Credit to Bill Simmons who came up with it. I really thought this trade was kinda interesting, even though it probably would never happen…
Lakers get Dwight and Arenas; Magic get Gasol and Bynum. Obviously LA gets their post guy and Fisher replacement while Orlando gets a frontline to make up for Dwight leaving.
If I understand correctly, the new CBA talks may involve an amnesty clause where teams can designate one player who still has to be paid but whose contract wont count against the team’s salary cap. This means that LA can pretty much keep Arenas without hurting their salary cap… LA also gets to avoid having to pay out the rear to keep both Pau and Bynum. Meanwhile, Orlando gets to dump Arenas’s salary in the process…
