I watched him exclusively for the first time today against Notre Dame, and his passing ability really stood out. Along with his ball handling and decision making with the ball in his hands. He took and missed his share of shots, and I couldn’t really gauge his athleticism. What do you think/know about him?

This mock has him ranked at 53, I think.

He’s averaging 17, 4, and 4 this year, while shooting 45% from the field and 40% from 3. He’s 6’5 225 according to ESPN. He’s gonna be 23 in August, which is working against him.

He looks like a solid player from what I’m seeing though. What am I missing? Is it just his age that’s got him going so low?

It has a lot to do with his age in my opinion and possibly the fact that he is somewhat under the radar at Pitt which isn’t a school known for churning out NBA players. From an explosiveness and lateral movement standpoint he might be a little below average for an NBA player but he is a guy that gets it done.

His game isn’t really fit to be a #1 scoring option but surprisingly he has been crazy efficent in that role this year. I would take a chance on him early in the 2nd round because he has the look of an NBA rotation player in my mind. He isn’t spectacular in any area but he is good in all areas. I saw his brother Perry play a couple games in High School before he went to play QB at Syracuse and he has the same kind of game. He was shifty, strong and a great passer..Lamar has a better outside shot and is right handed but other than that they were very similar.

I think one question about Lamar could be his range. He is shooting over 40% from 3 but I don’t know if scouts think that will translate with the deeper 3 point line. I really like him as a player but I could understand why he isn’t getting any 1st round love because there are really a lot of similar prospects out there.

Markel Brown, CJ Wilcox- Better athletes

    Jabari Brown- Better scorer

PJ Hairston, Nik Stauskas- Better shooters

That is 5 borderline 1st/early 2nd picks at SG I would take over him…and I am a fan of his game.

A completely fair and agreeable assessment. Basically what I was looking for. Thanks.

I started watching the game yesterday, and he made a couple plays/passes that made me go "damn", so I figured I’d inquire about him here.

His athleticism definitely looked a bit below par for an NBA wing. He didn’t elevate much on the attacks I saw from him. That was just from a small sample size though.

He also just looked so in control and poised. Even in some of his more erratic drives, he looked deliberate, if that makes sense. Like, he had something there, he saw the opening, but just ended up a tad bit wild.

I also looked at some of his games against tougher comptetition and they were all over the place, as far as shooting goes. His consistency could use some work.

He oughta be able to contribute in some form or fashion in the NBA. I’m not a fan of comparisons, but he has the playmaking ability of a Lance Stephenson in my eyes. Patterson can drop some dimes.

He does have a little bit of a Lance Stephenson type game but he’s not nearly as quick off the bounce or as good attacking the basket. Stephenson is probably one of the top 5 or 10 wing players in the game at attacking the basket right now. I don’t see Patterson ever reaching his level because he isn’t on the same level as Lance athletically but they do play a similar style for sure.
