I’ve wondered this for a while why is it harder for left handed players to
Develop a right hand as strong as their left. Many right hand players go left
better or equally good to both hands. However with left hand players you almost
always want to force them right, and they’ll do everything in the power to get
back left. This goes even for elite guys like Harden or prime Manu. Just about
every lefty I can think off goes left at a much higher clip then they go right.
Harden, Manu, Jennings , Josh Smith, Odom. Look at Randle at UK he’s already
been scouted as all left but he still finishes almost solely with his left hand,
James young is the same way. Zack Randolph right block so he can spin middle
using his left hand. I haven’t watched enough Greg Monroe to see how left hand
dominant he is. Shout out to Detroit for starting 3 lefties btw.  So after that
long rant does anybody have a theory as to why left hand players don’t develop
right hands as good as righties develop left?

Just a complete guess here,  but in scouting reports,  lefties are often said to have an advantage bc of that. If that’s true,  I guess growing up they used that strength to their advantage and never really needed to develop a right hand. Just a complete guess though.

       That is the reason.

Coming from a left handed person and from a little research because I asked myself this. Lefties tend to depend on their left hand more in general than right handed people tend to. A left handed person will eat, brush their teeth, hold on to a rail, swing a punch exclusively left handed most the time. Right handed people for whatever reason seem to not always depend on their right hand in general life situations. I guess that is just the way it is

Side not: You have a few players who are lefties but shoot righty and drive righty. Lebron off the top of my head is one person like that. There are a few others in the league like that.

Carlos Boozer is said to be a player like that who shoots righty but drives/ finishes lefty. With Lebron and Boozer im not convinced they grew up favoring finishing left handed I believe that after so much time working on their left hands it became more natrual to finish going left because of the amount of work they put in.

Always loved his jumpshot, but always noticed he very rarely drove to his right.  Well, to be fair, he did not drive that much anyway.  But point being that he was very left dominate.  Have no clue as to answer the original question as to why the left dominate folks are  the way they are.

I just always think the lefties look smooth for some reason.  Think Sam Perkins.

I know one thing for sure, Brandon Jennings is all left, he literally doesn’t have a right hand, they even had an article on it a while back, and dude still can’t be checked, just goes to show how good these guys are.

Same with Lamar Odom. I don’t think have ever seen go right. Jennings not being able to use his right is likely why he isn’t a good PG, since that is position that need good handle courts the most.

The one anomaly is Mike Conley. He finishes unbelievably well with both hands. He hits super challenging shots with his off hand; its impressive

David Lee is great with both hands, not driving probably, he doesn’t really drive that much, but he shoots with both hands really well.

It is kinda funny, because you would think it would be the opposite, given that most things are designed for right handed people, thus giving lefties a little more practice with their off hand.  Maybe because players are used to defending right handed players, lefties can get away with relying more on their strong hand because their defenders don’t work as hard to take away their strong hand.  That is just a guess, though.

If I stand correct, the Memphis Grizzlies had the most in NBA history on a roster last season.

Mike Conley, Zach Randolph, Tayshaun Prince, Ed Davis & Tony Wroten

I would semi-classify John Wall as a lefty as well.

I was about to say the same thing.  I think Wall is ambi or right handed for sure but finishes almost exclusively with his left.

Larry Bird is right handed, but in some games he would only use his left hand in the game to challenge and entertain himself.
