jaysmith1987ParticipantLabissiere from Kentucky is probably one of the most overhyped recruits in the last decade. For a guy rates in the top ten he is a big man that can’t rebound doesn’t block shots and looks lost in every aspect of the game. I wonder why caliper I won’t start humphries over the guy. When lab issuers is in the game the guards have to rebound because he won’t. Coach cal said he might need two years unless he gets an amazing workout routine in the summer and raises his basketball iq by leaps and bounds he will need four years to just become a possible d league big man forget the nba right now. With caliparies next class coming in I don’t know how this guy gets on the floor next year.

TarHeelRavenParticipantPeople are saying this guy is a first round pick. You have got to be kidding me. I agree with you. I cannot remember a recruit so hyped coming in that can’t even put up numbers against average college competition. He’s been invisible in this game. I believe his high school situation absolutely killed his development. He looks lost in every aspect of the game.

he_gets_bucketsParticipantGood call. Yikes that guy was just flat out bad at basketball. Terrific athlete, wonder if he should have pursued a career in track and field.

ItsVictorOladipoParticipantMaybe Josh Selby too. I know Selby had his injury problems but he was also just not very good. 7.9 PPG, 2.2 APG, 2.2 RPG and a 37 FG% in 20 MPG for Kansas.
Oddly enough I remember him putting up 21 points on his debut and looked like he was going to be a stud but Skal also started his season off strong, going for 26 points, 5 boards and 2 blocks in his second game. He’s been exposed as the year has gone on.

SlickBouncePassParticipantSo clueless, unfortunately I know some Haitians and I think his personality might be a factor. Kentucky doesn’t even try to get him the ball, and he looks so helpless and clueless.
They don’t even look his way on offense. He’s so skinny. He’ll still go top 10 because of his length, but I don’t even know what position he’d play in the NBA. He doesn’t look imposing at all to play in the frontcourt and he never steps out of the paint so Idont’ think he has a perimeter game.
Amongst Cousins, Towns, Randle, Anthony Davis, Noel, and even Cauley-Stein, he is the worst of all of them as far as college game.

TarHeelRavenParticipantPicking this guy top ten will get a GM fired. Why would anyone want this guy on their team? It’s insane. Maybe he’s five years away from being able to last 2 minutes on the court in an nba game. Skal is ready to be an nba millionaire but he’s not ready to be an nba player at all. I kinda feel bad for the guy since he probably juat thought he could come in run around for a year and then be a millionaire. He’s so bad right now. His teammates weren’t even looking to pass him the ball in the game.

MopgrassParticipantPerhaps too much was made of the one game he outshot Thon Maker (who is now a lot stronger already).

TripleDoubleScoutParticipantCan we now officially stop the "Labissiere is a lottery pick" talk on here? This guy has a better shot at the Powerball lottery. Will he improve? Yes. But not into an NBA starter. I’ve been on the record on this site consistently saying this kid was extremely overrated. I’m more disappointed in the scouting services that ranked this guy. People just don’t understand that production in amateur all-star games, even high school games to a degree, is only like 1/8th of what you look at to evaluate an NBA prospect. Body frame and type, hustle, and being ELITE at least one NBA skill are 20 times more important than whether someone can put up 20 or 30 points in games against fellow teenagers, and people overlook that.

TarHeelRavenParticipantI think it just proves how hard it is to scout guys and predict what they’ll do against elite competition. Most of these guys are the most skilled, talented and gifted players playing for their high school and it’s not even close. These hype videos show them jumping over and sprinting past guys who are 5’7′ and slow and will never play basketball at the college level. It’s easy for them to look amazing. Of course, all of us on here know not to get too worked up over these videos. The fact that Skal went to Kentucky just put a microscope on him that much more because everyone expects Cal to churn out lottery picks year in and year out and for the most part, he does. I was watching one of those behind the scenes videos on youtube about Kentucky the year after Anthony Davis and MKG. He was saying Kentucky wasn’t for everybody and don’t come here if you can’t handle the pressure. It’s not Skal’s fault everybody was saying he was a surefire lottery pick and possibly the number one draft pick. He’s probably bought into the hype. He’s a young kid and I don’t know what goes on beind the scenes at the practice facility at Kentucky and whether it’s a motivation thing or a work ethic thing or he just isn’t very good, but obviously the results haven’t translated onto the court. I’m not saying he should transfer or not, but perhaps going somewhere else with less pressure would do him good. I think declaring for the draft would be the ultimate mistake. He’d be paid, but he wouldn’t play at all and he needs a lot more seasoning obviously.

Dazzling Dunks and Basketball BloopersParticipantSkal has played his way out of the lottery and likely out of the first round. He is just completely overwhelmed by the speed and physicality of the college game right now. He has no idea how to collect himself and finish strong in traffic and establish position in the post. He definitely looks like someone who has never really been tested against elite competition before and has just gotten by on natural physical advantages up to this point.
With that being said, I think skal does have a decent skill set for a player his size but he is not being allowed to really utilize it at Kentucky. Coach cal is really not doing him any favors imo. He is basically using him the same way he did towns a year ago and skal is a much different player than towns. He does not have the bulk to be a post up threat right now but he does have a decent touch on his shot and I think he could be more effective as a pick and pop threat. He doesn’t operate well in traffic but he’s much better in space. However, cal seems to discourage his big men from doing that. I just think Kentucky was a bad fit for him for a number of reasons. I know he wouldn’t want to waste a year, but it might be in his best interest to transfer, redshirt a season and really work on developing his body and game, kind of like wiltjer did.

Dazzling Dunks and Basketball BloopersParticipantI actually still don’t think that’s a completely terrible comparison. Remember that he is 18 years old and far from a finished product. Aldridge didn’t exactly tear it up at Texas his freshman season either from what I remember. In fact, his stats were probably not that much different than skals and there are definitely similarities between the 2 at the same age.

UC1000Participantmuch coaching. Last year’s team he had a lottery pick in Booker coming off the bench and now he is starting in the NBA. Ulis and Booker were each better than the Harrison twins. Now he has a stretch 4 playing primarily down low. Briscoe shouldn’t be a starter with his J. Ironically, Skal is a better shooter than Briscoe but Briscoe is taking 3s. Cal is bad and has been since he couldn’t make the tournament with talents like Noel, Cauley-Stein, and Wagner at Memphis. Brad Stevens would have taken his lunch money at 35 in terms of coaching.

Memphisboy14ParticipantI’m off the train now. I remember before being impressed with how he played before he went to Kentucky. Even in his first few games I was still pretty confident that things would only get better but, instead they’ve just gotten so much worse. I don’t even see the talent anymore. Might as well put him in with Michael Beasley and OJ Mayo as guys who I thought would be great in the pros. At least Mayo and Beasley were good in college.
