I know there’s so many Kawhi posts right now. But am I the only one that thinks the Scottie Pippen Comparison isn’t crazy? Of course he’s not the freakish athlete that Scottie was but he’s definitely just as quick. They effect the game in similar ways, and both jacks of all trades on the offensive end while being elite defenders on the other side of the ball. They’re both at their best as a  2nd or 3rd option. For Kawhi to play like he did on the biggest stage possible, I definitely see Scottie Pippen as his CEILING.

That’s a pretty big stretch.  Pippen is the 3rd greatest SF of all-time, and the greatest defensive SF ever.  I love Leonard and his upside, but Pippen is a stretch.  I don’t see Kawhi being that type of playmaker.  Pippen was an amazing passer.  Scoring, Leonard may be able to equal Pippen’s production.  And then defensively, we’re talking the best defensive SF ever.

It’s way too early for these comparisons, I know people can be prisoners of the moment but Pippen is a top 50 player of all time. Kawhai isn’t even the 3rd option on the team yet. He needs to prove what he can do with a much bigger role and when the target is on his back every night to produce.

His ceiling is that of Shawn Marion, he will be an uber role player for the rest of his career.

He does many things well and plays great defense, but his strength is playing off of others. I just don’t feel he has that take over gene in him. He will be a multiple time All-Star of that I have no doubt about.

This Championship was a team effort, if the Spurs were needing him to score 22-23ppg and create offense it would not have been the same.

Not as good a playmaker, but at this point I wouldn’t be surprised if he develops that part of his game. He’s already a better shooter than Scottie has ever been. He’s not as good attacking the rim, but has improved a lot and he also can hit pull ups. This guy is going beyond any expectation

Scottie Pippen and Michael Jordan were genetic freaks its almost impossible to say we will ever see two players that compare to them…

Scottie Pippen was so god damn long he could play the passing lane and play lock down D on the guy infront of him at the same time…Pippen was a really gifted freak of nature, Kawhi on the other hand is not nearly as long as Pippen was nor does he have the Freak Bounce that Pippen had.. but he does have the same approach to the game so I see why you would compare him.. just dont be so quick to throw a comparison around the moment you see something a player in the league that does something that resembles what an ALL-NBA Hall of Famer mastered.

Kawhi measured at the NBA Draft combine with a 7’3 wingspan. The same size wingspan many credit Pippen with.

On defense Pippen is a reasonable comparison.  Offensively they’re pretty different.  Kawhi isn’t the playmaker Pippen was, but he’s a much better shooter than Scottie was at that stage.

At 22, Pippen averaged 2.1 assists as a rookie.  At 23, he averaged 3.5 assists.

too soon to tell about playmaking.

One thing about Pippen he didn’t have like Kawhi is his jumper, he can shoot it on the move and stand still. The way he is able to go full speed stop at dime and shoot it reminded me of Westbrook. Defensively he can’t touch Pippen don’t get me wrong he is good defender. However, I never thought he was going to stop Lebron. Lebron was always going to get his, but Lebron can’t win it on his own, and he can only do so much before the whole team starts collapsing on him.

The current player who more resembles Scottie is Paul George.  George is a bit taller and less of a playmaker but provides a glimpse at what a young solo Pippen might have played like.
