Here’s a workout video for Karl Anthony Towns that he did in LA. This guy is the real deal. Not only can he shoot but he can dribble better than a lot of 3 and 4’s out there.
There’s no doubt in my mind he’s going to be a big time player.0 - Posted on: Sat, 06/20/2015 - 6:07pm #992077
BiggysmallsParticipantAs a Wolves fan I sure hope so.
There was a piece on Grantland a couple days ago with scouts takes on Towns/Jahlil/Russell and I was underwhelmed by the scouts takes on Towns. They seemed really modest. Idk I was hoping he would "wow" people but maybe those particular scouts were just expecting too much or plain off…or right.
I’ve seen comparisons from Al Horford to LaMarcus Aldridge to Marc Gasol. I would be happy with any mix of those. If Towns can be a 17-8 type guy with good defense and passing ability to make plays, I’d say the Wolves could have a fun 1-2 punch for the next 8 years.

Mad MaxParticipantYea if Towns can just be the caliber of those type of players and Wiggins already looking good and will likely be Paul George with some more upside they’re just a third guy (LaVine?) from being a title team with that core

CoachWyersParticipantI think Minnesota goes with Towns for sure and he is angling for that since he is refusing to workout for the Lakers. It was said Flip Saunders preferred Okafor, but I think with the uptempo young core Minnesota has Towns is the better fit and guy they will ultimately take. I personally think Russell will end up being the best player out of this draft, but Towns has a really high upside and his floor isn’t too low so you can’t really miss with him. As for a comparison I think his ceiling is Lamarcus Aldridge Offense/Anthony Davis Defense and his Floor is Vlade Divac Offense/Andrew Bogut Defense.

BiggysmallsParticipantMaybe I’m too young to remember Vlade’s prime years but going back and looking at his numbers, I hope Towns has a bigger impact than that offensively. Vlade’s best statistical season he averaged 16 and 10 and was a career 12 and 8 guy. I know he was a good passer, but am I being too ambitious wanting more from Towns?

Captain LParticipantI know it is hard to tell at this point but I’m not sure I’ve seen a player with more upside, I think he can be better than Aldridge, he is more athletic, potentially better both offensively and defensively, he has a better body than Davis ( I really love Davis), more potential as a low post scorer than Davis, looks like he can shoot with anyone, to me the sky is the limit for KAT. Minn.would be crazy not to take him.

Pro-21ParticipantI have doubts about him and many other big men to be honest. It feels like you need a transcendant wing/guard to make you very competitive. I feel like even though Towns has an intriguing skillset, he’ll always show glimpses of it and never really dominate using one or two of them. I still feel like he’ll be an 18 ppg 10 rebound guy and we’ll always talk about how he can be better than he is, even as he never reaches his potential.
He makes a lot of sense for Minnesota, but they might regret not getting a player like Russell, who has the skills to become a superstar.

mcgee555ParticipantThe Wolves have had horrible luck drafting guards. I don’t trust their judgement anymore. The best guards they have drafted and kept were Ricky Rubio, Isaiah Rider, and Pooh Richardson (LaVine too early to tell). This while drafting and trading Ray Allen, Ty Lawson, Brandon Roy, and Mario Chalmers, plus the infamous "pick two point guards over Curry" incident.
I agree they might regret not taking Russell, but they have been so bad at identifying guard talent (or unlucky) that I’d rather see them keep it simple and pick a low-risk big man.

theballerwayParticipantHe reminds me of Rasheed Wallace in skill set. Just perhaps not so fluid/smooth or as explosive but that’s who I see. In his prime I cant see him averaging less than 15ppg really ( couple put backs, 3/4 fts, customary 3 pointer -or 2, and a few odd jumpers or dish offs ). I take him first simply because he can be utilized in more areas on the floor than Okafor imo
