The Lakers are just not playing well as a team. Kobe trys to be a scorer but after that achilies injury he has lost some explosivness. They do have some good young guys. Clarkson, Randle and Druss.

I don’t see anybody being worse than them in the west this year. Big game against the Warriors tonight. If they can somehow win tonight I might change my mind. But it seems like they will be in the bottom three of records this year with Philly and Brklyn(hopefully LOL). Prbly holding on to the pick this year. No gurantee but would be a high average that the Lakers would stay in the top 3 of picks. Knowing the NBA they will end up with the #1 and Simmons. And I  wil Scream RIGGED if they get him.

    Sorry Philly fans.

& continue to develop & I think they can win some games in the 2nd half of the year & at least feel good about going into next year….

A Lot of the teams w/ vets sort of mail it in once they know they are not in playoff contention…. I’m not sure tanking just to keep that pick is worth it….. b/c it might come back to bite them….

If they finish strong they might attract a top free agent or two….

They are going to be tanking whether they want to or not as long as Kobe is playing 30+ minutes and B Scott is the coach.  It doesn’t matter if they are in every game going into the last 3 minutes like they have been.  Kobe will single handedly shoot them out of it.

Giving themselves the best odds at keeping the pick should be a priority.  If they have to convey the pick will it matter to them if it’s the 4th pick or the 8th pick?  Probably stings a little more but ultimately it doesn’t matter.  They need to give themselves the best chance.

Ironically enough, the more minutes the young players get the better the team is.  Scott doesn’t realize this yet and continues to play Bass, Williams extended minutes.  Even thoough they have hardly had a plus effect when on the court.

Tanking by accident.  I refuse to give Scott enough credit to say he is doing it on purpose.

       – which he’s already struggling w/ his back…. maybe the young guys Russell, Clarkson & Randle can take over & gel a little bit… they have 3 really good young players there…. & if they win some games maybe they could attract a free agent or two & that would actually work out better than worrying about that pick…. Just a thought….

The Lakers need a more versatile big man at the center position. Ben Simmons won’t really help the lakers he’s to similar to Randle. the player that would fit this Lakers team perfectly Skal Labissiere, he would complement Randle very well in the paint

In the lottery you take BPA period, not worry about fit.  And you especially don’t pass up Ben Simmons for Julius Randle.

Like Portland with passing MJ for Bowie because they needed a big man and they had Clyde the glide, so they passed over the GOAT.

If you can get Simmons, you get Simmons. Other than that, I love Brandon Ingram for them. He’s a great shooter (a little streaky right now), he can get to the rack, and he’s got great defensive potential (though he’s struck out a little in college so far). His height and reach would help make up for some of Randle’s size/blocking inadequacies. He can also play within a system (a team player), which is good because everyone else seems to need the ball. Perfect player for them.

If they got Simmons, they’d have to trade Randle (as much as I like Randle). I agree with you that Simmons and Randle serve the same purpose. Skal, however, is a stretch 4 to me. A slightly slow one. I’m really concerned about his physicality as a center. His shoulders are naturally built closer together and he just doesn’t fight very hard. Effort can be coached and he can hit the weight room. He’s so great around the rack and mid-range, I’m just not seeing him being next to Randle as being any better than the Randle with Okafor scenario that everyone on here warned against before the last draft.

I don’t think they are really even doing it for the pick. They just are not that good. The young guys will definetely get better. But they are going to be tough for them to get above some of the other bottom teams like Blazers, Nugs or Kings. All three of those teams have already one some games against good competition. The Rockets and Pelicans will most def rise up in the ranks. So I forecast the Lakers still at the bottom.

Thats a myth that should be embellished from the league. The spurs don’t use that method and look at there success, if you think draft best player available crap is the way to go your team will look like the Philadelphia 76ers. Im not predicting the lakers roster for next season but imagine if that drafted Labissiere.

    Labissiere

    Randle

    Nance jr

    Clarkson

    Russell

Thats i pretty nice you core to build on. And you never know what may happen in free agency

So by your logic the Spurs should have passed on Tim Duncan because they had David Robinson?  Yeah that would have worked out great.

The Spurs don’t pick in the lottery, or haven’t since they took the BPA last time they had the chance.

Later first round for fit, lottery BPA.

Really cut and dry for you eh?  Tim Duncan was listed as a PF/C and also played primarily as C at Wake Forrest.

He played mostly PF for the Spurs because they did the smart thing and chose BPA as opposed to the true PF Keith Van Horn, who went 2nd.

Duncan has played over half of his career in the NBA as a C.

He has basically played both positions his entire basketball career.

If you really can’t make the connection that I have going I can’t help you anymore.

Also, Skal is projected as a PF/C, much like Timmy.

At 215 lbs, the first few years could be quite rough for him at C, so he might see some time at the PF.  Thus producing the same redundancy as Simmons would with Randle.

I like Skal as much as the next guy, but if the choice is Simmons or Skal…. it should be an absolute no brainer.

Labissiere will play the 5 in todays NBA "small ball" and Tim Duncan only played a couple of seasons with the Admiral so of course he played half of his career at the 5 the 5 as well as the 4 but is a true 4, rough for him lol that means it would be rough for Porzingis his style of game is similar to Labissiere. If you can Ball you can ball size don’t matter
