I first need to clarify that I am a Kobe fan.  Above all else I am a Lakers fan though.  There is an obvious civil war going on among the fan base with Kobe fans vs Laker fans and Kobe fans usually come out in droves to protect their golden child so I will get negged to hell for this but whatever.

Kobe Bryant is again nowhere to be found on the bench during the game.  Here is a guy making 30 million dollars this year and a combined 50 over the next two (terrible in it’s own right) but that is neither here nor there.  The point being he will be part of this team for the next two years after this one.  Here is a guy making 30 million a year and he doesn’t have the courtesy to sit on the bench, cheer his teammates whether they will be there next year or not.  It’s not his teammates fault that his salary takes up have of the cap room available, it’s also not their fault for putting together such an awful team.  Yet he continues to act like a complete baby and is totally justifying all those years that people called him an absolute terrible teammate.  I was always the first to defend Kobe but as the years have gone by I…. wait for it…. which he would flat out retire.  Pau Gasol is on the bench constantly dishing out high fives and applauding his teammates effort and he might not even be there next year.  He has repeatedly been dangled the past 3 years in trade discussions by the organization but he is out there cheering his teammates because that’s what good teammates do.  Steve Nash has been pushing his body to the limits to try to play with these guys and if he can’t go, he is at least out there giving them support.  Again Kobe can’t muster this for an organization that has bent over backwards for his every wish the past 18 years?

Aside from being a poor teammate there are people who pay good money in those seats that would absolutely love to give Kobe a standing ovation just for walking out of the tunnel.  Yet he continues to say things like he won’t support this (This meaning this quality of team).  Well Kobe maybe you should have realized that when you accept such an absurd amount of money.  The whole situation all year has rubbed me the wrong way but he could have eased some of that terrible decision by the organization by showing up, being a good teammate.  Helping these young guys with his vast knowledge of the game and passing on what he has gathered in his 18 years in the league.  Instead he continues to pout and kick and scream and cry in a manner that is similar to that of a 6th grader, not a grown man in his upper 30’s who is making 30 million dollars a year.

Maybe if he would be going out gracefully and setting a good example for the young guys, mentoring and contributing some sort of positive effect on the franchise right now I wouldn’t be so bitter about the extension.  Maybe I wouldn’t be so against them trying to do everything they can, potentially mortgaging their future to get him his 6th ring.  Instead I am against it.  He doesn’t deserve number 6.  For someone who has emulated Michael Jordan his whole career and has constantly been compared to him, and quite frankly ripped off his whole demeanor he is nothing like him.  Sure Jordan was ultra competitive and rode his teammates hard but that was to get the best out of them, not disparage them.  No matter what is said about MJ, one thing that is never said is that he was a terrible teammate.  No, he would go to war with you as any teammate should.  Kobe can’t even walk out of the locker room (which he is hanging out in watching the game) to waive to the crowd that would follow him to the end of the world if need be.  They love the guy, and I used to too.  As time goes on it has grown increasingly impossible for any reasonable Lakers fan to support him.  Who in there right mind would want to play with this guy?

Sorry about the rant but at one point, we were all hoping Kobe would age gracefully and ride out with maybe 6 rings, but at this point he doesn’t deserve it.  He obviously won’t get it but even if he could he doesn’t deserve it.  Just needed to complain to some people who may understand what I am talking about.

*NOTE* As I was ending typing this rant, Pau Gasol was shown on the big board in the Staples Center and the crowd was beyond excited to give him a nice ovation, just something to think about how grateful they are for him.  As much as Kobe loves Pau if he could have learned anything from him, it would have been a little humility….. but not stubborn Kobe.

The Lakers have 3-4 games left? Kobe Bryant does not have to sit on the bench game after game after game he did that in the beginning of the year.

Maybe Kobe isn’t sitting down because the man’s many injuries (that he got while putting his heart and soul into that Lakers Jersey which is why they still have a fan base and fans like me defending him) will not allow him to sit still in a car (which is why he flies a helicopter to games not because he’s a prima Donna) for 2 hours and correct me if in wrong but NBA games last around that same time.

Maybe he’s spending time with his kids and wife since he’s dedicated so much to the Lakers and their Fan base that he possibly hasn’t had a lot of QT with because he’s always on a basketball court.

