BeastMode716ParticipantAnyone else read this story about how disfunctional Jim Buss truly is & how Jeannie Buss had No idea Luke Walton was being hired.
The story was a real eye opener & it explains why no Free Agents have even condiered my Lakers.
From the article, it seems like Jim Buss, Mitch Kupchack & Jeanie Buss barely interact.
Has anyone else read this piece – I was wondering what others think of the story?

Moon RiverParticipantI don’t think it will happen in my life time, but I wish those dysfunctional Buss kids sell the team.

Magic JordanParticipantSilver Screen and Roll had an interesting article about how this wreaked of a Jeannie Buss leak. A quick summary being that every point in the article is made to shed a negative light on Jim while alleviating Jeannie of any blame when there clearly should be some. It also shines positive light on Phil Jackson at every turn while using phrases that leave a door cracked for him to come back into the organization.
I wish Jeannie would shut the fuck up. Has Jim done the best job? No. But only when compared to the unrealistic expectations that some Laker fans place which are only propelled by the constant media bashing that he recieves. His biggest mistake was probably giving Kobe Bryant that ridiculous extension which constantly goes unmentioned. Some how Kobe slides under the radar but why would players have wanted to play with him the past few years? Anybody looking at him with objective eyes can say the same thing.
Jim has drafted well, outside of Kobe and Nick Young he hasn’t commited any long term money to a bunch of bums and he now has some pieces that could pan out into decent players if given time.
Is it his fault that the NBA stripped the Lakers of the one true advantage they had, financial and location based? His own sister, heading up the business side of things as I understand it was one of the biggest supporters of balancing the CBA and making sure small market teams got a fair shake. And now she wants to cry foul ball when Lakers lost the clearest of advantages that they had on most other teams? Perhaps she should have considered such limitations when she was arguing for a more fair revenue sharing system.
To top it all off, this article drops right before free agency hits, as the Lakers have had basically a perfect summer at least by last few years standards heading into free agency. Got rid of that clown B Scott, kept their pick and made the right choice with it. There was genuine positivity surrounding the Lakers for the first time in a few years. Jeannie could sense that so it makes all the sense in the world for her to throw a wrench in that to guarantee that "competitive timeline" doesn’t get discarded due to the obvious progress that was being made.
Routine mentions of Jim being the "favorite child" of Jerry. That type of talk only comes from a jealous sibling. It’s clear where Kevin "baby" Dingaling gets his sources. And the timing really couldn’t be worse.

NBAjunkie81Participantthe part where Jim Buss avoid’s Bryan Shaw when he had a chance to mend an old wound was something you often see when the children of a Great Person take over that business……..
Jeannie comes off as a hard worker but that is not enough —- when you are in charge you can Not be Friends — you Must be a Leader & make tough decisions & that will hurt some people’s feelings…… It seems really clear that she is with Phila Jackson — a Much older man – b/c is the One person who reminds her of her Father……
Jim Buss seems like a guy who just does not want to be there & that’s fine —– Jeannie has got to Focus on the Health of the Business / Team……
Dr. Buss was a Brilliant owner —- the trades he made to acquire Kareem, Magic, Worthy, Shaq, Kobe etc were nothing short of Genius……
& he learned how to run an organization B4 he ever owned the Lakers b/c he was a Self Made man who rolled up his sleaves went out into the World & succeeded…….. The Lakers fans & business partners must ask themselves this question:
If Jeanie & Jim Buss were Not Dr. Buss’ kids would they be in those Very important jobs? In other words – did they Earn those jobs??? The answer is a resounding No……. you can Give your kids any position you want when you own a Big business but ultimately the company will Fail if they are incompetant —– b/c Business is a Jungle & the competition will Eat the unprepared Alive……

