joe2324ParticipantWho do you think compares best to Larry Bird in today’s NBA? This would have to be someone with high intensity, plays hard on both ends of the court, can shoot from anywhere with high FG%, high FT% an leads his team in almost every category except assists. Also please don’t say Kevin Love because he’s white. Kevin Love and Bird are about as similar as Stud Webb and Wilt Chamberlin.
How about Klay or Kwai Leondard

Arc12345ParticipantPaul George is the only one that comes to mind off the top of my head and even that seems like a stretch.
Plays hard on both ends, lots of intensity, and shoots it pretty well from all over including the free throw line. His jumper is really pure and has sort of a unique form. Just as Bird had a unique form. He’s obviously way more athletic, and probably came close to leading the pacers in everything except assists.
This is a real tough one, and speaks to the uniqueness of Larry. Can’t really think of anyone like Magic, Barkley, or other super unique players.
Anyone got someone else in mind?

flybobbyflyParticipantNobody, Dirk on Offense, Draymond on Defense.
The only player that even impacts the game on both sides of that ball at the same level is Lebron.
Nobody has both a similar style of play and impact as Bird.

holefillers1ParticipantAgreed, no one man can compare. Honestly Steph Curry has the same touch around the rim and super quick release. They both play like they are a full move ahead of everyone else. Steph’s stats and obviously his position doesn’t line up. But the way they dominate is similar to me. My. Multi player comp is a Paul Pierce/Dirk Nowitzki combo.

cabbycabParticipantnobody, but Dirk is closest. Tall with automatic jumper which is nearly impossiby to block. both offensive prodigies.
Bird is light years ahead as far as passing, but both are clutch.

circumlocution75ParticipantLegend in today’s game ——– Please Hear me out & read the stats below & remember I Despised Bird as a kid but I think you will agree —–
Bird Avg 10 rebounds per game ——- he was an Incredible passer both on the fast break & in 1/2 court —- he was a Ferocious competitor
An Incredible Leader — a Total Alpha Dog —— He Wanted that last shot
Bird finshed 4th in MVP his Rookie year! —- behind winner Kareem, Dr. J & George Ice Man Gervin
From 1979/80" Bird’s Rookie Year thry 1987/88′ —- Bird had an Insane 9 season strecth where he Averaged 25 pts; 10 reb 6 ast; 50% FG% (38% from 3 range)
He won 3 MVP’s & Finished 2nd! EVERY other YEAR but 1 & in that year (86′) he finished 3rd!
In that 8 year stretch After his Rookie season 4th place MVP Vote —– ONLY 4 men stood betwenn Bird & Winning 8 consecutive League MVP Awards:
Dr. J; Moses Malone; Magic Johnson & Michael Jordan!!!!! —– that’s It! In those 9 years between Bird’s Rookie year at 23 years old & 31 years old
the Celtics won between 56 & 67 games EVERY year — but NEVER less than 56 games & Averaged 61 wins! over a Decade!
Bird led the Celtic’s to 3 Championships & 5 Finals appearances in that 9 year stretch but in 8 of the 9 years they made it At least to the Conference Finals & Bird & his C’s were ONLY beated in thos 3 Conf Finals & Two NBA Finals by THREE All Time Great teams:
The Sixers, the Lakers & the Pistons ——- & Bird Led the Celtics to these Insane heights BEFORE Expansion —— Sorry to use So many caps & exclamation points but even I was SHOCKED by how Consistently Great Bird was during the 80’s.
the Only Man who can compare to that Level of Sustained Excellence today is Lebron James — I’m not saying Bird is better but when you look at the #’s Lebron’s name is the Only player of today who performs on That level for That length of Time

mowestenParticipantLarry was a really unique player, there isn’t anyone in today’s game like him. There might be some guys who are better, but there isn’t anyone like him.
LeBron has some similar numbers, and is a similar passer, but they score in totally different ways. Larry was a better defender than most give him credit for, to me his defensive abilities were similar to Ricky Rubio, really smart and made plays at that end despite his limitations.
Lebron is a great defensive player and more versatile, but Larry was a superior rebounder, which, when you think about it is insane.
