This was an interview after the game. Kidd-Gilchrist: ‘I’m not going nowhere. I’m staying at Kentucky.’ after the reporters laughed at him he said, “I don’t know why y’all laughing” After what happened last year, I dont want you guys to bring up the “After he see’s a million dollars in his face, he’ll change his mind.” Lets face it, Gilchrist will play NBA Basketball and will have a chance to make millions. He’s a good guy and loves Kentucky. What makes him different from guys like Perry Jones, Harrison Barnes, or Jared Sullinger? Im not buying the whole 4 years thing but I wouldnt be surprised if he stayed another year. What about you guys?

Chilbert arenasParticipantI’ll believe it when I see it but he seems like the kind of kid who enjoys college. I don’t know how much it will help though. In my opinion his biggest weakness is his shooting and more time in college might hurt his stock in that sense. Maybe he can convince Teague to stay who needs another year more than MKG.

akhan786ParticipantDuke fan…but MKG is my favorite college basketball player this year.
Everything I love in a player; humility, toughness, hustle, athleticism, and this guy just wants to win. Any NBA team would be lucky to have him.
I hope he ends up at the Cavs, who need a wing to pair with Kyrie. Irving and Gilchrist played together in highschool at St. Pats so there should already be chemistry between the two.
Where do you guys think he fits best?

BiggysmallsParticipantWell if he said he’s not going nowhere, then why are we making any fuss at all. That would mean he’s going somewhere, which is what everybody has predicted. But he followed that by saying he’s staying at Kentucky…which doesnt make sense if he’s not going nowhere. You cant go nowhere and stay in the same place.
Perhaps he should stay and take English 110

Mr. 19134ParticipantTaylorMike I like you man but plz don’t ever in your life put Corey Brewers name in the same sentence as MKG again. AJA (all jokes aside) I do understand the similarities MKG is better not then Brewer was during the Final Four MVP run. Also MKG is stronger now then Corey is right now in the NBA.
I’m having a tough time placing MKG’s potential, I think it could possibly be thru the roof, but he needs to become a better shooter. But he has a nice scoring touch so I think he will become one. Remenber Wallace and Iggy couldn’t shoot a lick when they got in the league.
TaylorGMike I know you remenber Iggy his first few years in Philly that guy was a nightmare shooting. But he said his goal was to become a better 3 point shooter then Korver and finally 8 years in the league, he’s not a better, but he’s respectable from 3 lol. I think MKG’s floor is G. Wallace and his ceiling especially if he stays is in school another year is more like I dunno he’s so unique but his ceiling is def NBA All Star and all defensive team.
@Arkham you think MKG is a perfect fit in Cleveland. Cuz I was just talking about on my other thread how I’m in a dead lock between drafting Bread Beal, Jeremy Lamb, or MKG to compliment Kid Kyrie. I take my 2k serious and literally edited every single player in the league and the draft classes down to a tee so they all play realistically, and they’re ratings are what I projected them to be in the league.
But I’m think Beal or Lamb would be a better fit cuz they work better off the ball and with their shooting ability will space the floor for Kyrie and open up driving lanes. Plus in real life MKG won’t be around when the Cavs pick most likely especially if he stays a year he’s gonna be a top 5 lock.

akhan786ParticipantWhat do you guys think of the Cavs sitting Kyrie some games down the stretch so they can jockey for better draft position?
I’m in the camp of win win win and see if the core of Kyrie, Thompson, and Gee can get some experience in the playoffs, but I can definitely see the other point of view because based on just raw talent the Cavs rank near the bottom of the league if you exclude Kyrie.
0 - Posted on: Sat, 02/25/2012 - 2:35pm #641327

Mr. 19134ParticipantYeah I agree because even with cap room they can’t keep free agents in Cleveland let alone get them to come there.
So their best bet for the future would be to play tight games and find ways to lose it down the stretch because they need a huge talent boost. Although in this draft they could still get a steal such a Beal around the 10th or 9 pick.

Lotto StudParticipantIf there is one, I come to you now! to pray that he will return. I am a firm believer, of the phrase "it shall come to pass" and if it weren’t heaven sent today, I would have never personally met a close associate of his today, in Cherry Hill, NJ.
The STARS will align!

PlatypusParticipantMy top 5 teams i’d like to see him on, and my next year projected rosters with him on it
1. Dallas, I’m predicting that they will sign D12 and D-Will. They will pretty much have to cut there entire team and he would be great defender in the west
D-Will – (Roddy Buckets Trade) – MKG – Dirk – D12
2. Lob City, he would be a great fit on this team and Butler is up there in age
Paul – Billups – MKG – Griffin – Jordan
3. Atlanta, Marvin Williams is not the answer, but can start until MKG figures it out
Teague – Johnson – MKG – Smith – Horford
4. Houston, there small forward situation is a joke and he would be a great fit
Lowry – Martin – MKG – Scola – Dalembert (pending no trades)
5. Detroit, Prince needs to be dealt to a contender, Jerebko is a great energy bench player but not the future small forward, and Austin Daye has been a dissapointment.
Knight – Stuckey – MKG – Jerebko – Monroe

Taylor Gang MikeParticipantyeah true. i do think he can be Iggy, i jus see allot of Gerald and Brewer, bcuz i remember when everyone was saying great things about Brewers toughness and he needed to work on his jumper, same stuff wit MKG.. i think people think MKG is tougher than he is, if he gets weight then he will be a beast. If he gets a jumper i can see him bein a Caron Butler player
0 - Posted on: Sat, 02/25/2012 - 3:09pm #641344

akhan786ParticipantThat’d be nice but it is highly unlikely that Dallas, LA, Atlanta, and Houston will be able to draft MKG since they’re all in the playoffs.

