If you have a top 10 draft pick you should at least get a starter on your team. If you have 5 x top 10 picks you should aim for 5 starters, sure you might get one dud but you should still get at least 4 starters on your team. That is quite realistic and expected.

    Pistons picks descending order:

    Johnson (8th), KCP (8th), Drummond (9th), Knight (8th), Monroe (7th)

    Kings picks

    WCS (6th), Stauskis (8th), Mclemore (7th), T-Rob (5th), Jimmer (10th)

For the Pistons, Johnson will more than likely develop into a starter so they have 5 from 5. For the Kings they virtually went 0 for 5. B-Mac could possibly only start for 2 or 3 teams in the league if he was lucky.

These players could easily fit together to make a team each:
pg- Knight, sg- KCP, sf- Johnson, pf- Monroe, c- Drummond
pg- Jimmer, sg-Mclemore, sf- Stauskis, pf- T-Rob, c- WCS

Now match these teams up in a playoff series and I think you would agree the Pistons would probably sweep the Kings 4-0.

If the Kings took the five players taken immediately after their picks they would have done better:

    Fredette – Klay Thompson

    Robinson – Damian Lillard

    McLemore – Kentavius Caldwell-Pope

    Stauskas – Noah Vonleh

    Cauley-Stein – Emmanuel Mudiay

they wouldn’t pick KCP if they had Klay; Mudiay when they have Lillard

What is the point of this thread, to dog the Kings? Do you have a life?

WCS is having a statistically better year than Johnson or Mudiay and I would take him over either

    McLemore and KCP? Negligible

Way to stop the year after Cousins was drafted

Pistons gave up knight/Monroe for nothing

T-Rob/McLemore were consensus picks, sometimes just luck

the Kings had bad management we get it, now let the new FO do its thing

The point was to show how team fortunes can vary so much depending on who you draft and who you can develop properly. I picked the last 5 picks:

      a) The pistons were in the playoffs and only went back 5 x top 10 picks, so I couldn’t go back any further than 5 picks
      b) 5-5 is easy to compare as it is a full starting line up vs a full starting line up.

The Kings other picks were Cousins, J Thompson, Ty Evans and Spencer Hawes

I like forum posters that live up to their usernames and pics.

You’d hardly expect Bill Lambeer to come on and start handing out compliments.

    It is what it is…

Keeping the good picks that become starters is important, so it is 3 to 2 for that score.

Drummond was a great pick, Detroit were very smart that year when other teams went silly.  WCS does have a lot of ability too, it may not be long before he and Drummond are among the top centers for blocks and rebounds.  Drummond is an All-Star now, but not sure WCS will be.

McLemore and KCP are both inconsistent.  Borderline starters, but they still have potential.

It is interesting to compare the teams, as one is built around Drummond and the other is built around Cousins in the middle, and they are taking a while to find the right pieces around them.

Are you saying drafting and developing talent is important to a team’s success?  Shocking.

You should do an article about how having good players increases your chances of winning.
