The lakers picked up Kendall marshall a few weeks ago from the d league after nash, blake and farmar went down. He didn’t get minutes right away as Xavier henry was playing around 40 minutes a night as the pg. But then he went down as well so it became Marshalls turn to step in.

The first game he played was against the sixers where he had 8 points and 3 assists in 17 minutes. I thought he looked all right. His jumper was better then I expected but he still had some trouble getting separation.

I didn’t see his second game vs Milwaukee but he finished with 10 points and 7 assists in 28 minutes.

Well tonight he got a full workload playing 41 minutes vs Utah. Marshall finished with 20 points, 15 assists, 6 rebounds and just 1 turnover.

He played solid defense, shot 8-12 from the field(2/3 from three) and really got into the lane well. He also is a guy who will pass to the open man even if the open man isn’t it necessarily in shooting position just to move the ball and make defenses work instead of overdribbling and trying to create on his own every time. He has his head up and will always look to make the extra pass. The lakers offense looked better tonight then it has in recent weeks primarily because of marshalls ball movement instead of the lakers getting caught watching young or gasol over dribble trying to do too much. What im trying to say about him is that unlike a lot of pg’s who can break down guys at will and get into the lane, marshall is not always gonna be able to create off his own dribble, but if you have guys who can make plays and knock down shots, then marshall will keep the offense flowing and find the right guy. He plays like a true pg.

It’s still early but right now its looking like this guy might still have a future in the league.

20 15 and 6 is impressive. I thought they shouldve played him almost immediately after they signed him. He’s a bit slow and he isnt usually a big scorer, but he is literally the only PG they have. And he looks to get guys involved. It’s not like they really have anything to lose playing a PG at the PG spot, instead of Henry and Nick Young and other wings.

One good game against a poor defensive team and a poor defensive PG.  Temper the expectations a little.

I simply commented on how he has played  and said that its still early but he still might have a future in the nba. Yeah, I went crazy.

    ….and I’ll say it again.

Kendall Marshall is an NBA point guard. He’s not Derick Rose, Russell Westbrook, John Wall or Eric Bledsoe.

He doesn’t have elite level athleticism that today’s point guards are having in bunches. But he has ELITE-level passing ability. See’s plays before they happen, and most importantly (he is playing the POINT GUARD position after all) gets teamates the ball in the RIGHT spot.

This was most evident when, back at UNC, Roy Williams decided to go with Kendall Marshall over Larry Drew. Larry Drew was servicible but was just able to get the ball to teamates and Harrison Barnes but not in the RIGHT spots (not in a fluid motion). Roy switched to Marshall and Harrison Barnes broke out of a slump and started shooting better and the team went on a long winning streak because they had Kendall pulling all the strings and getting teamates the ball in the right spots. Great floor general to run a team. He is what he is and can definitely help a team.

Why do NBA teams give up on players so easily? They don’t pass the eye test at first so they’re ditched? Either way, hope that Kendall continues to do well and play good in essentially his tryout and he can stick around the NBA. I believe he will continue the good play and be a starting PG in the NBA. And for those of you who think I’m speaking too fast, please check this comment in the future, because I will re-post when he continues to do well.

    Quick fact on the game:

Marshall is the first Laker PG, since Magic Johnson (25 years), to have 20 points, 15 assists, and shoot 65% from the field.

Think about that for a min…

17 Assist in a loss. He can really rack up them dimes for sure. Definately a victim of his draft position and the rise of Bledsoe of course.

well hes in the perfect position right now to revive his young career. Guranteed minutes, couple decent shooters and D’antoni ‘system’/coaching and no expectations in regards to wins (at this point the Lakers have to take what they can get wins wise)

As good as he supposedly looks lets all remember he plays in dantoni system. Dantoni has he ability to make any pg look great. It’s a reason he was playing in the d league and nobody picked him up. Simply fell Into a good system

Marshall’s playmaking ability was never in question. But he had no jumper last year and that hurt his ability to create and showcase his best attribute, thus making him a minus overall on offense. Considering he’s also a below average defender because of his lack of athleticism, he couldn’t really play last year. But now he seems to have fix his shot, he’s shooting 50% on 3s with the Lakers on 22 attempts and had 46% or so in the D-League. Everybody knew that with a reliable jumper Marshall belongs in the league. Now it’s just a matter of seeing if it’s just a fluke or he really has improved as a shooter. On thing is certain, hitting 3s or not, especially as a primary ball handler, it’s not on D’Antoni’s system.