Or maybe just maybe, he’s somewhere in a gym, making sure his knee is healthy, getting in shape, working out while watching us en route to another lost as motivation so that WHEN HE COMES BACK WE DONT ENDURE THIS EVER AGAIN! (Which if I had to put money on it I’d put my money on that last one)

The Lakers have 2 games left.  He hasn’t been on the bench in about the last 20 games.  He sat on the bench game after game after game when he thought he was coming back, the moment he wasn’t he stopped.  That’s not selfish at all.  Everybody else is on the bench but god forbid the almighty Kobe have to.

I won’t even dignify the response to the helicopter comment because refusing to sit in traffic for 2 hours like everybody else that lives in LA isn’t pre-madonaish at all…. …….. at all.

Spending time with his family and kids because he’s dedicated so much time to the Lakers?  Guess what moron, that’s his job, he doesn’t have to do this job if he doesn’t want to, he chooses to do so.  That’s what he gets paid millions upon millions of dollars for, to do his job which believe it or not requires making public appearances.

If you had to put your lack of money on the last one you certainly fall into the Kobe cult I was speaking of in the original post.  There are 22 other hours in the day for him to be in the gym working out, the team pays him (handsomly might I add) to be part of the team, that’s what he should do… be part of the team.

I can’t wait for the guy to retire mostly so idiots like you will quit cheering for my team.  Nothing you responded with makes any sense in regards to the original post, just fan boyism…. as a matter of fact, Kobe is that you?

ive seen you rip on kobe in numerous threads recently so im calling bs on your "im a kobe fan" coment. you might be a laker fan, but you clearly have bias vs kobe. "he doesnt deserve #6" so are pulling against him and thus the lakers? you have done nothing but shit on kobe and everything he has brought, so it does not surprise you made this thread.

As for his axtension, kobe put up 27…6…6…just last season while playing in 78 games. he was all nba first team and deservedly so. The guys is one of the top 5 players in the game still assuming he can stay healthy(who knows if that happens). And you can not dismiss everything he has done for the franchise when paying him.

Secondly you talk about how poor a teammate he is. Here are some comments as recently as this month from current teammates about kobe’s impact on the team:

"Kobe has been a great mentor for me, just telling me all types of things during the game. That’s been unbelievable for me this whole year, learning from the greatest player to play this game. Who wouldn’t want to learn from and have Kobe in the locker room?"—Nick young

"The biggest thing I’ve learned the most from Kobe is his mental approach to the game. No matter if we played last night, if he’s sick or hurt, he’s always ready to play. This year, I try to take that aspect in my game. No excuses. No matter how the season is going, go out there and play hard and give it your best effort."—jodie meeks

Australian player dante exum has been very vocal as of late that he gets lots of advice from kobe and has signed with kobe’s managment team and hopes to play with him next season.

Pau gasol has been very vocal towards his support of kobe.

I could spend the next hour and probably find comments from every single current laker supporting kobe and how he is supporting the team. Sorry if he doesnt sit on the becnh and clap as you would like.

You try and divide laker fans from kobe fans like its an either or situaiton. Guess what, you can be fans of both. The fact you are so against kobe makes me question how long you have been on this laker train. ive been watching since the magic/worthy days and will never turn my back on the lengends as easily as you seem to.

I’ve been on the Laker train since 1988, when I was 4 years old and old enough to enjoy going to watch Laker games at the forum cheering for the greatest Laker ever. Magic Johnson, your opinion of how I feel about Kobe doesn’t matter to me, nor does the fact you question it.  I am a Kobe fan, I’ve paid for Kobe Jerseys, paid to watch him play tons of times AND always used to be the quickest to defend him.

But I can also put all my fan boyism aside to see what’s best for the team.  He is just a headache when he is not on the court.  Which will become more and more increasingly common the next few years.  A headache I am tired of having.  But it doesn’t matter what I say.  You paid for a Lakers jeresey to have your name put on it or whatever the hell that picture is of so you are definitely a more legitimate fan than I am.  I am way out of line for wanting the best for the TEAM rather than an individual who has always been selfish, we just ignored it because he won.

if you are a kobe fan, you sure have a funny way of showing it. And my avatar is picture that was created for me years ago by another member of this site who went by the name of marcus fizer.

You can think the lakers need to move on all you want, but your absolute ripping on kobe would have 99% of true laker fans saying find another team, we dont need you. You will get your wish within a few years of lakers post kobe. How about just show some respect for one of the greatest laker legends ever and stop being so damn negative and in a hurry to kick him out.

