Klay Thompson has been looking awful and lost. He is still an amazing defender but he is shooting barely 20% from the 3pt line and he only makes about 1.6 3’s per game. Do you think he is feeling like he’s the third or fourth wing and lost his confidence? Is it because Kevin Durant has taken his shots ? you would think he would be open all the time with 3 deadly shooters on the court at the same time.
Do you guys think he will turn it around this season? or is Klay going to be looking to leave in the future?

      Embiid – 67% 3pt

      Wiggins – 55% 3pt

      Shumpert 54 % 3pt

I guess these 3 are the best 3pt shooters in the league…. 🙂

        Lol @ negs.

A few savvy users have realised the easiest way to get +1’s is to piggyback off my comments and mocking me.

Kinda like how Skip Bayless makes a living $hitting on Lebron. Yet…who is it really a reflection on?

The curious thing is that the only time I dont get negged is when I make jokes about overweight women.

Therefore I’m convinced the dozen-or-so serial neg-givers are bigtime chubby-chasers.

Klay Thompson looks like hes not comfortable.. Ive noticed a couple of times watching Golden State that he will catch the ball and hesitate a bit or his footwork is funky and trys to reposition by that time its too late to get a good look because the defense will recover..

And Comparing Exums 3pt% to Thompsons is unfair.. Exum takes 2 threes a game oppose to Thompsons 7.5

I still think he was the one guy who wasn’t recruiting KD on the team. I don’t think he thought they needed KD. I think Thompson thought they could have tken the Cavs this year without him.

      I agree completely.

Klay isn’t the type of guy who is going to be ok being a third option in an offense.  He even said this offseason that he wouldn’t sacrafice shots just because KD signed with the team.

I had a thought, and I’m not sure how to round it out, but if New Orleans keeps losing, what about Klay as the main peice in a trade for Anthony Davis.  Obviously more would have to go back to NO, but it’s an interesting thought.  Davis solves the team’s interior defense problem pretty quick.

He can’t catch a rhythm because Durant is getting the looks and touches that he used to get. He’s been downgraded to a third scoring option and he’s someone who needs the ball in his hands as often as a 1st or 2nd option player.

Do you think he will want to get traded because of that? or is there a chance that they will start putting everything together and he will start getting the shots he used to get last year?

I love the "he’s been downgraded to the third scoring option" bit.

So how does that go in game prep…Kerr walks in, tells Durant he’s the first option. Tells Curry he’s the second guy. And then waltzes on over to Thompson, says listen Klay, I love ya. I love the swag. Love your pops. And you’re great. But for now…we’re going to have you as our third option. The dreaded third option. If KD and Steph can’t get a shot, we’ll give it to you as a last ditch effort.

That’s not how basketball works people.

Yes, Thompson is going to have to adjust a little because Durant is on the team and he’s getting the ball in different spots. But I don’t think this is a "I’m used to being a great second option and now since I’m the third option I can’t shoot" thing. That’s just super lazy basketball analysis or it’s people listening way too much to Skip Bayless and Stephen A.

Thompson will be fine. He’s going to have to adjust and let the game come to him. It just seems like he’s forcing things right now and trying to stand out rather than letting his points come organically.

The Warriors are at their best when they are moving the ball. That means there isn’t a "first or second" option. The top option is the open guy. And Thompson is going to be open a lot. He’s just got to be patient and unselfish.

Hang on guy. Don’t downplay the analysis of scoring options. Its not a title. Its how the shoe fits. That doesn’t mean he can’t explode for a 40pt night. But its a fact that he isn’t getting as many touches as Steph and Durant and that will decrease his statistical output. My analysis is that as a result of this, he loses his opportunities to get into a rhythm with his jump shot.

That point isn’t a jab at his abilities. He’s actually one of my fav players from day 1. But upon the Durant signing, there is was this misconception that Durant was gonna take his 30ppg and add it to the Warriors’ already high scoring output. Thats not how basketball works. He may still get his 30, but at the expense of others. And some players like Klay are high volume shooters. More effective with more looks.

I can’t remember the exact players’ names but a team w/ 2 existing Sluggers signed Albert Bell – a HR hitting Slugger,

Everyone talked about how they would break Every record in the book. One of them had a great season, another had a good but not a special season & the other did nothing – this is just the way it goes – there is Only so many Home Runs to go around.

Basketball is no different – there is Only so much scoring that can be done & a team can only replicate a strength so often. Meaning if you Already have 2 of the greatest Shooters in the NBA – you NEVER try to add a 3rd b/c that is Already a strength.

When you add a 3rd you do Not exponentially get stronger – you reach a point of diminishing returns & one of the players who is a Strength becomes a mis-fit or a spare part.

And ultimately a team weakens itself in other areas. Golden State’s management was so busy patting themselves on the back that they failed to see this & it is Only going to get worse.

The day Golden State signed Durant I wrote on our local Lakers SB – Nation blog that teams like the Lakers, T-Wolves, Bucks & Sixers should  start Wooing Klay Thompson b/c in 2 years he’s going to Demand a trade….. Could you imagine Klay Thomspon playing for the T-Wolves w/ Dunn, Wiggins & KAT??? or how about Phila w/ Simmons, Embiid & Josh Jackson???

    Can anyone say Nightmare

I saw you post this before and I disagree that basketball and baseball are comparable at all. If 3 guys bat in 1 inning, they can all hit a home run. 3 guys can not all score in one possession in basketball. I feel that it is harder to keep the star’s stats on a basketball team because there is only 1 ball and guys will have reduced roles. So I agree that numbers will go down, but I disagree with your baseball comparison.

     @Musmatos

I totally get that. I don’t think all three guys are going to average the same number of points as they did. People who though Durant was going to get 30, Curry was going to get 30 and Thompson was going to get 22-25 are downright dumb.

That’s not how it works. I get that.

But Klay isn’t shooting well right now. That has nothing to do with raw points. He can average 18 points a game and do it while shooting better than he did putting up 22. That’s what I expect. I expect Durant to ultimately get his 24-28 on 18 shots a game because he is so efficient.

Thompson won’t score as much. That’s fine. Right now he’s just not shooting well though. That’s not a "second option vs third option" problem. It’s a "shooting slump" problem. Some of that probably has to do with comfort and that he’s not used to another guy on the floor getting as much attention and Klay seems to be forcing things to stand out. If he just lets his points come organically, he’ll be fine.
