I posted on here a couple days ago that of the remaining free agents available, I had hoped the Bulls would sign Kurt Thomas for veteran leadership and some frontcourt depth at power forward and center. Looks like this is going to be a reality.

Thomas, a 15-year veteran, averaged three points and four rebounds last season for the Milwaukee Bucks. He will back up Joakim Noah, essentially replacing Brad Miller’s role on the roster. Thomas will undoubtedly serve as a mentor for Noah, as Miller did, and will help rookie center Omer Asik adjust to the NBA.

With Thomas’ addition, the Bulls are expected to add one more guard in the next week, which would give them 12 players under contract heading into training camp.

Thomas has averaged nine points and seven rebounds during his career.

Nothing official has been released, but it looks like 1 year for the vet minimum

Better than the Heat?

The 4th-11th man for the Bulls are better than the Heats, and Boozer, Rose and Noah are no slouches ^^^^

This is a good move but not too much impact. Provides rebounding and some tough defense.

I don’t think the Bulls matchup well with the Heat besides PG and maybe PF

Noah is not a monster offensive threat. I don’t think Big Z will start at Center. I think it’s Joel Anthony. edge to Chicago then.

Better bench? No. I like Miami’s bench. Miller, Jones, Howard, Arroyo, Howard are a really good set IMO.

Plus, I don’t see Chicago stopping LeBron. I could see LeBron being the PG and ripping up Chicago.

The Bull have the better team 1-12 all they were lacking was depth, low post scoring, and shooting they got all that plus they picked up a guy that can actually give Rose a break. If you dont agree tell me what need after all the moves they have made?

I disagree.

I like the pieces Miami have. I think your underrating LeBron a bit. He could bang inside as a small power forward or even handle as a spot PG for runs.

I say Miami has the better pieces. You could say that Chicago had a better off season in terms of filling needs but I cannot see the Bulls defeat the Heat in a playoff series.

^^ Disagree completely with heymama. After Bogut went down Kurt Thomas was the only competent big on the Bucks last season. For the minimum you could be doing a lot worse. Thomas is still one of the stronger guys in the league and his mid range jumper is still reliable. Obviously you are not looking at giving him more than 15 minutes a game but the guy can still be a thumper inside and push guys around. I think it’s a very good signing. Pretty much just makes up for anything you lost in Brad Miller. Don’t hate on him just because he’s older. I know a lot of big men in the league who will get minutes this year who won’t bring the toughness on defense that Thomas brings. We are talking about a guy for the minimum it’s a good value.