I’m a Kobe fan BECAUSE I am a Lakers fan.  If Kobe wasn’t on the Lakers how would you feel about him?  I know how I would.  Which is why I clarified I am a Laker fan first and above all.  If you want to label that as being not a Kobe fan than you are right.  Let me re-iterate again, I am a Kobe fan because I am a Laker fan.  Not the other way around.

That’s great that Fizer created your avatar, it again proves that you are hands down the better fan than I am.  And 99% is a bit over stated, few things are so firmly quantified.

I don’t think me wanting what’s best for the organization means I don’t respect what Kobe has done.  It just means that I am simply not willing to sacrafice what is the future for what has been accomplished in the past.  It is the reason we are in this predicament to begin with.

The two may not be mutually exclusive but then again, the way WE are headed they may be.  I can applaud what Kobe has done for the Lakers without having to consistently reward him for it again, and again, and again……. and again.

Aren’t the 5 rings he has won WITH the Lakers thanks enough?  You act as if he was alone in getting those, those are only possible because of the team THE LAKERS put around him.

would i be a kobe fan if he wasnt laker? Umm no, what kind of question is that? He was a laker though, so i am a fan of his. Not sure what you are even attempting to ask. Would bulls fans be jordan fans if he wasnt a bull? Probably not. Does that mean they are not jordan fans?

"I don’t think me wanting what’s best for the organization means I don’t respect what Kobe has done". No, you wanting whats best for the lakers doesnt mean you disrespect what kbe has done. You shiting all over kobe and calling him a cry baby and selfish and doing nothing but pinpointing his negatives while giving him no credit and hoping for the day he retires makes you disrespect kobe. Kobe didnt play this year and we sucked. maybe we can still be competitive with kobe. Of course you have already made up your mind that kobe=lossing so there isnt anything that could change your mind on that.

You clearly don’t understand the concept of what I said moron.  Does that mean they are not Jordan fans? What??  What are you talking about?  They are Jordan fans because he was a Bull.  We are Kobe fans because he was a Laker… this much is obvious.  Is your brain so simple it cannot deal with a hypothetical?  A hypothetical which in this case would clear up the Laker fan vs Kobe fan debate?  If Kobe wasn’t on the Lakers I wouldn’t like him.  That is not a hard hypothetical to grasp.  It’s not as if I am asking something so profound you have to twist the words to make your argument.  Would Bulls fans be Jordan fans if he wasn’t a Bull??? Probably not, but there will always be Jordan fans first, just as there will always be Kobe fans first…. you and Steez to name a few.

You act what I say is so un-justified.  It’s not, it only pisses you off because it’s coming from someone who is a Lakers fan.  Surely you have heard this stuff 1000’s of times from non Laker fans and it’s pissed you off all the same.  I just don’t have blinders on and can speak objectively…. call me a evolved human being I guess?  What a concept.

What is any of this if not rambling?  Your comments are so quality that it’s not considered rambling? Get over yourself buddy.

I haven’t heard anything about him last year or at times this year not sitting. You wanna know why? Because their winning and in the playoffs.

Kobe be has nothing to prove because he has not sat on the bench for the last 20 games (if it’s been the last 20 I’m calling bull&$#%#&@! on that)

Kobe Bryant is the sole reason we even talk about the Lakers. Had it not been for Kobe last year (which he deserved MVP for IF MVP GOES TO WHO MEANT THE MOST TO THEIR TEAMS SUCCESS BECAUSE WITHOUT HIM THEY DONT MAKE IT TO THE PLAYOFFS THEY DONT EVEN MAKE SPORTSCENTER AS 99.99 PERCENT OF ALL LAKERS PLAYS CAME FROM HIM (3 straight 3 pointers to get to OT and 4th to win the game, dunking on Josh Smith, Gerald Wallace and Brook Lopez, THE TRAILBLAZERS GAME!        Lol.  Thanks for justifying what I am saying about the Kobe fans vs LAKER fans.  When Kobe is gone, you won’t care about this team… I will still be here cheering.

Kobe was MVP last year? Really??… Again read the previous sentence I wrote.

The Lakers have 11 rings without Kobe, they were there long before Kobe and will be there long after Kobe.  Just like I will.  Just like you won’t.

I said he deserved it IF it was based on who meant the most to their team last year. Without Kobe on the Lakers last year the Lakers would have won maybe 10-20 games last year. We were that bad with Dwight. Kobe won a lot of games.

