    Knicks:

Iman Shumpert was out there, and he got to handle the ball much more than he usually does for the Knicks. He was the Georgia Tech Shumpert. Wild and erratic. He played some of both guard spots, and really was inefficient. He missed all of his shots and had 5 assists and 4 turnovers. He is still an active defender who can make things happen, but he still is more effective offensively when he has his touches limited. He’s said to only be playing to improve his pg skills though, so there isnt a whole lot to take from this and he still will be be a key cog in the Knicks rotation on the wing.

Tim Hardaway Jr. had a decent game overall I think, showed his strengths and weaknesses. He is a confident jump shooter, and he stuck the 1st shot he took in the game today. He missed all but 1 of his 6 3’s, but he has a good shot and he probably was adjusting and getting rid of the jitters. He also had a nice alley-oop. Solid athlete and looks pretty good physically, seems to have NBA level strength. Ball-handling ability is lacking and needs to improve, he has a loose handle and rarely gets to the rim off the bounce, especially not under control. His defense wasn’t bad though. He probably will be a rotation player for the Knicks, and he might be able to guard both wing spots in time in the NBA.

CJ Leslie went undrafted, fairly surprisingly, but he was out there for NYK. He had a quiet 7 points, and showed all of the same things that we knew about him in college. He’s a bit of a floater as a player, and it made matters more magnified because he started the game at SF. He definitely is better as a PF, and this game kinda showed it. He’s still very athletic and fast, but his handle and jumper are crude for a wing. He also is a below average free throw shooter, and made only half of his 6 from the line. He might have a chance to make the Knicks roster (he might have signed a 1 year deal, cant remember) but he’s best as a PF.

Jeremy Tyler was out there too and he played good in the 2nd half. He’s very big and pretty physical as a 6’11 250 or so C. He was great on the offensive glass and he has a soft touch. He was a little foul prone and he’s still piecing the mental, physical, skill part together, but he has some potential still.

Chris Smith, JR Smith’s brother, was out there too. He seems to be healed from his knee inury and looked pretty good athletically from his recovery. He struggled from the field, but he is a passable offensive talent and he competes. He isnt a special player, but the Knicks like him.

    Pelicans

Austin Rivers looked really good today. He played a lot of time at PG and his skills from that spot look improved. He was less selfish in the pick and roll game than I ever seen him, and he kept his head up and found the open man well. He still scored great too, he got to the rim extremely well and finished and hit his jumpers too. Rivers handles well and has a great 1st step, I think last season was a wake up call for him and he looks to be improved. Looked confident. He looks like he might take the step into being a more effective player in the Pelicans rotation. He still needs to work on his fundamentals on both ends though, especially as a shooter.

Little Brian Roberts played OK. He’s still limited a bit by his below average size/strength, more so on defense, and he was bothered by Shumpert a bit offensively and struggled some with turnovers. He’s quick and feisty though.

John Brockman is a man on the glass and he’s very strong and stout, but he’s short, unathletic, and not that skilled. Physical on the offensive glass.

Darius Miller is physically gifted as a 6’7 230 wing, and he made a few jumpers today. Doesn’t show much ball-handling ability really, but he moves without the ball well and is a decent athlete. Will have to fight to be in the Pelicans rotation

I wouldn’t say he’s overly skilled… I’ve seen him throw down some nasty dunks though back in his uw days

Brockman is athletic for a normal human being but not for a NBA player. He is a gritty below the rim hustler

I really liked Rivers in this game. He was great in the P&R. HIs strength is clearly better. He also hit players in scoring situations at a high rate. His jumper looked alright, after last year’s shaky shooting numbers.

I think he needs to refine his freethrow motion though. I know he has a funky jumpshot, and his FT motion mirrors that. But i wouldn’t mess with his jumper. His freethrow is a totally different thing. He’s never going to shoot well from the line with that funky release. He shot about 55% i think last year.

Brockman is an athletic beast, but he knows he’s a 6’6” power forward and is way more effective using his strength and lower center of gravity than he would be trying to jump over people.
