NCarmean18ParticipantI could honestly see Metta World Peace retiring from the game. His production has dwindled drastically, and he isn’t much of an option offensively. However, he is still a great defender and would be a good guy in the locker room.
I would love to see the Miami Heat make a run at him. He will make the money that he was owed from his contract with L.A., thus allowing him to accept a less lucrative offer, but having the chance to be a key reserve for the two-time defending NBA champions, the Miami Heat.

Sewok15ParticipantI can’t see him in Miami considering they are already loaded on the wing. If he could play center then yes they would have interest but when they already have Battier, Miller, James Jones and Rashard Lewis under contract. All of those guys are better shooters then Metta and while he may be better defensively than those guys he wouldn’t bring much to Miami they don’t already have.
I could see him in Brooklynn because they are in need of some veteran depth off the bench. I don’t know how well he would get a long with Pierce and Garnett but from a pure basketball standpoint it would make sense.

CavsFan07ParticipantDon’t mean to be a homer, but if this is true I do believe the Cavs will look into it.
Why?
They’re below the cap, so they can bid on the amnesty waiver. Also, the only SF on the roster is Alonzo Gee and then attempting to put Bennett/Clark into the SF position as well.
Not saying they’ll go overboard after him, but there is a hole at SF and he would be off contract at the end of the season so the Cavs would maintain cap flexibility for next summer.

GlenTaylorSucksParticipantPlease go after him! We DESPERATELY need wing D. Even though he is most certainly not the Ron Artest of old, he’s still effective enough on D, and he’d fit well w/Adelman’s system!

BasketBalAllanParticipantYou have to remember that Metta has very little choice in where he goes unless he tries to retire and come back. He will be bid on, and go to the highest, amoungst teams under the salary cap. The Kings and Cavs could be in the running as both need a SF and anyone else under cap looking for a defensive forward.

rabidsnowmanParticipantThe Lakers save about 30 million dollars in 2014 after luxury tax is factored in by amnestying MWP.

mitztazohtaParticipantVets minimum to return to the state of NY?!? Rememeber, Lakers still have to pay dude so it’s not look he’s pinching pennies. My Lakers in the struggle. We need athletism off the bench specifically at the PG spot and on the wing so we sign Kaman?!? Bad look ….

llperezWonder who the lakers are pick up to play sf. Last I checked devin ebanks is the only sf on the roster now and he sucks if he is even still in the team. If they still have some exception money to spend, every decent sf still available might want to consider taking a one year offer for cheap with la cause the minutes are there. I also imagine Kobe will play more sf then ever before.

mitztazohtaParticipantI don’t understand something: how do you cut your starting 3 when you dont have a back up 3? I understand the salary cap and high payroll issue but who’s going to play the 3, literally? We don’t have a back up as we speak so what’s going to happen? Bring back Ebanks? He wasn’t able to take Mettas minutes in the first place …. Bad look ….

PlatypusParticipantHe’s from New York, why not go back, he could fit next to Melo and can spread the floor. Can guard Lebron in the playoffs which would help Melo’s offense. He would have to sign for cheap but he could sign a 1 year deal and see how it goes
Felton – Pirgioni
Shumpert – Smith / Hardaway
Melo – Smith / Peace
Peace – Stat
Chandler – Stat0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/08/2013 - 3:48pm #817070

BasketBalAllanParticipantDoes no one understand that the team Metta will play for is the team that bids highest for him AND has cap room?

dmo21ParticipantI was just looking at some teams that are under the cap (which means they can actually get him!!!) and I found 4 teams that he could make sense for (in no order):
-Atlanta: if they want to stay mediocre they can bid on him to start at the 3. They could possibly have a starting lineup of Teague/Ellis/Peace/Milsap/Horford with Korver and Williams off the bench. If that doesn’t say first round playoff exit I don’t know what does.
-Phoenix: they might try to revitalize his career, hitch is doubtful. But they need guys to fill a roster and they are low in quality wings.
-Portland: I actually really like this one as it strengthens their bench which they have been trying to do all summer so far. He also brings a tough nosed veteran presence which I think they lack. This team could be very good defensively on the wing with Batum, Matthews, and Peace.
-new Orleans: they don’t really have a sf on their roster. Could be extra help for a team that could possibly be playing for the 8th seed. Will add toughness to a pretty physically weak team.

Memphis MadnessParticipantIndiana Pacers!!!!!! He is actually what they need. Perimeter D, a part time stretch four, and Danny Granger insurance.
I know he single handedly blew up the franchise but he might be the guy who could put them over the top.

PhogifyParticipantI really think the Kings will try to snag him. They have been desperately searching for a SF. The new owners want a culture change in SAC so getting Metta would be a pretty desperate move for them to do but I think they should go for it.

jmarg25ParticipantHow about Brooklyn? No qualified backups at SF for Pierce, so I think it would be a good fit. Just don’t know if they’ll have the money to pull that off though.

TyroberParticipantLakers are saving an absolute ton of money by doing this. They obviously could have used him this year, but letting him stay on the team vs 30million you don’t have to spend? Not a very hard choice imo, but Artest will probably be picked up off of waivers.