        2. I’m only 20 which means I was born in 90s, which means every Laker game I have seen Kobe Bryant has been on the floor. I didn’t grow up with Kareem, I didn’t grow up with Magic, I didn’t grow up with Wilt, Jerry West, Elgin Baylor. All the Lakers teams I’ve watched Kobe was on the team so of course when the term "LAKERS" comes up KOBE BRYANT is synonymous with it. Will I still be a Laker fan when Kobe is gone more than likely yes. But it would be hard to imagine the Lakers life after Kobe since the Lakers have always had him in my eyes.

I think you answered your own question on whether you will be a Lakers fan when he is gone.  You said you didn’t think he was on the bench in like the last 20 games.  That’s because you are not watching the games.  You are the Laker fans I do not care about.  You are the Laker fans we don’t need.

Very good points Magic, I’m glad to see a Lakers fan that is objective about the Kobe thing. Despite what llperez (aka a guy who’s never had an objective thought about the Lakers or UCLA) thinks, the odds of Kobe having anything close to all NBA level talent next year are extremely thin. He’s old, he’s now had back to back injuries, and he was beyond god awful when he did try to play this year. His cap hit is a disaster, and the Lakers are going to remain bad for a few years because of it. Giving him that money before he showed he could come back was pure stupidity,  and the opposite of good business.

steezgawd- Rose is on the bench for a lot of the games. He was there vs Detroit on Friday night.

please feel free to point out these unobjective opinions of mine regarding lakers or the bruins. Yeah, becasue im well known for spewing bias and garbage. All i do is bring opinion. Not thinking kobe is all done and finding "laker fans" who shit on him is nothing but bias, gotcha. Odds are mush more likely that you are anti laker and find agreement with anything anti laker?

They are still in the playoffs, they are not going out stinking up the joint every game. They play defense and they play hard.

If the lakers were playing hard like they played played in the beginning of the year believing Kobe would come back and get them to the playoffs he’d probably be on the bench more watching. They are not doing that.

Instead of having an attitude like the bulls who when Rose got hurt again for the 2nd (or 3rd I can’t remember) straight season, still maintained the attitude that they can play with and beat anybody and go out there and try to prove it, my Lakers after Kobe got hurt again instead gave up and stopped playing hard which is something Kobe didn’t do last year when Pau got Hurt, Steve Nash got hurt, Dwight got hurt. He endured and got them to the playoffs damn near single handedly playing damn near every minute of every game down the stretch. And that would frustrate the hell out of me too.

Whatever man, it doesn’t matter.  You have done more than enough to prove what I was saying in the first place, that the Lakers have two fan bases.  And it is obvious which one you fall into.  I don’t care about Kobe fans, I do care about Laker fans.  There is no need to respond to anything else you say.  My points have been made but feel free to keep proving them for me.

diss kobe like that as a so called” lakers fan! ”
i agree that there are some kobe fans and some lakers fans, but most are both.

as both a kobe fan and a lakers fan kobe deserves every penny of that contract from the work he’s put into throughout his career. the lakers have the final opportunity to reward a legend who deserves his work over time and at the same time get to rub it in the nba’s face that they are still grandfathered into the old rules with kobe’s old contract. not everyone can reward their legends, so since the lakers can it’s good they do. it’s classy in the sports world where often potential or projecting by age is often paid more than an aging legend and it would draw potential legends to come to want to play for the lakers if they are being taken care of.

as a lakers fan, i am concerned. it has nothing to do with kobe or his big contract. maybe some about his health. but the main reason is about jim buss. whoever the lakers draft this year better be a homerun and they obviously need a top free agent. it’s a long way up, and maybe it’s not seemingly possible. but if the lakers actually won a championship again with kobe bryant still playing-yes he would deserve it. he would deserve it even if he wasn’t at his best as the best player of the team if that were the case. i know one thing, i would want the lakers to win the chip if larry bird were the coach.

Exactly how me and my friends feel. Lakers cut an 18 year members who won 5 rings like magic Jordan prefers and we look heartless. Reward him and the message is sent we take care of our legends. Only helps with our image amongst the athletes and improves of our chances of remaining an elite destination for top tier free agents.

To be fair, the Lakers could’ve taken the middle road and not given out one of the worst contracts in NBA history. Hard to blame Kobe for accepting (who wouldn’t take that money?) but $15 million a year would’ve been more than enough to take care of your legend.

