valentineAccording to Stephen A. Smith, the Lakers are a strong chance of getting Russ and KD in consecutive years.
That would mean a potential roster featuring:
D’Angelo Russell
Russell Westbrook
Kevin Durant
Ben Simmons
Julius Randle
Jordan Clarkson
I’m not actually a Lakers fan…just what I read on hoopshype.

Meditated StatesParticipantNot enough shots for that roster either. Everyone needs the ball and shots.

HitsterParticipantI saw this article, my first thought would be it may be hype but it is an interesting option. The Lakers would need to put together a better supporting cast than KD and Westbrook have at the Thunder to convince them to go there.
If the Lakers did land Simmons then it might be interesting to see if they can land a top FA.
KD and Westbrook have played in tandem for 7/8 years so can share the ball but how would Simmons, Russell etc fit into it I wonder.
Randle would probably play C and he’d get some shots, they might even look to retain Big Roy Hibbert and just use him on defence or for specific match ups.
The Lakers will make a play for KD so it will be interesting to see how it pans out.
Would KD perhaps be offered a say in who the coach would be as Byron Scott may be moved on or perhaps into a front office role.

Sewok15ParticipantThe Lakers thought they had a good chance of landing Aldridge but he went to play for a team that actually had a good coach. I don’t see Russ and KD going to LA in their primes to play with a bunch of guys who will take time to develop. If they leave they are going to go to a more conducive situation towards winning a title.

Magic JordanParticipantIf the FO was smart, which I am not quite sure they are anymore… at least the one with the final say. They would obviously scrap B Scott in the off season (this should happen anyways). Swoop Walton as the head coach and over pay Scott Brooks as lead assistant. This would at worst case, put a guy on their staff who you know can develop players.
I won’t speculate on the Durant Westbrook to the Lakers thing because it’s not going to happen. I will say that I am probably in the minority in thinking that we won’t see the best from Durant, which is crazy to say considering how good he is, until he is playing with a true PG. Someone who can get him easy baskets. Westbrook setting Durant up consists of Westbrook getting him the ball early in the shot clock and letting Durant go iso.
So seeing them go somewhere together would be a bit odd. But they do have a close relationship I suppose so.

XYRYXParticipant10 dimes per game should really not be called a not pass first point guard. This is only 2nd to Rondo and last time I checked the highly praised and to my joy highly respected John Wall and Kyle Lowrys in the league don’t catch up with this.
Honestly who else is better? CP3? You have to be kind of crazy to pick Paul over Russ at this point of their careers. And Curry for example for sure has a phenom with Green who is averaging like 15/10/7.3 which is insane but Curry for sure isn’t less of a shoot first point guards. I don’t understand the double standard on this Westbrook critic anymore.

Magic JordanParticipantValid points. Westbrook is the 2nd best PG in the game. Yes he stacks assists. I don’t consider what I said a criticism of him. He is great with the ball in his hands, he creates for others. But its not like he gets Durant easy shots. I mean anybody who watches OKC regularly can see this. Westbrook dominates the ball, which is he great at doing. But I still am of the belief that he holds Durant back a little by doing so.
Of course the argument can be made that there is no proof that more Durant and less Russ would result in positive gains. I was simply saying I would like to see KD free from the Westbrook bottleneck.

MopgrassParticipantL.A. nearly has a blank sleight financially and in a big market. That’d be the only draw I could see for Durant. He could grab some free agent friends (I dunno… DeRozan, Whiteside, whoever) and bring them to L.A. They have assets from Russell to a top 3 pick that they can trade away (like Cleveland traded Wiggins for Love).
Point being, it could be Durant calling shots on team moves in a big market. I don’t see it happening because that sounds like a lot of work, but it’s the only way I see him going to LA.

Hype MachineI read an intersting article on Yahoo Sports about how Sneaker deals work…and both KD and Westbrook fall in the "signature shoe" category….
These guys get paid huge amounts based on the market they play in and get a % of shoe sales… so going to the Lakers could be worth an extra $100mil for a guy like KD if he’s winning MVPs and scoring titles etc.