M-DYMESParticipantIf you are guaranteed lotto pick $$$$$, IMO it is foolish to stay. (my 0 key is breakin d0wn) Injury risks, your another 365 days 0lder which 4 s0me reas0n makes u less valuable in the eyes 0f sc0uts, p0tnetially better pr0spects next year, and what cant u learn at the NBA level that u can in c0llege,
0 - Posted on: Sat, 02/25/2012 - 3:33pm #641354

Mr. 19134ParticipantHe could be a Caron Butler type in terms of scoring ability, but he’s a way way way better defender then Butler, and is a better rebounder. Iggy is the most obvious comparison and although I think MKG has more scoring potential then Iggy. And MKG is really strong right now.
And how in the world would these playoff teams acquire MKG?
I think he’d be perfect glue guy in Sac Town, Washington, Milwaukee, …hell he can literally fit on any team.
And Barnes is a better player for coming back and his draft stock has actually risen. Just look at his numbers. He’s a much much much better shooter then last year, has better handles, and is just an all around better scorer then he was last year. He’s averaging more points in less minutes.
You guys look too much into stats and draft position the bottom line is everybody who came back has gotten better as a player.
Sullinger lost weight, is better conditioned, and has extended his shooting range.
Terrence Jones is a better defender, and has become a much more efficient scorer.
And PJ3 has added weight, improved his handles, and added to his offensive arsenal.
They’re numbers don’t reflect it because they play at schools who continue to replenish their ranks with high recruits who need time and shots too, unless you look at the efficiency and FG%, but every one of these players are much better prepared for the league then they were a year ago.
These guys wanna go to the league and make an instant impact no come off the bench, so by staying another year to work on their game more they have a way better shot at doing that now.

Lotto StudParticipantI agree to a certain extent, but has it pondered to you, he may be staying to work on that public speaking, many on the site have bashed him for?
I want to favorite this thread so bad, for motivation to align.

0 - Posted on: Sat, 02/25/2012 - 4:07pm #641365

HitsterParticipantMKG should be a top 10 pick whenever he declares so if he wants to return and have another year under Coach Cal then that’s not really an issue As a Phoenix fan he’d be high on my draft wish list if we didn’t get a top 3 lottery pick, he may be touted to go before we pick but maybe we could trade up for him.
Like Harrison Barnes, he fits so well into a large number of potential teams.

Lotto StudParticipantPlease do not have a guilty pleasure, just yet. Do not find it in your heart to deprive his education. What will come, will come to pass. It is already written. You may never know, what he is going through personally. His father may have wanted him to continue greater depths, versus testing them.
0 - Posted on: Sun, 02/26/2012 - 3:24am #641480

McDunkinDamn..I had Jon Hood breaking out and having an All American like year with MKG gone
But Gilchrist shows alot of improvement for such a raw athlete. If he does stay and continue to improve the way he has he will be a #1 pick contender. If he hits a wall in his development he will slip but not far maybe top 5 – 11
0 - Posted on: Sun, 02/26/2012 - 3:29am #641482

HitsterParticipantMKG could move up the draft if he did return and become a possible top 3 pick next year, I don’t know about 2014 or beyond as it is impossible to predict who will be in the draft then.
But I agree with McDunkin that his downside would be very limited to the later reaches of the top 10 whenever he declares, so MKG could really make a decision based on purely what is best for him long term.
0 - Posted on: Sun, 02/26/2012 - 3:36am #641483

surveParticipantOn one hand, I would be surprised but not shocked if he returned, because he has had such a good year.
On the other hand, next year:
- he would be a top candidate for POY
- with a much improved jumper, his stock would increase
- he would put UK back in the hunt for the Final Four
- this year, its doubtful someone takes him in the top 5, but with a good season next year, he would almost be a lock for top 5
0 - Posted on: Sun, 02/26/2012 - 3:53am #641485

WizardofOzParticipantHe said he’s going to graduate! But seriously, I doubt he stays. Maybe for one more year? But definitely not all four years like he’s saying. And I’m sure Calipari will do his best to push him out the door.
0 - Posted on: Sun, 02/26/2012 - 6:42am #641506

akhan786Participant^^^I doubt Shabazz Muhammad commits to UK if Gilchrist is still there.
0 - Posted on: Sun, 02/26/2012 - 8:00am #641523

WrecklessParticipant@Surve
Its doubtful for Gilchrist to go top 5? Charlotte, New Orleans, Detroit, New Jersey, Washington, Sacramento and Detroit look like ideal fits. He is a top 5 lock this year.0 - AuthorPosts
