Is kawhi Leonard the next franchis player of the spurs when the era of Parker is done? i mean the era of Duncan, Ginobli and Parker, he showed he has more to show, high potential with high motor, and great lenght, sure he average 8.6pts 5.1 rebs and 1.3 steals in 21 mins, got the steals with his crazy wingspan 7’3,

he beaten Jefferson for the starting spot, a rookie, though jefferson was not the same as before, he showed he can knock down threes with 37.6%, needs some work there, also love to hustle,

He has to be. He’s their only solid young player going forward, I was surprised at how good his jumper is as that was his main flaw. I really think he will be the first small forward since Gerald Wallace to average a double double. That wingspan and his motor is crazy

leonard is more of a glue guy that does the things that get you the win, he can be relied on to play good defense but he does not seem like the type of player a team would go to in crunch time, he will be a key contributor on any type of team though and is a quality player who fits well with the spurs. hes a guy with good character and you know he is willing to accept any role that a team gives him.

People might not like this but he is very similar to Kidd Gilchrist, similar size, length, and skill set. His ceiling may not be as high and he isn’t an elite athlete but he could very well be one of the top SFs in the game very soon.

yeah, i agree to tyreke johnson, i was wondering on how the spurs would be if there is no more Manu and Duncan, i guess kawhi cant carry the whole teams offense, though not sure if the Spurs would suck if manu and duncan leave because of the front office, its pretty good in finding unsong talents

Yeah I believe he’ll be a big part of the franchises future, but I hesitate to say franchise guy. The Spurs have him and some other young pieces, but who knows someone they stashed overseas might show up soon and shock the NBA like Ginobili did when he came.

Kawhi is a piece. The spurs are the best drafters around and will continue to reload as players leave. Once Duncan leaves they’ll get a replacement. Then once manu the same thing. Also Greg Poppovich is a coach that gets the most out of his players in a way ive never seen before. Best coach in the league.

@B Free; I said this before the draft; MKG and Leonard are very similar except that Leonard has a better wingspan and doesn’t have that awkward hitch in his shot (he’s just got enormous hands, which won’t hold him back like a hitch will in the future). I wouldn’t say right off the bat that MKG has a higher ceiling; Leonard slipped in the draft, but he was being considered a top-5 pick at times during the draft process, and with good reason.

I don’t think Leonard or MKG will ever be "franchise players" but both could be that Deng/Iguodala level All-Star who sneaks in a few times with glue-guy skills and outstanding D.

As far as being an offensive threat, I’d say Leonard has a higher upside; he was the man in college and lead SDSU to a good record with his second season; we can’t say that MKG has done the same for any of his teams as every team he’s played on has been stacked (HS team-mate of Kyrie Irving – enough said).

Will be very interesting to see what happens with these two, but I’m a big fan of Leonard and I think Pop will get the most out of him (whereas Dunlap is a bit of an unknown).

if kawhi Leonard has to be the next spurs franchise player I feel really sorry for spurs fans because that team would have the worst record in the league..

      nba franchise players:

.atlanta: joe johnson (until this year), now josh smith (or hortford if you want)

.boston: rajon rondo (or p.pierce/garnett if you want)

      .cleveland: kyrie irving

      .clippers: c.paul/b.griffin

      .dallas: dirk nowitzki

      .denver: ty lawson

      .detroit: greg monroe

      .g.state: s.curry

.houston: jeremy lin (or k.martin if you want)

      .indiana: d.granger

      .lakers: kobe

      .memphis: s.randolph/r.gay

      .miami: lebron james

      .milwaukee: monta ellis

      .minnesota: kevin love

.new orleans: a.davis (or eric gordon)

      .new jersey: d.williams

      .new york: c.anthony

      .oklahoma: k.durant

      .orlando: d.howard

      .philadelphia: a.iguodala

.phoenix: steve nash (until this year), now yet to see..

      .portland: l.aldridge

      .sacramento: d.cousins

      .utah: al jefferson

      .washington: j.wall

and the last team I put in here is charlotte, they had a 7-59 record..why? besides that the team was really bad they had no franchise player..

.do you really think k.leonard can be a franchise player? can he really be better than any of the above? can he even create for him or for his teammates? can he carry a team on his back? personally I don’t think so at all.. and don’t get me wrong, I think he is a really good player but a glue player, that kind of player every coach and teammate loves to have or play with.. may be when he reaches his peak he’ll be a second option in a team, kind of like l.deng and make 1 all star game, but no way a franchise player.. well that’s my opinion off course..

dont rate the team by there franchise player? i guess, especially the spurs, the Management would also be a factor

lets take a look shall we, the Spurs Have Duncan as there franchise player for 10+ years now, he got some amazing help provided by FRONT OFFICE, which still manages the team right now, with adding Parker and Ginobli, Horry and Barry and some other guys,

my point is that the spurs wont be the worst team in that year, except if they would tank, that is how they got Duncan by tanking, the office would build around Kawhi, if he becomes it the franchise player

they will probably build a team with him, he wont be a go to guy but he definetly can be sorta like a gerald wallace type player

The Spurs need another first option for him to be effective. I think he can be a very good 2nd option.

Kawhi is already a good starter. He has a potential to be a very good starter. But I’m not sure if he ever makes an All Star game. And I’m sure he isn’t a franchise player.

But the Spurs don’t need him to be. Ginobli is still one of the top five 2Gs in the league. Parker might be top five at his position as well, but since PG is so stacked right now, if you want to knock him back to some place 5 through 10, I’m okay with that. Duncan is still a good PF/C.

And the Spurs can keep reloading in the draft. They can’t necessarily find super stars in the second round, but they can find legit NBA players. So the team can star beating you with deapth as well as good starters.