Where did I say cut him?  Where did I say even not to extend him?  I simply said that extending him at 25 million per year was stupid.  ESPECIALLY before he played a game before his injury.  I would have been fine even paying him 15 million a year as that is more than reasonable for someone his age, coming off of such a serious injury.  Nobody was saying cut him, I certainly wasn’t.  I simply said his childish attitude, coupled with his contract is disaster.  Again you don’t think that because you have your Kobe blinders on.  I do not.

The man has made over 200 million dollars in his NBA career and you are acting like he was underpaid or not properly paid.  He plays freaking basketball for a living he has made more than enough money in his career.

I hate to keep making it sound like I hate the guy because I don’t, but you guys leave me no choice with your clear bias.  Jim Buss two biggest mistakes.  1) Hiring Mike Brown/ Mike D over Phil Jackson…. and 2) Extending Kobe Bryant for an extra 50 million dollars.  Whether you want to believe it or not, anybody with half a basketball mind and doesn’t crave Kobe Bryant gravy knows that is waaaaay over paying given the circumstances.  Jim Buss has also in the past few years traded for Chris Paul( Vetoed) turned Andrew Bynum into Dwight Howard (left), went all in on Steve Nash and guess who he did that for?  To try to get Kobe and the Lakers another ring.  You hate Jim Buss because Kobe tells you to, not because of the moves he has made considering they have all been or have directly benefited your golden boy.

And I’m not making it sound like you hate Kobe, you are making it sound like you hate Kobe all by yourself:" he is headache and a headache I’m tired of having", "he acts like a complete baby", "wish he would flat out retire", "he’s a poor teammate", "He cries and kicks and screams like a 6th grader", " I am against him getting his 6th ring", "he doesn’t deserve number 6", "Jordan would go to war with his team like a teammate should( suggesting Kobe doesn’t go to war which has to be laughable to even the most anti Kobe person on this site)", "it’s impossible for any reasonable laker fan to support him", "who in their right kind would want to play with this guy", "he doesn’t deserve it…he doesn’t deserve it( repeated twice in one sentence in regards to him winning another ring)", "I can’t wait for the guy to retire"……etc. etc.

These are your very own words on this thread. Yeah, you don’t hate Kobe it’s just me putting words in your mouth lol. Go find another team. Your kobe hate consumes you, relax.

so my comments are kobe has done great things for the lakers, his contract is deserved, hopefully he comes back strong and we compete next year. Thats pretty much the extent of my "love" for kobe as you call it.  GO ahead on post any comments of mine that reflect these opinions. Now on the other hand, i could simply copy and repeat my last post about what you have said about kobe. You do nothing but rip into him like he was the one responsible for everything that ever happened negative in your life. Yet, in your convoluted mind, im biased towards kobe with my outlandish comments and you are simply middle ground and unobjective about the lakers situation. LMAO.

The fact he has that contract means they can’t compete next year that’s the part you dont seem to understand, or want to understand.  He will be getting paid more than any player in the league , more than Lebron and KD when his production won’t match anywhere close to that.  Are you denying this? Is this not true? So how could you say he is worth that?

You have been trying to discredit me as a Lakers fan because I am fed up with Kobe.  If you would provide a valid argument as opposed to just copying and pasting things that I said like I somehow forgot I said them? Then maybe it wouldn’t appear as if you were biased towards Kobe.

Anybody reading this can see who is being objective and who is not there is no need to go into that.

I think the simple fact you have reacted the way you have about me saying I am fed up with Kobe (which I’m not sure if I said that could you copy and paste it for me?) Says enough.

………they cant compete next year based on kobe making 24 mill? So they can not get free agents or continue to bring in young talent? Interestgin, because i have seen countless seasons where kobe has made more or shaq has made more and we won. I guess we cant get anyone now because you said so. I have an idea, lets wait and see what happens, crazy i know.

—–you are rambling again. You ar eclearly hating on kobe. That is all ive ever said. You hate kobe, you are not a fan. You want to discrdit him. Your words prove this.

YOU have torn into kobe bryant and made it very clear you have disgust for him. YOU have shown no middle ground whatsover and have posted like a little girl fan boy letting his emotions getting the best of him.

Okay this is my last post on this matter.  If your world is so black and white that someone can’t be fed up and not hate Kobe then I feel sorry for you (rambling?).  Say I hate Kobe, I don’t care I know I don’t. I have supported the guy for 18 years and because I finally decide I am fed up with him I hate him? Fuck you. (Rambling?)

