Everyone knows the situation of the T-Wolves starting to go younger and have great additions from this off season with Andrew Wiggins and Zach Lavine who ooze with potential. There is one problem though, veterans like Corey Brewer and Kevin Martin started at the wing positions last year and don’t seem to be invoilve in the Kevin Love deal.

Kevin Martin seems like the odd man out being a guy that can score and needs playing time, but would take away minutes from Wiggins and Lavine. It’d be best if he went to a playoff contender. What team would he fit best on?

The first option that popped into my head would be the Pacers to fill the whole that Lance left at SG and if they get Marion they could have again a solid starting 5 that would be good enough to make the playoffs in the East.

Second option would be the Griz. He would be that perimeter scorer that they have been lacking for the past few years

A big no to Martin, he doesn’t play defence and his contract is very similar to that of Hills not something Indiana need right now. Brewer would be a nice fit at the SF spot whilst George is out and that would allow Indiana to push Stuckey back to the bench as a back-up combo guard.

Minnesota needs PF’s and potential upside. Minnesota has too many SF’s.

Or not if he becomes inefficient. Look at Hayward in Utah; his role expanded but his percentages dropped.

Martin has never been inefficient. Father time is catching up, but he has put up around 20 points per 36 minutes with high efficiency for nearly his entire 10 year career (it took him his first two seasons to get going, but since then he has been clockwork). And since he plays what I consider the weakest position in the league, his efficiency has to drop pretty far before he becomes even as low as average for a SG.

I think Wiggins will play SF anyway. Brewer is they guy who will end up on the bench.

The Grizzlies would be a nice fit for Martin, as his shooting would help space the floor for the two bigs battling inside. He could play 2 guard in traditional lineups and slide over to the 3 in a quicker/shooting oriented lineup. The Pacers would be a nice fit also and Martin and Marion would help them fight for the 8 seed.A backcourt featuring George Hill and Martin scares me though; neither one is a threat running the pick and roll or to beat their man off the bounce and force the defense to react.

These are two good basketball fits that haven’t really been thrown around much; I like them and they are well thought out. Out of the two scenarios, Martin going to Memphis would make more sense. They have a 2-3 year window remaining with this core and Martin would definitely improve them, offensively at least. The 3 years and I believe about 24 million left on his contract wouldn’t kill them but may put them over the cap (we know how small market contenders feel about going over the cap cough*OKC*cough). I think the Pacers, if his contract were a year shorter, would be willing to take a gamble. Martin fits best next to a true point guard and Indiana just does not have one at the moment.

Maybe the Timberwolves and Pelicans could swap Martin and Eric Gordon. Gordon, who is still only 25, would make a nice 3 guard rotation with Ricky Rubio and Zach LaVine. At 2 years and approximately 29 million left on his contract, Gordon may be worth a gamble in Minnesota, especially if they are swapping Anthony Bennett for the proven Thaddeus Young. In New Orleans, Martin could play next to two creators/primary ballhandlers in Jrue Holiday and Tyreke Evans and free up some cap space to maybe keep Omer Asik around past this season.

Just throwing out ideas. I usually prefer not to speculate on information that hasn’t been reported, but most of us have heard/believe that Minnesota is looking to move Martin, so why not have a little fun?

I like I’ve said in other posts, we have to wait 10 more days and see who’s going where when this trade gets announced. Then I’m sure the Wolves will be making a few other trades to cleanup their roster before training camp. It nothing else keep Martin until the trading deadline, when teams are trying to make last minute moves. It’s not like he doesn’t have any value.

What about okc? Martin and a future first rounder for perry jones and Jeremy lamb. Martin and okc worked well in the short time they were paired up. A volume corner specialist coming off the bench.  Perry jones is on the wrong team and in the wrong situation. In minnesota he can compete to start.  And jeremy lamb could step up as the minny sg of the future.

To be honest as a twolves fan I would accept a late first rounder for him and nothing else. He doesnt really do anything to help the team rebuild and he is getting 7 million a year and is older. If anyone offers them an expiring contract and a first round pick they should accept the trade.

Would you take a massive expiring Joe Johson contract for Martin? The Nets should be heading toward having a nice passing lineup and JJ’s ball hogging is going to be the one piece that is going to clog things up. Those ball hogging ISO moves work, he is still one of the best at them, but they aren’t as good as great ball movement offense.

Hmm, Joe might have two more years. Never mind.
