AZcats09ParticipantSorry if this has already been brought up before…
I see Marshall as a carbon copy of Jason Kidd post 2004. Has better vision than anyone entering the draft since ricky rubio/rajon rondo. If you have a team with scorers in place, then I think he can be the perfect pick.
His game managment skills and intangibles are what many teams need to put them over the top.
His athleticism is subpar, but should only be a real problem on defense (because he see’s the game a step ahead of everyone else on the offensive end to make up for it). Also, Steve Nash has been playing horrible defense in PHX for about 8 years but the right system can disguise that.
His jumper off the dribble is non existent, but he seems to have the potential to eventually be able to knock down enough wide open threes to keep the defense honest and keep his dribble-drive game open.
I think he’s one of those guys who could be extremely valuable if drafted by the right team, or could ride the pine for 10+ years if drafted by the wrong one.

PulseGlazerParticipantIf Marshall is 1/10 the defender Kidd is on 2s I’ll be shocked.

AZcats09Participant^I agree but I don’t think Kidd has guarded 2’s effectively in quite some time.

PulseGlazerParticipantLast season in the playoffs isn’t that long ago, and he said post 2004.

mosdefParticipantIts just me but I see no comparison to post 2004 Jason Kidd. Kidd eventually got somewhat decent at shooting 3s compared to when he first came in the league and couldnt shoot with the triple Js but his size and athleticism was no joke. He compares more to Mateen Cleaves or Jordan Farmar. A Guard that cant shoot and isnt fast, to me, is hard to succeed. He was lucky he was in a Roy Williams offense to even put him in mention of being a lottery possibility

SpacegrassParticipantThe Jason Kidd comparison is valid in two areas and that is size and passing ability , that is where it stops. Marshall will never be the defender and rebounder that Kidd was though I think Marshall will be a better shooter earlier in his career compared to Kidd. The guy that Marshall reminds me of more than anybody is John Lucas Sr , watch the way he played and then watch Marshall and tell me that Lucas is not the most accurate comparison. Similar size , excellent passers , not the greatest athletes , lefties , and just flat out point guards. If Marshall goes to the right team watch out because he will surprise his doubters.

JoeWolf1I think if a team drafts Marshall expecting a future star they are going to be disappointed, but I see Marshall putting together a solid career. He’d be a great guy to pick at the end of the lottery to twenty range because he’d be a great backup distributer as a rookie. There are some obvious parts of his game that he’ll need to improve to play at the next level, but his vision will make him an asset from day 1.
You can make comparisons to Marc Jackson, Jacques Vaughn and Marcus Williams. I don’t see him as a clone of either one, especially not Jason Kidd, but I do see him playing 10 years, contributing right away as a backup and eventually starting. Not a guy to turn your team around or provide a Ricky Rubio like spark to a struggling team. I wouldn’t reach for him in the top 10 because this class doesn’t have point guards, but mid 1st he’d be a great pick.

sheltwon3ParticipantA young Jason Kidd could not shoot but he was no Rondo. He had a lot of game early on where he made 7 3 pointers.

surveParticipantThere are so many Kendall Marshall posts on this site mainly discussing the same things so it is a bit redundant. Still, what I can say is….the really true liability is his defense. Nothing else should even be discussed because it wont matter much. He will be a good shooter that can keep defenses honest. We already know he will be magical in the open court. The biggest question on offense is his half court game. Only because Roy’s half court system sucked so we couldnt really see what Kendall could do. I envision him being a really big problem if he gets in the right system that has the pick and roll components and some great cutters and off-ball movement.
I think he could even have All Star potential. He wont be a numbers guy though. Maybe a a double double guy, but thats it. He can impact the win column….although I agree with the initial post….it has to be the right situation.

DolanCareParticipantI’m having a hard time thinking about what team he would fit well on besides the Jazz.
People have speculated that the Hornets may nab him, I just can’t see Marshall being effective without bigs or a wing to dish to.
The Jazz would be the best fit in this draft. Maybe he slips?

DolanCareParticipantForgot that the Jazz lost their pick. What team should get him then? I agree he needs the right team, maybe Portland then?
