: Mon, 09/28/2009 - 12:51pm #217173
McWinningParticipantyour crazy he no way i cut Bryant their gonna throw a lot because their line is so crappy and they cant run and him and their tight ends are their only options no way im cutting him he will be a backup for now but could start later. for me.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 09/28/2009 - 1:01pm #217177

thetruthParticipantbryant is a fitzgerald or andre johnson. you can drop him and get another player who can do the same thing he did if not better.

yrowoaooaoaParticipantPut simply, this latest iteration of Charlotte Bobcats isn’t anywhere near as brutally bad as last year’s batch, which is why it’s all but certain they’ll get back into double-digit wins this season. In fact, it’s not inconceivable to imagine them winning 30 games, which would more than triple last season’s winning percentage.
