valentineit just occured to me that this guy really shouldnt be a allstar. josh smith has actually played better then him this year including on the defensive end and has played in more games. the reason he is starting is because of popular votes but as far as his play is concerned he hasnt played like a allstar. just as a very good player. one reason i can understand why he should be on the team is because there arent a lot of good pf in the east

butidonthavemoneyIf there is one starter in the East who doesn’t deserve his spot, it’s Kevin Garnett.

GrandmamaParticipantYour post should have said “Fans shouldn’t be able to vote on players for the all-star game.” Since fans decide who they want to see, you’re wrong. Obviously there are better players not in the game, but fans vote for who they want to see. And that’s that.

BasketBalAllanParticipantThe only reason he deserves to be an All-Star is because he is who the fans want to see, if you look at his level of play this year compared to others in the NBA who are not playing in the game, he is definitely lacking, If he had not been voted in as a starter, then I would agree with you 100%, but since he has, I would lay the blame on the fans, and it’s hard to blame someone for liking a player.

quinceyhodgesi didnt say fans because i do think the coaches would have voted in garnett as well. you dont hear any anouncers, reporters etc saying he shouldnt be a allstar

BasketBalAllanParticipantThere lies the problem in the NBA with these types of situations, the coaches and others who vote for players in these games simply do not pay enough attention to the entire league, they focus mostly on the teams at the top or the really big names in the league or the draft.

quinceyhodgesthe salution is that the players should pick the reserves. i dont mind the fans picking since the game is mostly for them. maybe let them control 50percent of the players who will start and let the players control the or 50 or give the players the ability to veto

d-grizzlyParticipantyup, many others deserve a spot on the all star, but due to fan vote, you know how it goes.
I personally believe A.I shouldn’t be on the all star team either.

butidonthavemoneyI think the sarcasm in my first post wasn’t clear…
d-grizzly, you’re right. You said what my sarcastic face couldn’t through the computer screen.

ThaMatrixParticipantHow About Chris Bosh?
He Deserves it 10 times more then KG does.0 - Posted on: Wed, 02/10/2010 - 12:29pm #254666

sheltwon3Participanthow about this the all star game is all about the fans so continue the voting as such. I believe sports people should not value all star appearances as showing how great a player is when it is most based on popularity. Fans voting Garnett is not the problem, it is just that there is a value to all star appearances where it should not be anything. If fans wanted to see Josh Smith, he would have been voted in. Also i like the players vote the reserves instead of coaches rule. Coaches are suspect in their voting and i think players would keep it real instead of just voting for players on a top team or something like that. players know who they hate to have to guard and who they must double team and stuff.

quinceyhodgesi dont agree. vans tend to vote in players they see or hear about the most. you hear and see garnett alot more then josh smith. also since people have been voting for kg for so long on top of hearing about him and liking him for so long they will tend to continue to vote for him as long as his game hasnt gotten drastically bad

IndianaBasketballParticipantBosh should be starting and Smith should be backing him up… KG should be at home resting that knee.
It’s crazy to think about KG though… At the beginning of the season, I remember a post about him and Duncan still being top power forwards. They were both coming off of knee surgery… Most people predicted Garnett to still be among the league’s elite while Duncan would fall. It’s been the opposite.
I honestly don’t think KG will get back to that level of play we’re used to seeing.

Russell0WestbrookParticipantIt was people saying pau was the best and when I put duncan over pau I got killed people said I was crazy because kg was better than duncan. People just like him because he talks sh*t to the lil guy and soft guys. I’ve never seen garnett talk crazt to a guy known for being crazy for example when artest knocked him down he got up and went about his business. This guy is a joke now and gets too much credit he isnt even their best bigman anymore. This is about as bad as yao starting over shaq his rookie year. The vote should only be american votes!

IndianaBasketballParticipantThe voting should be for everybody… There are NBA fans all over the world.
They just need to tweak it a little bit. I think they should start letting fans, coaches and players vote. Each should count for a specific percentage of the total vote. I think that’d balance things out. It’s a shame the players don’t get to vote. Players probably know the most since they’re the ones who actually play.

IndianaBasketballParticipantAnd KG does always pick on the little guy. I’d like to see him talk crazy to Ben Wallace or Reggie Evans.

Russell0WestbrookParticipanthe’s scared he only picks on little guards and young guys. I was just saying their are lots of fan over the world but those foans vote for the player or players from their countries therefor taking votes from guys that could use them. Us as americans only vote for who weve known for a long time or the hot name. For this to be something on your resume when you retire and hall of fame consideration the fans should not vote because they play favorites. They should make the owners choose the players and the commish should make the ballot that way you cant vote for non deserving players (AI and KG)

OrangeJuiceJonesParticipantRemember when Garnett caught an elbow from Anthony Peeler? Or when he tried to bully Lamar Odom, and Odom wasn’t havin’ it? Good times…..
Anyways, Garnett probably shouldn’t be an all-star, but neither should Iverson. Unfortunately, that’s just the way it is. Maybe fans will get some common sense in the future.

quinceyhodgesthats not completely true. if it was there would probably be more euros at the all star game. im sure yi would probably be on the team as well. people who dont watch basketball much more then likely are gonna pick the guy they hear most about. its the same with politics in alot of cases. you look on aballot and see a person you have hear d of or sene the most and you vote for them if you havent been really following politics. i dont watch alot of baseball but if im at the mall and someone ask me fill out who i think should be a all star im sure id pick who ever ive heard of. id probably pick arod or a bunch of other yankes. as far as changing the all star ballot i think there will never be a perfect solution and the one we have now really isnt bad. there are a couple of slip ups but overall its not bad
