ZouldiersParticipantZach Lavine has agreed to an 4yr/80M offer sheet by the Kings. Bulls have 48 hours to match it. I doubt they match this because they are only willing to offer 14M per year so… yeah he’s gone.

festar35ParticipantI’m not matching if I’m Chicago.
Let him go and build with Markannean. Give Kris Dunn more opportunity to score the ball, they get their real return for Butler in Markannean.

Dazzling Dunks and Basketball BloopersParticipantI had a feeling Kings would reach on either Lavine or Jabari Parker. But 20 mil over 4 years seems like a massive overpay. I doubt Chicago will match. As a matter of fact, this will probably clear room for the Bulls to make Parker a significant offer.

r377ParticipantI dont know that i love this for the Kings.
They have alot of new players together – Fox, Hield, Jackson, Giles, Bagley. Thats half their team that haven’t had a full season together.
I think they should of seen how it goes this season, then add a good FA next season.
He came off of injury, $20 mill per season is quite alot

SmooveKRYPTParticipantThey have another $40 million in expirings coming off the books after this season, so this doesn’t prevent them from adding another FA next summer. They’re acting on a guy they like in a market where there’s no competition, compared to next summer when many more teams will have cap room.
Not saying it isn’t an overpay, but when have Vlade and Vivek made sensible moves?

CU.LIONSParticipantBad teams stay bad.
Good for Boston though.

marcusfizer21ParticipantThe Bulls will match this. No way they let him walk after a year. They will basically would have traded Jimmy for nothing.

marcusfizer21ParticipantIt’s not about winning for Chicago at this point. Might as well put some asses on those seats at the United Center. Zach LaVine can give us highlight reels. He’s a marketable player…not to mention he’s only 22. Bulls will match this. I will be very surprised if they didn’t.

BKGingerSnapParticipantLaVine will still only be 23 next season and considering how spectacular of an athlete was before the ACL tear, I think he will still be a plus athlete in the barring any more major injuries. I think its a reasonable gamble by Sacramento. They’ll have plenty of cap space next year when randolph, shumpert, Koufos and Temple come off the books. A Fox/LaVine back court would very fun to watch and this is a team without a pick next year so I think is Vlade’s best move since the Bogdan trade.

Taylor Gang MikeParticipantBulls just matched

RUDEBOY-ParticipantThey had to match. Didn’t make sense no to. He was the centerpiece of the Butler trade.

BothTeamsPlayedHardParticipantIt is an overpay, but the first two years won’t matter financially. The Bulls have plenty of cap space for this coming season, and then Holiday, Grant, Payne Lopez, and all but $3 million of Asik get cleared off after 2019. They will still be able to hunt for a couple stars. It won’t be until Dunn and Markkanen are up for second deals will the overpay matter. The bigger concern is that he doesn’t seem to be someone who fit. Both visually and by the numbers, he was awful when sharing the court with Dunn and Markkanen. This came immediately after a stretch where the Bulls played exceptionally well, and their vision of Dunn, Markkanen, Portis, et al seemed to come together. It was a small sample, LaVine was coming off an injury, and they didn’t have a preseason to get acquainted, but it is a legit concern. If come February they still look unable to play together, will they be able to move him?

ZouldiersParticipantBulls Matched it wow.

BKGingerSnapParticipantIf I was Vlade, I’d light a marlboro red and immediately offer marcus smart 4years 60 million. The Celtics would think long and hard about preventing Smart from ruining that pick swap but if they match you atleast forced them to overpay marcus smart a year early, forced them to pay a repeater tax this year barring trade and mess up their salary plans for next year.

GBeeParticipant20 mill for a losing player huh. At least he’ll be on board to drive the tank for the duration of his contract. The Bulls were expected to suck immensely for at least 5 years after they flipped Jimmy so this contract is right in line with that time line. I’m just hoping the contract is front loaded so it’ll have more value towards the end of it.
They’ll be in a similar situation with Dunn too soon and he sucks as well. Wish they would’ve taken a guard. If given a similar opportunity to succeed or fail, I think both Holiday and Okobo will eventually be better players. Oh well, with these 2 as the starting backcourt at least the Bulls will be guaranteed to be in the lotto, so hopefully they’ll get lucky and be in a position to draft real backcourt cornerstones instead of these 2.

HitsterParticipantThe contract wasn’t huge for a guy of his upside and who has successfully returned from injury, so it made sense they matched. Plus they will have future cap space so that helped too.

nath09ParticipantPretty harsh reactions to this contract. I’d say I could assemble 50 worse contracts without even considering this one. That obviously is barring an horrific injury.

Andv1 WaitingParticipantI don’t know if this was the Kings being the KANGS or they were actually being smart for a change…
If the Kings were being smart they were trying to make the Bulls use some of their cap room up for 2019 and onwards…Making them have less competiton if they want to go after F.A’s
But if it was the Kings being KANGS and trying to get anothe SG when they clearly don’t need one: Buddy Hield,Bogdon and Fox in Spurts(if you don’t believe he is a P.G)..
However the Bulls sort of played themselves again.. They let the market set the Price which is a double edged sword or You offend your player but you may get away with not paying the max which what the player may have thought they would get…But you could also be forced into giving the Max when they sort of don’t deserve it..
But overall the Bulls did a good not great move as Lavine is that has the tools player but doesn’t fully have the I.Q part down..As he has some lapses at times..He however does fit their current core sort of.
