Watching him move, you forget that he’s 7 feet tall.  Chad Ford of ESPN is in love with the guy.  He’s being compared to Dirk, and now I can see why.

Has anyone else noticed that mock drafts have his height from 7’1-6’9, I find that odd.

That was almost as good as Yi Jianlian’s workout video.

Just watched it.  The Yi Jianlian workout video is nowhere near as impressive as this kid’s by comparison.

You could tell Yi would be soft.  This kid is more like Pau with Dirk range.

Yi always looked timid, kristpas from what I seen has a different edge to him.

Kristaps speaks fluent English which I think will certainly help his development, he realizes the common notion that people have with 7 foot European players…He’s looking to dispell that.

A lot of ppl hate on the european big men in this post, lets stop for a second and see the top big men in the NBA. Marc Gasol, Pau Gasol, Dirk Nowitzki, Timofey Mozgov, Serge Ibaka (Not Euro but is international), Anderson Varejao (South maerica), Jonas Valaciunis, Andrew Bogut, Nikola Vucevic, Omer Asik,.. In this list there are some top big men and some average, however they are all starting on their respective teams.

I know there is speculations that big men from international countries are soft, but in reality north american big men cant even make a hook shot over the left shoulder in the past decade at least. Euro big men specifically are super skilled and are tough. Someone like Nikola Vucevic will be the best big man in the NBA in the next 3 years mark my words.

As for Kristpas, i would draft him top 3, he is a beast even just at a stretch 4 position and sometimes the 5 if needed.

Then you’ve got guys like Mirotic and Saric, and the skilled but injured Pekovic, and the All Rookie Nurkic who everybody slept on. Then there’s Rudy Gobert.

Most of the best big men are European/International. Just a lot of ignorance and bias.

If a big man doesn’t have a gang sign tattood on his neck he’s considered to soft and vanilla.

This kid is unreal good. What does Towns have on him? KAT just has a more NBA ready body.

They are comparing KAT to Divac. First off Divac is a legit 7’1 i have seen him in person, KAT even in shoes is not 7ft. Divac had ridicolous post moves (all jokes aside watch his tapes), KAT has some ok NCAA moves. If anything Okafor (not size wise) is more alike game wise like Divac than KAT will ever be.

In my opinion best big men are Prozingis and Okafor, i am really high on those two guys, i just see their game transitioning into NBA

People hate on euro bigs because its really easy to remember all the bad ones that have burned people and they all have the same things said about them

"long, skilled, mobile, looked great in workouts…etc"

Bargnani, Vesely, Darko, Yi, Tskitishvili (lol)

What makes Porzingas different from those guys is the big question? I really don’t know. Never seen him play. Yeah he is mobile and can shoot well for a 7 footer. Lots of NBA prospects are tall and can shoot so what makes him better or worse?

Listing the good NBA euros is convenient sure, but there are a lot of euros that have come over and not been good too. There’s plenty of American bigs that have been trash as well, so its all a crapshoot. Its a lot of stuff mental that people don’t get from watching a kid run around chairs and shoot jumpers.

I Agree with u completely, the thing is no one pays attention to all the bigs that are american that were complete misses, the list is endless. Sure Darko, Tikishvili and a few others were busts, but when compared to how many bigs come out of NCAA that are hyped to be the next patrick ewing or hakeem and never amount out to be eddy curry its ridicolous lol.

In retrospective, personally i think its just a trend as soon as u hear a european big man to be harsh on him, lets not forget Biendris who was also from Latvia and was a stud on golden state for a number of years, while he was much more raw and underdeveloped compared to Prozinigis.

It’s true that most of NBA’s bigs(4 and 5’s) are international players.Herceg_buku even forgot guys like Gortat,Nene,Scola,Splitter,Baynes.. And so on. And talking about athletic white euros, noone seems to talk about Kirilenko who had a terrific career as well. Theres just as many euro bust in terms of % than americans busts, from Beasley to Evan Turner to Derrick Williams and so on.

The comparisons I hate the most is with Vesely because it clearly shows the lack of knowledge about Porzingis. Except being athletic, what does he have in common with Vesely? He can shoot from three,Vesely can’t shoot from the FT line. And Porzingis is even taller than Jan Vesely.

And for those talking about "he only looked good in a workout",well he played in the most competitive domestic league behind the NBA,the ACB liga in Spain. Scouts have seen more than just a workout. The workout is more impressive from an eye test standpoint, the rim looks nine feet tall, and he runs and shoot like a guard.

      Thank you!

Its a harsh fact that USA produces the best guards and small forwards in teh world, it is not even close, no one in the world produces better players at that position. However, it is also a harsh fact that the best big men that have been produced and being produced are European.

Why? Well European coaches while coaching young big men from grassroots level spend all the time in the world developing skills such as a: shot, footwork in the post, both shoulder hook shots and passing. Some of the skills that should be basic but are never thought in the North America. North America focuses on being athletic and being able to run the floor, that is a prototype big man in North America. It is very odd to see a skilled big man like Cousins or Okafor, they come once in a decade it seems.

I may be way off, but as a European living in North America this is what i see.