Memphis MadnessParticipantLooks more likely that the Lakers will have to rebuild through the draft.
Luckily, they have some good young pieces in D’Angelo Russell, Brandon Ingram, Jordan Clarkson, Julius Randle, and Larry Nance, Jr.
They need to develop internally if they want to get back to contender status.
If they don’t sign Durant, there aren’t too many true game changers out there. Hassan Whiteside would be the second best option… and I would probably back up the truck to get that guy.
Outside of the big hits, the Lakers might need to concentrate on getting Festus Ezeli cheap. Solid, young big who should be able to be a decent starter, and would fit in with the rest of Luke Walton’s Gang.
Jeremy Lin might be one of the few mid-range guys I would throw some money at. Would probably fit the system and give the Lakers a nice, versatile 3 guard rotation.
They should also be on the look out if the T Wolves trade Ricky Rubio. If the Lakers can keep their young core (Russell, Ingram, Randle, Clarkson) to get a high level playmaker they should do it.
I would see if Minny would take their draft pick Ivaca Zubac, Brandon Bass, Nick Young, and 2 future first round picks.
If they can draft Whiteside then Rubio, Russell, Ingram, Randle, and Whiteside, with Clarkson and Larry Nance, Jr. off the bench would be a nice, formidable, young core.
The T Wolves get Bass and Young, two solid veterans, to augment Minny’s young core. Plus, they get a couple of future first round picks…
If the Lakers strike out on Durant, Whiteside, a top handful of other guys, AND an enticing trade package, then they should go the 76ers route and steadily build through the draft.
Not sure they have their own pick next year though…
Won’t it go to Philly?
Looks like the Lakers have a bit less margin for error than they used to.

BiggysmallsParticipantDidn’t read the article in depth but I thought the poster above’s comment on "the NBA stripping the Lakers of the only advantage they had…" comment was interesting.
Why would the league want certain teams having competitive advantages in the first place? LA is still a big and attractive market to certain players…that’s plenty advantage over markets in the midwest that are cold during the season. Why make it even harder for those teams to stay competitive?
The whole thing just seems like a long time coming for some people who are used to getting everything handed to them and getting their way. Now they’ve actually got to think and try at their job and they clearly haven’t done very well for a while. The Lakers will be fine, it just might take a little time. Which it should. Every other team in the NBA goes through rough patches, why should the Lakers be any different?

VRod305ParticipantWhy did Silver suspend Draymond Green to get LeBron back in the series? Why did Silver force Sam Hinkie out and put that snake Colangelo in charge? He’s a Dukie, so of course he wants everything fixed for the teams and players he thinks are most marketable. Of course he wants the Lakers to be good. It won’t happen though, because they have no stars and no way of getting a star (until Silver fixes the lottery for them next year). This team is the biggest dumpster fire in the NBA and will be until Silver can find a way to get them out of it.

I CALLED GAMEParticipantOf course Jeanie Buss didn’t know Luke was getting hired she doesn’t deal with that part of the business. The article spoke about stuff we already knew about, this really is irrelevant. What family doesn’t have problems in 2016, like Kevin Ding should be shunned from the Lakers facilities for posting this before the free agency period begins. But once there young talent get them to the playoffs whenever that happens players will be back on there jock, there the 16 time world champion Los Angeles Lakers. If KD leaves OKC he’ll be considered a bandwagon player who hops on title teams because he couldn’t get it done on a team that stars him.

Meditated StatesParticipantSounds like LeBron. Durant if he goes to the Celtics he is not running, just leaving for a better organization and better shot in the east.

llperezlakers are doing good for themselves. They have been really smart with money not overpaying. When they couldnt land stars, they brought in guys on the final year of their deals like jeremy lin 2 years ago and roy hibbert last season. The salary space is in a great spot and they have nice young pieces. The fact is this isnt the 80’s or 90’s where not every team was ran first class. Now adays, every team has a billionaire owner, first class facilities and travel, spend top dollar and the tv and marketing advantages in los angeles are not as drastic as they used to be where half the teams in the league got no media coverage outside of their city a couple decades ago. Lakers can not just rest on being “the lakers” as a selling point, we need to go out and do the things the right way and it certainly appears they are in the process of doing that,

VRod305ParticipantNice job. The Lakers are clearly a mess and never get an ounce of blame from the national media. They keep churning out terrible season after terrible season with no hope yet it’s "oh, they’ll get a big free agent". Then last year they botch the Aldridge meeting.
Can’t wait to see them win 12 games next year.

HitsterParticipantAfter Jerry Buss passed away there was a void in the Lakers ownership. The kids probably don’t have the gravitas or knowhow that Jerry had Mitch Kupchak has never had to rebuild a team from scratch that he is now having to do and has no Phil Jackson to fall back on either,
