123BballMasterParticipantI keep seeing these posts about the Lakers "Perfect" offseason, and as a lifelong Lakers fan here’s what I hope happens this offseason for the lakers. First I hope the Lakers get the #2 pick in the draft. I say this because I would like for the lakers to draft Brandon Ingram from Duke. I thin he fits their team better due to his shooting ability and him not needing the ball in his hands a ton. I’m not saying he’s a better prospect than Simmons but I don’t think you can have Simmons (Who’s a PF IMO), Russell, and Randle. Each player needs the ball in their hands and the spacing would be poor. That problem doesn’t exist with Ingram. Next, of all possible free agents, I think the lakers should take a hard look at Hassan Whiteside. I don’t think KD is going to leave the Thunder, you can tell he really likes playing under Donovan and they are still a championship contender. Whiteside is another perfect fit for this team. He sures up their pitiful defense and he’s still relatively young with the possibility of getting better. Finally I think the Lakers should hire Scott Brooks as their next coach. Everyone knows Byron Scott is a terrible coach so I’m not gonna waste time bashing him. Brooks as the coach would be excellent because he has shown the ability to develop young players. For as much flack he got in OKC, he got his players to play every night and developed all his young players properly, from KD, Westbrook, Harden, Ibaka, Adams, Reggie Jackson etc. With DLo and possibly Ingram, you have the makings of a mini/young Russ and KD. He also is a very good defensive coach and would help on that end of the floor dramatically. It really sucks when the lakers are bad and I think if they join the new wave a have a draft and develop plan than they can take the steps to be a great franchise again.

Reptilian MonkParticipantLakers would be very excited with any top 3 pick. If its Simmons, Brown, Ingram or someone else. Then they would have Simmons/Ingram, D Angelo Russell, Randle, Clarkson, and Larry Nance as a young nucleus to build around. They will have lots of money to attract free agents they could get some but Lakers are 2-3 years out from being serious even if a huge free agent like Durant. Get a new coach possibly. Once their young core develops together then they will be great again.

HitsterParticipantThe Lakers need to keep their pick basically to either add a player or flip it for something in a trade.
As regards FA moves, the Lakers are still one of the traditional powerhouse big market teams so would be an attractive option to a lot of FAs.
I’m going to float an idea for how LA Lakers approach FA, they need to decide who they have the best chance of landing and make a real big pitch for him. Sure they’d love KD and the fans may want them to try for him but if they don’t think they can get him. Go all in on other FA’s from day one, like how the Spurs identified Aldridge as their target, went out and got him, maybe the Lakers do the same with someone like Whiteside or whoever else they may target.
They can then look to target a franchise level FA in 2017 or beyond.

123BballMasterParticipantI totally agree. I feel like in offseason’s past the lakers didn’t really have a "plan" in FA, they just wanted to try and sign every high profile free agent available therefore they couldn’t put all their effort in on just one FA, like SA did w/ Aldridge.

Dazzling Dunks and Basketball BloopersParticipantI’m not saying Brooks is a bad coach but he was rather stubborn with his rotations in okc throughout his tenure and I thought it cost them at times. His offensive strategy too often just seemed to dissolve into get kd and Russ the ball and let them take turns "doing their thing". At times, it seemed like they won in spite of him instead of because of him. I’m not sure he is the coach I would want to lead a Lakers rebuild.
I would be much more in favor of them hiring Luke walton, although I admit he was just kind of handed the keys to a Ferrari this season. I would be interested to see how he would do under much tougher circumstances.

MopgrassParticipantI’d vote that they avoid free agency and tank one more time (getting a young center).

ballislyfe25ParticipantKeeping the pick obviously would be a great start but I expect them to get after it in free agency this summer. If Miami is really willing to let Hassan Whiteside walk I hope the Lakers offer him a big time deal. Harrison Barnes is a RFA and offering him a max deal would be a nice move.

HitsterParticipantLooking beyond LBJ who I think we all assume will resign with the Cavs and KD then the next best unrestricted FA’s ruling out the vets who are in their mid 30’s or guys who have played for the Lakers before are the likes of :-
Whiteside, Horford, Conley, DeRozan (player option), Parsons, Batum, Rondo, Jefferson, Noah.
Some of these guys would be good fits with the Lakers others less so.
