Dude is absolutely destroying his trade value.  This is now his second offense and the rep gets bigger that he is a knucklehead.  Gotta feel bad for Denver as they will now have to unload him for cents on the dollar.  With that being said they should have made a move right after drafting Mudiay.  Giving Lawson a whole summer to screw up and run his mouth was a mistake.

I live in Denver and was listening to the local radio about this earlier today.   This time last year they could have gotten a good haul for Ty but now he’s damaged goods and they would have to give him away for nothing.  So do the Nuggets get rid of him for nothing or hang on to someone who is imploding and hope that he can turn himself around?  If I am the Nuggets I dump him because he is already a bad influence on Faried and Mudiay sure doesn’t need to be around that kind of role model. This team is rebuilding and the season is going to be tough enough as it is without this distraction.

I have to say I had no idea Lawson was an issue until last year’s DUI.  I believe he was driving at 3am with a game the next day.  That was a big sign to me that he might not be focused on basketball.  Somebody said yesterday that Billups said that Lawson showed up late for practices and was a poor leader.  What I don’t understand is if that true why did the Nuggets not suspend him for being late?

This second DUI comes at a bad time when the team would be looking to trade him.  This will makes teams less likely to give assets up to get Lawson and give teams leverage in those trade talks.

It’s because he can injure or kill somebody.  Not to mention he’s a pro athlete that Denver has invested millions of dollars in.  If he gets hurt or faces jail time he’s letting the team down and affecting their brand.  It’s not a mature or wise decision to be driving drunk.

I’m just saying driving drunk is a victimless crime when no one is injured. Denver’s contract with him is voluntary.

My point is he’s putting people at risk including himself.  I understand nobody was hurt but it doesn’t mean it’s not a possibility.  Denver’s contract is voluntary but the money is guaranteed.  He’s a professional and should act like one.  If he wanted to drink take a cab home or have somebody sober drive.

My understanding is if Lawson breeches the terms of agreement the contract is not binding. Denver would keep the money.

Not every DUI case is the same.

Ty let everyone going to his basketball camp that he wouldn’t be there because of travel problems…this was one day before his DUI.  He needs to find a mentor to get him straightened out.

Hes just lucky he didn’t injure or kill himself or someone else. When this happens once it’s a mistake but somewhat forgiveable offense. When it happens a second time (within the span of 6 months no less) it signifies a definite problem. If he wants to sabotage his own career that’s one thing, but to put other people’s lives in jeapordy with his recklessness is completely unacceptable.

The league needs to come down hard on this imo. I would say a 30 game suspension without pay is warranted and he should not be allowed to play again until he completes mandatory alcohol rehabilitation treatment and demonstrates remorse for his actions and a change in his behavior. Forget about his career or his trade value for the moment. The dude needs to get his life in order.
