So after about 2 months of no drama, the Kings are at it again and contemplating firing George Karl for probably the third time in the, what, 8 months he’s been there? This team is an absolute joke. One of Charles Barkley’s "mickey mouse organizations."

As of right now, they are 3.5 games out of the 8 seed and experiencing a tough stretch in which Cousins and Gay injuries have resulted in losses to worse teams, such as the Nets last night. Aside from the obvious superstar in Demarcus, this team’s roster really is not very good but they fit well together and deserve a window to build some continuity and add some better pieces. Ben McLemore (declared a bust pretty early on) and Bellinelli (who couldn’t get off the Spurs bench for some playoff series) split most of the minutes at the 2 and Omri Casspi or WCS start with Cousins up front. Compare the Kings depth to that of the Jazz and it really isn’t close. IMO, Rudy Gay is playing some of the smartest and best two-way basketball of his career and Rondo gets them a good shot almost every offensive posession. The defense could obviously be better but it is an area they could look to improve at the deadline or in the offseason. The team is fun to watch and competitive, and I love when they are on NBA TV or playing locally or on the national stage.

Like most middle of the road teams, they win games they shouldn’t and lose games they shouldn’t more often then we anticipate–then again, this is the NBA. I believe Karl is giving this team an identity and has Cousins playing some incredible, dominant basketball. Another coaching change just makes no sense to me, and I really do not get what is going on with ownership and the front office in Sacto.

I have FAR less of a problem with Karl being fired than I have Malone being fired.  I thought Malone had the style and personality to develop a team identity that would best suit their personnel.  To me the problem is that the style that best suits their personnel is not what ownership wants, which is why they targeted Karl, a guy known for uptempo.  Not only does the offense not fit the personnel, the defensive schemes are gimmicky, which is another staple of a Karl team. On top of that , Karl is known for having a contentious relationship with his players.  And they expected that to work long-term with a personality like Cousins (who btw developed a great relationship with Malone before he was fired)? Please.  Karl is a shell of himself.  There’s no fire there.  Illness has robbed him of his energy.  He looks meek and ineffectual.  He was a mistake hire from the jump.

As long as that kook Ranadive is there and meddling in decisions,  I’d have very little confidence in them making the right hire.

Hopefully they are dumb and trade Cousins to the Celtics for draft picks so I can laugh all the way to banner 18.

The thing I don’t get is why would they tell the media that they are contemplating it. If they are going to do it then do it but if not shut up

George Karl made his grave when it got out he wanted Cousins out. Even when the team played ok it was a matter of time, and no one should be surprised. He lost the chance of the locker having his back almost from the start.

Some serious issues with the current Kings organization:

    1.  Karl and DMC power struggle that started last year with Karl publicly lobbying for a DMC trade.  Karl didn’t win that and that will always be just under the surface.  Every time there is some stress on the team, for example the latest losing binge, Karl’s job will be at risk.

    2.  The owner is a meddlesome, micromanager that won’t let anything play out.  He needs to let Karl do his thing for at least a single season.  Instead he tinkers, and does not give anyone a chance to get established.  He’s like a kid with a bad case of ADHD who can’t chill out and complete a task.

    3.  DMC has a well-known attitude problem.  As talented as he is, he needs a coach like Phil Jackson, or a Popowich type guy to reign him in and help him to be a leader.  George Karl is not the solution if the problem is DMC’s attitude.  However, no coach of that caliber is going to consider Sacramento after how Karl is constantly being put on the hot seat.  If Karl gets canned now, forget about getting a veteran coach to come in and setlle things down.

    4.  The overall talent level of the team is, I think, better than people are giving credit for.  But there is really no chemistry with this team.
