There has been speculation that kobe will go to play in turkey. Is this just a tactic to get the lockout ended quicker by putting pressure on the owners? Or is he really willing to risk playing overseas?
I think he’s just trying to put pressure on the owners to get a deal done. I don’t think that he is stupid enough to risk getting a serious injury and dissapoint the fans and his teammates. Also if he gets injured, he won’t get the money he already is going to get on his NBA contract.

I think if he he goes to a overseas team and get injured his contract is voided by the lakers there sort of making him a FA, but I believe Kobe will go overseas til the lockout ends he is too much of a competitor not to play all year. Im sure he will have a release clause so he can return to the lakers if he does sign though

Besiktas, likely the only Turkish team that could afford him, apparently was set to shell out 450k a month for him. They are now caught in a match fixing scandal involving soccer and have had much of their assets frozen. That makes the Kobe signing a no-go. Elsewhere perhaps?

Just playing but honestly, I know he may be the most competitive guy in the NBA today BUT he needs to use the time off and relax as much as possible and get 100% healthy again. For his interest and trying to add another ring to his collection, not playing in Turkey would be the smart move IMO

woops, didn’t read the topic correctly lol. I think it might be a tactic to put some pressure on the owners. Seeing one of the faces in the NBA playing overseas has to make Stern mad as hell

Tatic wont work because Kobe is a fading star. Maybe if Lebron, Rose, Howard, Durant and company plan to make moves overseas it would be more impactful. I think Kobe is still the man but is an old man compared to the young stars of the league, that the league markets.

As rumors continue to swirl that Kobe Bryant may join Deron Williams in Turkey, Seref Yalcin, the Head of Basketball Operations at Besiktas (the club that signed DWill and is chasing Kobe) has been quoted as saying that the chances of a deal are at 50-50. The original story from the Turkish paper is here, but translated into English, Yalcin says: “At the moment there’s a 50% chance that Kobe may come to Turkey. Everything will be clearer after the meeting on the 30th. We have not talked about money, as reported. We only talked about the possibility of Kobe playing in Turkey. We asked FIBA for approval and Kobe wants some time to think about it. We believe that his reponse is going to be positive. Money will not be a problem. Turkish Airlines, M-Oil and Milan Petrol will sponsor the deal.” (H/T Atahan Erim for the translation) SLAM

Still looks like it could go either way at this point.
