WizardofOzParticipant^^ Back then, some AAU teams just wore T-Shirts instead of fancy jerseys.

Mr. 19134Participantwhy is this surprising to you Kobe was a prodigy since grade school and an absolute phenom in High School…People in and around Philly new about Kobe for awhile and there was a lot of pressure for them to take Kobe with the first pick. We knew he would be this good. But we didn’t know he would turn into the smug arrogant player he is…And most of the greatest player of All Time were great in High School too so…

Toronto16ParticipantCharlotte shoudn’t have traded him. Whether he asked out or not.

HaleParticipantHe was extremely thin back then.

llperezhow things might have been different if charlotte kept him. Not only was taking a highscooler rare at that time but especially a gaurd. Charlotte did get vlade divac who was a notch below all-star good for about 15-10 as well as maybe the best passing center in the league. I dont remeber the hornets even really trying to talk kobe into wanting to go there, they seemed more then willing to make the trade if my memory is correct.

JoeWolf1Didn’t Kobe want to play in a big market out of HS? I thought one of the reasons he was traded is because Charlotte felt they wouldn’t be able to sign him.

JoeWolf1WizardofOz, I played AAU in 97′ (granted in Kansas) and it wasn’t nearly what it was today with all the money and whatnot going into teams. Granted I wasn’t on an All-Star team that put a bunch of guys into D-1 and NBA ball, but there was D-1 talent on some of the teams we played. We just had mesh tanktops and I remember a lot of people just wearing t-shirts. My how times have changed, lol
