TimeForNineParticipantToday, Alex Poythress announced he will not declare for the draft, and just a few moments ago Matt Jones (runs Kentucky Sports Radio) tweeted that Dakari Johnson is also returning. The list looks like this now:
Julius Randle- Draft
James Young- Draft
Alex Poythress- Returning
Dakari Johnson- Returning
Marcus Lee- Returning
Willie Cauley-Stein- Returning
Harrison twins- Undecided.
Thoughts?

redone1ParticipantInteresting. I though Dakari would have turned pro thanks to the lack of any true centers in this years class outside of Embiid. The frontcourt is loaded and I see a possible transfer in the near future. If I was a betting man I’d say Marcus Lee is the one to go. I hope Karl Towns can play the 4 for them because he’s one of my favirote prospects and there just doesn’t seem to be much time at C with Willie and Dakari having more experience. If the Harrisons come back (which they very likely could based on their poor draft projections. This team looks like the preseason #1. Looks like there will be 3 top teams next year in Duke, UK, and Arizona.

Kevin6CDParticipantshould probably be in that top group too. Bringing in Oubre and Alexander to join Mason, Selden, Ellis and company will form a very solid roster.

Jayhawks2011ParticipantIt’ll be interest how Calipari adjusts his system. He runs the dribble drive, but with the size he has a normal two post system could suit his personell a little better. Big guys: Marcus Lee, Towns, Cualey Stein, Dakari, Lyles, Willis, plus Pythress is a 3/4 hybrid. Thats 5-6 players that can play the 4 or 5 that could be drafted. Crazy deep frontline

samosasParticipantUlis is 5’8, but besides him, everyone is going to be 6’5 or taller. Kentucky is officially going to be the Monstars.

Kinguy11ParticipantI thought Cauley-Stein would go pro when you consider the depth Kentucky would’ve had at the 4 and 5 without him, in addition he also had a good chance of being a lottery pick in this strong draft.
I think the Harrison twins will stay. They’ve been inconsistent throughout the season and reportedly feedback on their likely draft position disapointed both of the brothers. This is a strong draft, despite it not living up to intial expectations, and the fact that they’ll likely to continue to improve in their sophmore season means that they have a good chance going in the lottery in 2015.

Mad MaxParticipantHe probably would have if he was healthy. But not being so he won’t be able to work out for teams and it could hurt his stock and fall due to his poor play at the end of his season.

imAboutDatActionParticipantthere was no chance he was slipping out of the 1st.
theres a real lack of centers in this draft. with his defense and athletcism, he was a lock for the 1st regardless if he couldnt work out for teams or not.
he’s taking a BIG risk returning. next year’s draft is deep with big men, and he’s going back to UK where they have a loaded front court as well.

Ebown5ParticipantI think that it is smart for Dakari Johnson to return. He probably would have been in very late first round at best this year, and with a good season next year he could be a lottery pick.
Generally, I think that if you are gauranteed to be a first round pick you should come out unless you are a potential lottery pick by staying. It is a tricky situation for boderline prospects, but I think that he will improve his stock for next year.

3 No Biases 3ParticipantSo now they’re 5 deep with NBA talented bigs, plus a hybrid in Poythress. Seems like a little much to me but should be interesting to watch.

juves4783Participanthow is this going to work? towns jr., lyles, johnson, cauley-stein and lee all deserve minutes. thought dakari would turn pro based on cauley-stein not.
randle and young were no brainers to me.
this team will be crazy if harrison twins return also. cauley-stein, johnson, poythress, harrison 2, harrison 1 with ulis, hawkins, booker, willis (who everyone says is no joke), lyles, lee and towns off the bench.

doubledribblerParticipantYou have to like this amount of depth if you are a UK fan. They are easily going to be the biggest team in the country, bomeone is going to get the short end of the stick in this. There are not enough minutes to go around.
I’m not sure what Cauley-Stein was going to be at a pro level, but I think he should have left. The quality minutes that the Plumlees were able to provide as backups probably would have enhanced his stock. While unlikely, there is a real chance that he could come back this year and not get onto the floor.

imAboutDatActionParticipanttheir frontcourt is just insane. every one of them may have a future in the NBA. has there ever been a deeper front court than that?
if the twins return they’re preseason #1 once again.

Mr. HookShotParticipantAlthough very nice for Kentucky to have so many talent, I still don’t get it why some recruits choose Kentucky. Especially ‘lower ranked’ 3 or 4 star recruits (e.g. Willis, Dawkins) should know better than sitting on the bench and not getting drafted after four years. Many players sitting on the bench for Kentucky would be prized recruits for other schools, with better chances to develop into star-players. Very often these lower ranked recruits commit before the five-star players so people might say they didn’t know who was coming in etc., but for schools like Kentucky everybody knows 2 or 3 five star recruits will come in, especially on positions where they don’t have a five-star recruit yet.
Don’t get me wrong, I understand this recruiting from a Kentucky point-of-view, but some of these players (or their parents) should know better than this and deserve better than this.

Land of GrantParticipantCan Towns or Lyles play the 3? Don’t know much about Lyles but Towns with his shooting and athleticism seems like he’d be able to step out there.
If I were the NCAA I’d let Lee transfer without missing a year, just b/c he’s a great talent who’d be stifled by rotation and I wouldn’t wanna see him forgotten.
And guys, remember Derek Willis!

Edgecat20ParticipantGreat news for UK. My favorite line up they had on the court this past year was Dakari, Randle, Poythress, Young and Andrew Harrison. With that front court they played smash mouth ball, which is how they started to be so good. They were going to get the ball in the paint, and push you behind the rim and grab everything that missed.
I agree with JordanC20. That’s how their line up should look, as they continue to play that style of ball. If the twins leave Hawkins will have to play a major role next year. Towns should be able to help spread the floor a little bit

redone1ParticipantCalipari should try to implement a 2-3 zone more often. It would allow Lyles Towns and Lee to get more minutes at the 3. If the Twins come back that would be the biggest 2-3 zone in the history of college basketball.
PG- 6’6 Andrew Harrison. 5’9 Tyler Uliss
SG- 6’6 Aaron Harrison. 6’5 Devin Booker
SF- 7’0 Karl Towns Jr. 6’9 Trey Lyles. 6’8 Alex Poythress. 6’8 Derrick Willis
PF- 7’0 Willie Cauley Stein. 6’9 Marcus Lee
C- 7’0 Dakari Johnson
Thats some insane length along the back line.