Really? Youre going to throw out champion years Kobe and Shaq when they were making that kind of Money in their PRIMES and compare it to a 36 year old with over 18 years of NBA wear and tear on his body AND just coming off one of the most devastating injuries an NBA player can have (rambling?)? That screams Kobe troll just like all of your other posts which are filled with what I said (rambling?).  People can read on this site I assume that’s how they ended up here.  Why don’t you spare us reading things twice and provide some actual intelligence? (Rambling?). But no you just (rambling) say rambling after anything you can’t dignify with a "you hate Kobe" answer. (Rambling).

If it makes you feel better to call it hate so be it. But I don’t hate Kobe.  Doug Christie I hate… Kobe I’m tired of. There is a difference (rambling).  Judging by the negs I will again say its obvious who is being objective (rambling) and who is not.  Farewell Kobe fan number 1. (Rambling)?

thank you for admitting you are rambling

i dont really care what you say about defending him, your posts consistently state the exact opposite. You in your very own words come off as hating him. Its not me painting you at all, anyone who reads your posts is going to think you hate him. You painted yourself.

I never compared prime anything to todays anything. Nice reach there. i said the lakers can build around kobe making 49 mill for 2 years just as they have in the past. Him making that does not mean all is lost and they cat noy sign any one. If you do not understand that, then maybe sticking your head in the sand would be better since you do not know how money works.

I reposted things you said becasue you consistently contradict yourself. Thats why you dont like me repeating you, becasue you know when you say how your a big kobe fan and then i repea where you said you hope he never wins again it makes you look dumb.

And lol at bringing up negs/plusses. Like that has anything to do with an arugment. Dont get caught up in that stuff. It doesnt make you right or wrong.

You said Kobe and Shaq won championships making that kind of money. Well they only won those in their prime didn’t they? So yes that’s exactly what you said whether you are too dumb to see it or not.

No me hating Kobe would look something like this "I hate Kobe".  Use your copy and paste magic to find where I said that please?  Again for your simpleton mind, I am fed up with Kobe, I’m ready to move on, I will applaud him on his way out for what he has done.  Please copy and paste where I said I HATE him?

Learn something about money? Lol ohhh kid.  If you knew anything about the salary cap you word see how crippling that contract is.  Clearly you don’t.  Kobe is worth every penny in your eyes.  We don’t even know if Kobe will be the same let alone put up 20 ppg.  If he doesn’t it becomes exponentially hard to build a winner when 33% of the cap is tied up to that kind of production.  Again you can’t see this with the blinders on but it is obvious to those that don’t have them.

How have I contradicted myself? I stated things about Kobe I don’t like. I stated that I am ready to move on and you took it to I hate Kobe when I never said that.  Why haven’t you copy and pasted that yet? Because I never said it.

Negs don’t mean anything that is one thing we agree on apparently, but they do reflect what people who have no stake in the conversation think.  Objectivity is a pretty complex concept.  I don’t expect you to understand.

And bro we are both rambling. I just don’t need to point it out because I have substance.  I provided opinions and a few facts.  While you simply copy and paste and say I hate Kobe.

And I don’t like you repeating me because its a waste.  Like I don’t remember what I said or couldn’t reference it if I did forget just as quickly as you could?  Have I walked back on anything I said? Then why is it worth repeating.  Its because you don’t have &$#%#&@! to say that isn’t "I’m not only a Kobe fan but you hate Kobe".

However your comment before that you did make shit up.  Go back and source where I said to cut Kobe?  Again I wasn’t talking to you.  You’re a Kobe fan through and through.  I am a Lakers fan though and through.  I don’t see what the big deal is about that, unless of course you are a Kobe fan.

i mentioned jim buss. kobe doesn’t like him but that shouldn’t matter. jerry buss built the franchise. jim buss was lucky to inherit the franchise at the time he did. any gm would have taken chris paul in that trade that never happened a few years ago. other than that, he hasn’t let mitch kupchak do his job. i never said i hate jim buss. he is going through growing pains though, and these growing pains have been the biggest problem with the lakers. i’m not saying he can’t help turn the lakers around, but the recent track record has been the problem.

You think the NBA cares that the Lakers are paying Kobe that much money??  Like they are jealous?? Nobody would have paid him that giving the circumstances.  The rest of the league is laughing at the Lakers not envious of them.

