ChicagoCaseyParticipantI know this might not be the trendy pick to what Kevin Durant might do this summer, or next summer, but I believe the Celtics provide the perfect situation for Kevin Durant. The Celtics provide a great young coach, a very talented roster, great organizatoion, and future talent that can be added to their roster. Kevin Durant wants to be "the man" and also be on a championship team, the Celtics provide KD the oppotunity to be "the man" and be able to compete for the championship.
The trendy pick is him going to Golden State or the Lakers, but I don’t believe they are good fits for him as a player. He comes across as a guy that wants to be "the guy" on a championship team, the Warriors would not be able to provide him that because of Steph Curry. And he wants to win championships, the Lakers can’t offer him that due to the fact that we don’t know how exactly how good will D’angelo Russell, Jordan Clarkson, and Julius Randle might become. The best of both worlds will be the Celtics.
I always been on the KD2DC bandwagon because I would’ve like to see him go home and win a championship for the DMV. But, this franchise is disfunctional and don’t know how they want to play. One day they want to play small ball, the next they want to play big. One day they believe in the analytics, the next day they don’t. The only player they have that is worth building around is John Wall, the rest of the roster is either trash or injury prone (exeption to Kelly Oubre).
Another team that I believe that would be a fit for Kevin Durant, you might think I might be a homer for this pick, but the Miami Heat. They have a great young nucleus in Justise Winslow ( 19), Josh Richardson (22), Hassan Whiteside (26), and Tyler Johnson (23). They also have veteran pieces that a championship team needs in Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh, UD, Joe Johnson (wants to be back in Miami), and Josh McRoberts. I believe the Miami Heat can also provide what he seem to want; being the number one option and being part of a championship team.
What do you guys believe he will do? What other teams do you seem to believe will be a good fit? What do you guys think of my opinion?
Thx.

halfdecayedParticipanthow about thre raptors man? I said it months ago and still believe it’s a great destination for him.. He stated multiple times before that as a kid he was a raps fan and his dream was to be a raptor. . He could be the man in Toronto, and this would do wonders for canadian basketball.. As a canadian, I just hope he considers it.. I know it’s tough to attract big name free agent here, but Im still holding a little hope..

ChicagoCaseyParticipantI don’t feel the Raptors, man. So many things can go sideways with that team. Demar Derozan can leave this offseason to make more money, taxes is super high in Canada. Also, if he does stays, I don’t see a trio of Demar Derozan, Kyle Lowry, and Kevin Durant being a good fit. On paper it looks fantastic, but they all are ball dominate players and Kyle Lowry and Demar Derozan needs the ball to be successful. It fits the criteria for what I believe he is looking for, but I don’t see him fitting w/ that core and the coach is not very good.

I May Be WrongParticipantTo me, Miami is the not-so-dark horse. If they get Durant, I’d be shocked but not even that shocked. Pat Riley gets things done. His friends in the illuminati take care of him. Ask McDunkin when he sold his soul to Pat Riley for all of the draft.net points in summer ’07. Miami would be interesting and I give them like a 20%.
10% chance for the Wizards but that’s decreasing every day and even if they make the playoffs, getting in as an 8th seed with a roster that was expected to compete for a top 4 seed is still disappointing. For the love of pringles, can someone get this team a great coach!??
5% chance for the Lakers. That could change if, I dunno LeBron says he’ll go to LA too and they form a 1-2 punch without having to give up any young talent. But then again, aren’t my Sixers (loaded with cash and draft picks) the same thing? Plus closer to home?? Hmmmmmmmm .. yeah not counting on it.
Whatever percentage is remaining (Thanks Common CORE!) goes to OKC. More money point blank. I do think the amount he is leaving will be a factor. Not a major factor since he gets endorsements for everything but enough to make it a touch choice. Oh, and playing with another top 5 player doesn’t hurt either – despite the “struggles” they have. OKC is still my favorite.

HitsterParticipantBoston is a good call for KD, they are on course for 45-48 wins this season and adding KD to current roster should by default give you a 55 plus win team. Boston haven’t currently got a superstar but they have excellent role players who would support KD well too. They have loads of trade ammo to go and get another top player via FA if needed and still keep key support players in situ.
They would become an obvious location for good veterans wanting to play for a contender too so an experienced guy or two could be added to the bench if required.

Mr. HookShotParticipantBoston I could understand, Miami not so much. They have solid players but do not provide the upside that some of the other teams provide. But in reality I still believe Durant stays put, or will leave for the Warriors (if at all possible).

UncledrewParticipantWith kd Boston becomes a good team? Yes. A great team? maybe. A championship team? No. Yes it’s a good fit for Kd. He is the superstar they need with solid pieces to surround him. Bradley and Crowder are 2 of the best perimeter defenders in basketball Olynck and Sullinger are solid post presence and they have an allstar point guard in IT. The problem is there frontcourt isn’t overwhelming offensively and far from rim protecting on defense which you need on a championship team and Isaiah thomas is only an allstar for his offensive side of the game and highly vulnerable vs the Walls Lowrys or Irvings much less the barrage of point guards out west if they could get out the east. Long story short kd makes them a 55 win team which will compete for a top 3 seed in the east, but the nba champion in today’s game is something like a 73-9 far from 55-27.

