JoeWolf1Kyle Lowry has recently come out with some criticism towards McHale and expressed interest in leaving Houston. If the differences cannot be reached I think this could effect Houston’s draft strategy.
If they can resign Goran Dragic, I think they would now want to add a young backup point guard considering 36 year old Earl Boykins would be their only point guard with Lowry out of the picture.
This draft is not particularly deep at the PG spot, but with 2 picks in the mid first, neither one of those picks would be reaching too high for Kendall Marshall or Damian Lillard. Even Tony Wroten could be considered in that range.
Now, Houston has been trying to acquire a center for years and if Meyers Leonard or Tyler Zeller are on the board when they are picking, I’d have a hard time believing Houston would pass, but with that other first rounder I think Marshall, Lillard and Wroten are all very viable options for the Rockets.

JNixonParticipantYeah they should let Lowry walk and take the best PG available

TyroberParticipantI think there is a good chance Marshall and Lillard will both me gone at 14. If they want one of those guys then they will probably have to trade up and package the 14th and 16th picks to do it.

JunkYardDogParticipantI’m pretty sure the rockets will trade during this draft. They have too many forwards, a pg who wants to leave, another one who is RFA, a hole at center, some veterans with value. And finally lots of young prospects without all the playing time they need. Especially when you think they will have to free some playing time for motiejunas next year… and he’s not a center but a real pf (that’s to say he would play after scola, patterson and morris …?).
The rockets could decide to move up : 14 & 16 against a 5 – 9 pick to get "quality over quantity" (if they target A player) or trade some of their young guns (as they already did with j.hill or t.williams).

fliptonnParticipantI think they have to stick with the plan and draft a center or trade the pick. Dragic is still pretty young and this will be his first year as the legit starting point guard so they should probably go after a veteran back up. Kirk Hinrich and Jamal Tinsley come to mind off the top of the head. But they seem to be the likely team to trade their pick this year. They have so many trading assets with guys like patrick patterson, luis scola and marcus morris, plus that pick. We know theyve had their sights set on Gasol for a while and the Lakers need depth. Phoenix could be in need of a PG this summer too so trading Lowry, Morris and a pick for someone like Gortat would solve the point guard problem for both teams, make Phoenix a little younger, reunite the Morris twins, and strengthen the Houston front line.

bloodshyParticipantHe’s unrestricted, which is bad news for Houston. Since he’s not close to commanding max salary numbers, Houston has no leverage on him. I have a feeling he’s going to walk unless Houston offers him substantially more than his market value.

HitsterParticipant14th and 16th picks combined would perhaps get Houston up to about 9th or 10th in the draft but if they want a C then this does not really give them that many more options looking at the current consensus mocks.
The Pau Gasol trade might still be an option but the Lakers would want a ready made replacement or strengthening at PG or SF which Houston cannot provide them so a 3rd team would be needed to provide the Lakers with this and maybe take picks or assets from Houston.
I’d guess Houston would like to pair Scola with Gasol but could maybe look to move Dalambert who has a team option for next year to help balance salaries out.

iguapops420ParticipantHou still has Lull waiting in Spain to come over. He’s not a true pg, but has Dragic like potential IMO. Decent scoring instincts.

PulseGlazerParticipantThey should give Goran a good offer, but Wroten makes a lot of sense for them. They need someone with star potential, which Wroten has, and can afford to lose a few more games while letting him develop. McHale may be abraisive, but he’s good at developing talent.
