ChicagoCaseyParticipantAccording to Yahoo the LA Clippers and the Hornets are in discussions about a trade centered around Lance Stevenson for Matt Barnes and Spencer Hawes.
I actually like that trade for the Clippers. Lance Stevenson is not on a huge deal, there aren’t alot of quality small forwards out there in the free agency market, and they have have to play Matt Barnes.

TRC1991ParticipantNice trade, Hawes wasn’t working out in LA and Lance wasn’t working out in Charlotte – a change of scenery can often pay dividends

Reptilian MonkParticipantWonder how Lance will get along with the fiesty attitude of Chris Paul. Could turn out great but chemistry will definitely be an issue, hope it works out for them.

HitsterParticipantIt’s been rumoured that Doc Rivers wants Lance to be his main ball handler when CP3 isn’t on court. A lot of Lance’s effectiveness at the Pacers was lost at Charlotte as Kemba is their main ball handler.
Hawes and Barnes gives Charlotte a couple of good veterans so the deal works well for both teams IMO.

wonzi_bellsParticipantI guess it’s kind of okay since Spencer Hawes’ contract ends in 2018 and Stephenson has a team option on his last year in 2017, so it essentially makes him an expiring deal for next year.
It still doesn’t solve anything to me. He’s only okay, at best, on defense and shooting threes. I guess he could be used as a primary ball-handler when Paul is on the bench but isn’t that what Crawford does and is frankly better at it. That contract does give them some flexibility though.

SmooveKRYPTParticipantI think it’s a sign they might buy out or move Crawford. He’s only partially guaranteed and didn’t shoot the ball particularly great this past year. Lance is a better defender and playmaker for others. They’re gonna still need to add a quality SF with more size and 3pt shooting ability. Every dollar counts with their cap situation…they’ll probably rely on vet minimum guys to fill out the roster again.

Winning_TimeParticipantIf you’re a clippers fan, I’m gonna warn you Lance can’t shoot threes. In fact, he set records for how poorly he shot the three this year

ExumInfernoParticipant6-4 Redick, 6-4 Rivers, 6-5 Crawford, 6-5 Stephenson, with Barnes gone some of these players would have to get a lot of small forward minutes. It would be different, not sure how effective it would be.
On offense the Clipper would spread the floor which is what they need with Griffin in the post, but on defense they would have a small player on Durant and other taller small forwards.
The Hornets get rid of someone they didn’t want, and Hawes can either hit outside shots and spread the floor for the returning Al Jefferson or maybe the Hornets could trade him to another team.
The trade gives NBA fans something on a day when the finals are not playing, so that is good.
It would seem that each team is happy to have moved out someone who didn’t fit, so maybe it is win-win there. For the money, neither team was going to have money to spend so the trade probably doesn’t impact there. Although if the Clippers don’t keep Jordan, having Hawes around to play center might have been useful.

220ParticipantSize was the first thing that came to mind for me as well since as you mentioned their main wing players are all 6’5" or shorter. I’m not sure what the Clippers can do to pick up a good small forward with limited cap space and no picks in the upcoming draft.
On its own I don’t like this trade for the Clippers because Barnes has been solid and Hawes could’ve bounced back from his rough year. What I see is a team lacking depth traded two players likely to be in the rotation for one player who might not even fit in that well. I look forward to seeing the rest of Doc’s plan.

Coby45ParticipantAs a Hornets fan (stop laughing) I’m glad Lance is gone but I would have been happer with someone that could help our team. I’m guessing Barnes is gone to save 3.5 mil so were left with a shooting big thats an average rebounded and cant block many shots………… "Hi young Cody meet old Cody Zeller".
For Doc I’m guessing that the Truth must be on his way or something cause an undersized SF in the west is a nightmare waiting to happen!

Malik-UniversalParticipantthe hornets really had nothing to lose.. didnt get much in return which isn’t shocking since lance had an awful yr for the hornets.. hes such a wildcard.. when hes on hes one of my favorite players in the league… but u just dont know which lance ur gnna get at times.. if he comes up like lance from 2014 with indiana im sure the clippers can finally get to a WCF.. still reluctant to peg them as championship caliber with their bench

TyroberParticipantOne of the rare occasions where I feel like both teams won the trade. Has good potential to be a very solid move for both teams.

Lotto StudParticipantBelieve it or not but with Lance Stephenson coming onboard, this will be a great move for both; he and Austin Rivers in the near-future if Rivers comes back. Stephenson takes away a lot of unwarranted attention to Rivers as a primary ball-handler.