Crippling the Lakers salary cap situation for the next few years…. really proving a point there.

ever since the veto, lakers management won’t ignore it. it’s not about what the league thinks. it’s how the lakers management chose to react to it. it’s a risky political move that may or may not pay off.

Do you also consider what he might be doing? The man is still rehabbing from his most recent injury first of all. He went to Germay a little while ago to get preventive medicine. As far as I know, he is doing everything and anything he can to come back next season and EARN each and every cent of that 25 million contract which he by the way DESERVES over the years thru service and dedication to the Lakers’ organization. Point taken, he is not on the bench cheering his teammates on on a ‘lost’ season but really, what’s the point of it? Time is gold. I am sure he is not on his ass eating shit. This man is the most dedicated basketball player bar none. He is working his ass off to get back to the form where he needs to be- elite. You look at it at a performance level, I’d say 30 million for all those years that was compounded? I’d say it was just fine. Now, check back to be in reality: the business world. This is a business, after all, sports entertainment. How many damn people know this man locally, ney, INTERNATIONALLY? When he was suppose to play for the first time this season, a network decided to put it up as a nationally televised game, you know how much money people want to invest into that just to see a living legend play? Think of tickets being sold, merchandise and ads that the Lakers generate with him just having his jersey on. Nobody wanted to watch the Lakers (see removed nationally televised games) because frankly, there is nothing to be excited about until this man dons his jersey.

All valid points and thanks for making a sensible argument.  If there was no cap. Yeah you pay Kobe whatever you can, but since there is I don’t know how you can justify commuting 33% of the cap to him in this situation.  You also have to forgive me for thinking "being generous " to someone after you have already paid them over 200 million in their career isn’t exactly priority 1.

I say 15 mil would have been a big enough thank you to Kobe.  But you guys want to insist it is justified to give him that extra 20 mil when the guy has made over a quarter billion dollars in his career? Its a bad contract bottom line.

And you know who was the most popular team in the league before Kobe? The Lakers. Who will be the most popular team in the league after Kobe? The Lakers.  They weren’t on TV this year and people weren’t because their players are awful.  Nor because Kobe wasn’t playing.  That’s just KOBE fans who don’t watch.  I watched almost every game this year and even made it to a few.  That’s what fans do.

To be fair, the Lakers didn’t have to overpay Kobe on his last contract as an act of repsect or tribute to what he did for the franchise; the guy’s been the highest paid NBA player for who knows how long?  I’m not saying he’s not worth what he got, only that what he’s gotten over his career is more than enough to warrant respect for what he’s done for the franchise.  If they truly wanted to win, they could have reached a compromise that would allow them more cash to spend during free agency.  If the extra money Kobe got ends up spoiling his dreams of another championship, I sure hope that extra money was worth it to him.

He kind of let his emotions get out of hand when having a discussion on the topic, which makes your statements less valid and seem like you’re an irrational person. You’re not going to win an argument when you call the person an idiot and start saying they’re dumb. That’s childish. Some points he made that kinda got lost are:

    1) Kobe having the big contract. It’s not Kobe’s fault the Lakers offered him all that money while he’s on the decline of his career (or who knows, maybe Kobe whined for more money in the negotiations). However, he shouldn’t complain about having a lack of good teammates and the Lakers lacklustre play as those problems could be solved if he took less money for the teams sake. Other players are doing this (big 3) to increase their chances of winning. Plus, does Kobe really need any more money?

    2) Being a Laker fan but not a Kobe fan. This one got misunderstood, but is a valid point that is quite related to bandwagon fans. He states he was a Laker fan before Kobe and will be one after he leaves (I.e. Laker fan). Other people became Laker fans due to Kobe being there and will stay Laker fans after he leaves (I.e. Kobe and Laker fan). Others only cheer for the Lakers due to Kobe being there, and once he leaves and the Lakers don’t have a star they’ll move onto another good team with a star to follow to cheer for, like OKC with Durant (I.e. Kobe fan, or in a more broad term, bandwagon fan). Jordan fans are still probably Bulls fans, so they’d fall under category 2. But then there’s all those Lebron fans (like all of my stupid friends) who were huge Cavs fans who denied they were bandwagon fans. Then he went to the Heat and all of a sudden these people are Heat fans. Those are bandwagon fans that fall under category 3. I dislike those type of people. So when he was questioning what kind of Laker/Kobe fan you are, I think he was basing it off of these 3 types of categories.
