I keep reading that Byron Scott is the leading candidate to be the next Laker head coach.  I for one, don’t like it.  I just did not see anything in his three coaching stints that makes me think he should land this job.  From an X’s and O’s standpoint, I am not sold.  I think he was fortunate in that he had Jason Kidd, Chris Paul and Kyrie Irving as his point guards, but he still did not win.  His career winning percentage is 44% (416 wins and 521 loses).  There were also multiple reports he and Kidd clashed when he was in New Jersey.  How is he going to deal with Kobe?  

I hope Mitch has a better option in play for the next head coach.

I think Hollins would be nice, the team is fine offensively but can’t defend a turtle from driving to the hoop.

I don’t even know what they are trying to do from a player standpoint.  They have (I believe) 3 guys under contract.  Are they rebuilding, trying to make a push to contend with Kobe or something in between?  I would think they need to clarify that before hiring a coach.  What they do on Thursday should be a good indication of what direction they are heading.

What about Andy Enfield?  The former Florida Gulf Coast coach.  Did he do ANYTHING at USC?

Go with Zach Lavine or Aaron Gordon at 7 or another UPSIDE guy, and get a coach who can COACH, and run a fun system.

John Calipari might not get an NBA job this year, but what about NEXT season?  If his ‘cats win the title, then wouldn’t he think about moving on?

It sounds like with the new, shorter contracts, NBA teams are RECRUITING guys each year.  Let’s get 3 great players to play together then we can add bargain bin guys around them.

Coach Cal can RECRUIT.  He can HYPE and MARKET.  He is always bringing the BUZZ.  Another thing, he has a GREAT eye for talent, and how the pieces can fit together.  So, he could have some input in the draft and then in the "recruiting process" each summer. 

For THIS year, I would look at Andy Enfield.

If they can’t get him, then I would try to get Coach Cal next year.

As a stop-gap coach, I would look at Lionel Hollins.  One thing there: If Pau resigns, then his bro Marc could want to go to the Lakers next summer.  He’s familiar with Lionel Hollins.  Maybe they even get Rudy Gay, too, if they can somehow pay all these guys. 

Especially for the LA Lakers, you RECRUIT.  You go sign Shaq.  You trade for Kobe.  You sign Dwight and Nash.  They print money, so they can always try for the home run.  They can buy talent and people want to play in LA, especially for the Lakers.
