KU PRIDE14ParticipantI hate to say this especially being a Kansas fan but I do believe Keith Benson is better than Cole Aldrich and I’m not understanding why his draft stock isnt higher. he is averaging 19 points 11 rebounds and 4 blocks per game and he is a fringe first round pick, i remember last year when Kansas played Oakland and he just looked much better than Cole Aldrich matched up against him. I believed if he did play for a school like KU or UK or a big time school he would for sure be a top 15 pick, thoughts?

sammybuckeye13ParticipantI think he’s Jason Thompson. Not saying he’s better than Cole Aldrich, but Alrdich’s defensive skill set seemed more tailored for the pro game. Aldrich averaged 3.5 blocks in 27 minutes for a Big 12 school. Benson is averaging 3.4 blocks in 33 minutes for a low mid-major school. Benson’s offensive game may be more refined, but the disparity in scoring between him and Aldrich isn’t all that great, considering Benson is a #1 option in a weak conference and Aldrich was the 3rd option in one of the strongest conferences, and he played about 7 less minutes than Benson is playing, and while Benson is still a better scorer, Aldrich has 20 pounds on him and is tougher. It’s a toss up to me, but Benson will definitely benefit from a really weak crop of centers this year.

JoeWolf1Aldrich was double and triple teamed all of last season, was a 3rd option offensively and still almost averaged almost double double with 3.5 blocks in 26 minutes. Keith Benson doesn’t get that kind of attention from opposing defenses.
I remember that KU v Oakland game last year and Benson put up some good numbers, but it was a complete blowout where Aldrich didn’t even play big minutes, Benson is a tough guy to shoot over, but on an NBA team he’s a 5th option offensively at the center position no matter if he’s on the court with the first, second, or 3rd unit. Keith Benson will also turn 23 before the season starts. There’s not a lot of 225 lb centers in the NBA and for all of those reasons I expect Benson to be a 2nd rounder.

Mr. 19134ParticipantI really like Keith Benson and think he is a sleeper prospect or he is Steven Hunter 2.0 But even Hunter was a lotto pick. I would take Aldrich tho over Benson easily for all the reasons sammybuckeye outlined.

joecheck88Participanti think benson is a taller taj gibson and wouldnt mind seeing him go at pick 16 or later. i think cole aldrich has the frame to get stronger and be a very good low post center against the bynums, boguts and howards of the world. benson is probably a role player for a good team coming off the bench or a spot starter at best. imo.