ChicagoCaseyParticipantDisagree w/ your entire take on Boston. Yes, they don’t have the name appeal that you will like, but they have the system and players that are great for that system. They are currently 3rd in the much improved eastern conference w/ said roster. Boston is well coached and is one of the best defensive teams in the league. They are the 3rd ranked defensive team in terms of defensive efficiency.
This is a type of team that a Kevin Durant level player can push the team over the top and turn it into a championship team. Also, they have a great drafr pick that can turn into a player like Jaylen Brown, Brandon Ingram, Ben Simmons, and more. They have a fantastic core players that play well under Brad Stevens.
Also, this is only one year when it looks like a team that wins 70+ games will win a championship.

HazelParticipantI know this is sort of a non-starter because nobody of Durant’s stature has ever gone to Utah, but…
Elite defensive team that will be better defensively next year than this year.
Second youngest roster in the NBA.
Two all-star level players who are great team players in Favors and Hayward.
Best 2nd year shooter in the NBA in Hood.
Gobert.
Exum who is a great defender and should develop into a nice weak side shooter-slasher.
Bring in Durant and you have four other elete defenders who are 25yrs or younger who can start around him plus shooting.
Great coach.
Stability.
Identity.
Obviously the man. Starting lineup would be:
7’1" Gobert
6’10" Favors
6’11" Durant
6’8" Hayward
6’7". Exum
With Hood coming off the bench! at 6’8"
That still leaves Lyles and Alec Burks as bench players and about 5 extra picks in the next five drafts to fill out the roster with talent that could fill roles over time. (See Mack, and Neto)
That is an average height of 6’10" with a 7′ wingspan.
That core could concievably stay together for 8 years.
I like each individual player on that starting five better than anything Boston can put around him.
What say you?

lalailaParticipantstill looks like OKC is the best fit for him.
Patient is the key. Dirk was already 32 and seemed his best years were already played, but 13th season with the same team, making storng core and he got his.
KD is even more talented than Dirk and has more talented team, it’s a matter of time they will put everything together if they stay patient.
Plus they are STILL young KD and Russ 27, Ibaka 26, Kanter 23, Waiters 24, Adams 22.

phila9012ParticipantTimberwolves, Towns, dieng, durant, wiggins, rubio, then Shabazz and lavine off the bench with their top 8 pick this year which could be a guy like rabb or bender. Young and ready to win in a year and would probably make the playoffs next year. I don’t think it will happen, but towns is already a 20 to 22 ppg scorer, wiggins is comfortable being the second or third option, he could help the bench out. Rubio wouldn’t have to shoot which helps everyone and Durant could take as many shots as he wants

OhCanada-ParticipantDrake better be inviting KD to every single event Toronto has this Summer. KD usually comes to Toronto during the OVO Fest and Caribanna when the city is alive. Norm Kelly (appointed Mayor) and Drake (real Mayor) should have alreadybsent him the keys to the city!
I really don’t see him going to the miserable Lakers. I don’t think he is the type of guy to swallow his pride and join the Warriors or Lebron the teams that have been whooping him throughout his career and he is likely not going to any small markets either.
I don’t see Durant leaving OKC.

properbreaksParticipantAnywhere almost other than OKC and Golden St.. I think Russ and Durant are friends for the most part, but that doesn’t have but so much to do with business. Russ obviously wants his own team and sees himself as better then Durant but I don’t think it’s personal between them. They might disagree on things, but I think they won’t to get along. Still, their games don’t compliment each other anymore.
Westbrook should have been moved to the 2 like they played him at the end of games when they had Harden and he’d close games at the end.
Russ never complained, never even had different body language and they made the Finals with Harden playing point guard at the end of games. YEP, he played point AT THE END OF GAMES when they went to the FINALS. He’s super talented as a passer, but really he’s an attack scorer at heart so it goes foul at the end of games because he feels that he’s supposed to be the one shooting at the end of games.
If he went to Golden St. they’d be the Miami Heat all over and nobody on the Warriors want that criticism and I’m pretty sure he doesn’t either. Boston isn’t a bad choice nor would be DC being teamed up with Wall. The point is go somewhere where you are routinely second in shots every year like he is in OKC.

CU.LIONSParticipantGetting Durant and adding a high lottery pick alone makes Boston a top team in the East. But Boston would still have a ton of draft picks over the next few years to get even more talent. If Durant goes to GS he wins right away but will get burned by the “he joined a team who already won Rings without him crowd”
my sleeper team for KD would be the TWolves. Durant pairing with KAT, Wiggins, Lavine and possibly a top 3 pick (again) makes the Wolves a freakishly talented team. But would KD have the patience to wait for the youngsters to develop?

HitsterParticipantT-Wolves would be a leap of faith for KD but their upside could be considered better than Boston’s if all players reach their peak. A team of Rubio, LaVine,Wiggins, KD and KAT looks great on paper, I’m not sure if there would be enough shots to share around, add in another nice draft pick this year, a decent bench. Veteran presence on the bench in Prince and KG would still be around the team.
KG welcomes KD would be a great headline for reporters.
Personally I think that KD will stay loyal to OKC, he is still only 27 and can get the best deal there, maybe ask for player option in 3rd year, he’d then have a chance to explore FA in 2018 and almost certainly be the default top FA then. He’d be able to see what Westbrook does in 2017,whilst giving OKC loyalty he’d still keep his options open, he’d have taken the best deal on the table and may have a whole different range of options then..
I don’t think he has to chase a title as his only priority yet, lots of other top players never won their first title until they were 28 or older and he still has many more prime years in him if he stays sound. If he is 32/33 and still not got a title then he looks to the very best chance of getting one regardless of other considerations.
