treytalkssports.comParticipantPer Chris Herring (a fortress in the NBA journalism business?), the Knicks offered Amare Stoudamire, Tim Hardaway Jr., and Iman Shumpert to the Wolves for Kevin Love. The Wolves surprisingly turned it down.
I know that we are talking about Phil freaking Jackson and his NBA jedi tricks, but seriously Phil?
This trade seems like something a Knicks fan would post on this forum.

Chilbert arenasParticipantWolves have already gotten better deals from the Cavs and Warriors, allegedly, but that is the best offer the Knicks have to offer so gota give them credit for trying. Also some think Hardaway Jr. is going to be a star so in that case it’d make some sense.

ExumInfernoParticipantThe Knicks could clear away every bad contract the T-Wolves have, by sending Amare and even Bargnani as well.
Not sure how many draft picks the Knicks have to trade, so the only other young assets are Hardaway and Shumpert, and Larkins too.
Knicks fans should be happy that they are trying to use Amare’s big expiring deal in a trade, it is one of the few ways they can add another big star. But the Cavs and Celtics and other teams have more young assets to try to get K Love.
Dalembert for defense, Anthony for scoring, Love and Calderon for outside shooting, if the trade did happen then New York would have an interesting team that sort of works with Anthony. The late in the game lineup could be Love, Anthony, Smith, Prigioni, Calderon.

MopgrassParticipantEven if it happened (though it can’t), I’m not sure other stars want to join a team with Carmelo Anthony. Other stars want to touch the ball too. Phil is building around a franchise player who deserves top billing, but it’s going to be socially difficult to pull off unless he builds through trades and the draft (which he has done so far).

doubledribblerParticipantI think Minnesota would do the deal if NY could throw in a time machine or the car from back to the future.

joecheck88ParticipantThe thing is that the Wolves are hamstrung. No team needs to make a huge offer because they need to trade him to get something or they risk losing him for nothing. I think that is why nothing is happening. The Knicks made that offer and I’m guessing they would do it without a guarantee of Love resigning.
The Wolves need to move him. They aren’t doing better than a bottom seed playoff team and I’m not sure that’s enough to keep Love in town.

treytalkssports.comParticipantNormally that is the case when superstars want to leave a team. But in this case, there is a team that is as desperate to get him as they are to trade him. The Cavs feel pressure to enter "win-now" mode and contend for a title, and Kevin Love is their ticket.
Because of that, I think the Wolves are in, quite possibly, the best position any team that has to trade away their superstar could possibly be. What more could you want than Andrew freaking Wiggins? I’m not saying he will for-sure be a superstar, but he is still the best prospect to enter the NBA since Anthony Davis. The Cavs can get Wiggins to put butts in the seats, Bennett is fill in as a stretch power forward, first round picks, and possibly Dion Waiters or another piece.
That package by far trumps the package that the Knicks gave the Nuggets for Melo, the Celtics gave the Wolves for Garnett, or the Lakers gave the Magic for Howard. I honestly cannot think of a more even superstar trade, even though the Cavs get the best player, and ipso facto, also win the trade.

joecheck88ParticipantCavs aren’t giving up Wiggins and GS not gonna give up Thompson. So no, they aren’t in a great situation. Teams know they have to deal him or lose him. They aren’t going to give up the house for him. If Wiggins was on the table this deal would’ve been done already.

Slam DunkParticipantThere’s a reason Chicago’s offer hasn’t been taken yet, and it’s a nice one (Gibson, Mirotic, and McDerdermott, according to Sheridan). There’s also a reason Cleveland got the assets they did from Houston so they could get the contracts to match with Minnesota. The Wolves are in an excellent position to field offers. With all due respect, when these packages are reported from multiple souces at ESPN, the Minneapolis Tribune, and the Chicago Sun-Times and Tribune, you have to think they have legs to them. Personally, I still think the Bulls have a shot, but I think it was a good idea for their owner to give the Wolves a time-limit to decide.

Slam DunkParticipant…that what changed everything was LeBron’s desire to play with Love. That moved Cleveland from a "let’s see how we develop" mode to a "we want to win sooner than later" mode. They know they have to please LeBron and prove to the fans that they are serious about winning and keeping their new super star happy.
When they moved on trying to acquire Love, his value went up. Chicago lost out on Melo, saw what Cleveland was about to become, and had to make a substantial offer themselves. The Wolves suddenly are bargaining from a position of power.

joecheck88ParticipantThe Bulls offer is ok, Gibson is good but he came into the league at 24. He’s almost 30 and will be a solid auer the rest of his contract. McDermott I like a lot but he’s a role player and Mirotic could be good. That offer isn’t spectacular. I don’t think Cleveland is giving up Wiggins. I think Lebron sees the bigger picture. He had to be the man and carry Miami on both sides of the court and he couldn’t do it.
I’ve stated it before, Cleveland is just as good now and they would be with Love this year. Every year after they will be better. Lebron would rather have a bunch of young athletic guys to help at defense than one more guy that can make shots. Lebron rather have a team that goes 9 deep than one that’ll go six deep and rely on him to guard everyone.

Slam DunkParticipantLove just threw a wrench into Minnesota’s machinary. Going into this weekend, the Wolves were playing Chicago off Cleveland. Minnesota was just playing one team against the other.
Now, they are reporting a new twist. If the reports are true and Love says he’ll only sign with Cleveland, Minnesota suddenly loses the baraining chip LeBron created. Now, Chicago can’t be used as well and the advantage shifts to Cleveland. This could get interesting.
Stephen A. Smith and Fox Sports are now reporting that Love is saying he will only sign next year with Cleveland. They are now reporting that Love’s new statement will probably change the package that had been discussed, as the Wolves just lost their leverage in negotiations and the Bulls can’t be used the way they were. This, of course, would change everything and swing the advantage to Cleveland.
If you’re a Cleveland fan, you’re dancing in the streets. If you’re a Wolves fan, you want to punch Love in the face.
