HaleParticipantI only watched the last 7 minutes. Just pointing out that it was hardly skewed towards Wiggins, especially with you being a WVU fan. Although I will give you props. You hyped Eron Harris last year and the dude is a beast.

Yes, Wiggins got bailed out twice for sure, with a few other questionable calls. Let say you take away three trips to the line; he still has 35 points. Not 41, but still a performance worth mentioning.
The refs in general really get on my nerves. They took Kansas physically out of the game with ticky-tack fouls. The foul trouble limited their ability to be physical and aggressive in the paint, which was a contributing factor to all the offensive rebounds Kansas gave up later in the game. Seriously, Nobody can bump anyone in the Big 12 without there being a foul called. This style of officiating really opens up the game for someone like Staten, a small dude with waterbug type quickness. Was Staten really getting killed every time he got into the paint? I don’t see it that way…To me the refs were already trigger happy, then throw in a little guy going to the cup, and of course fouls are going to be called.
It just seems a little hypocritical to say that Staten was getting hammered and also say that Wiggins was getting phantom calls. These refs call just about everything. That’s just the way it is. So yeah, Wiggins got a couple to go his way, but at the same time, the refs took away KU’s physicality with their calls.
On the surface it looked liked KU was out-hustled throughout the game, but IMO their aggressiveness was hamstringed by the way the game was officiated. It’s been like this all year. I honestly believe that if the refs would’ve “let the guys play” a little bit more, the game would have turned out differently. Less free throws for Wiggins, less for Staten, and quite possibly a different final score.

Meaning that when they go for a block, they look like a volleyball player swinging down. They were attacking Staten and initiating the contact. When WVU was playing defense, most of the time they had hands straight up in the air and waiting for the offensive man to attack them. If you didn’t see it that way, please go back and watch the game.
Huggins is a prick about things and, again say im bias, i think his constant complaining to the refs causes them to turn on him. The refs are human beings and they have feelings and egos too so when he attacks them on every trip, i think they subconsciously favor the other guys. I think it showed with Wiggins. He was being aggressive and he is the big name. Naturally, people watch him closer, including the refs. They were giving him the benifit of the doubt on a lot of calls..
Lastly, Wiggins is a stud. I’m not as high on him as a lot of people are because i dont think he can be Lebron or Kobe. I compared him to Pippen early and people hated it. He wont be Pippen but he could be a Spreewell type guy.

One thing for me that I can say from this game is I love the heart, hustle and bulldog attitude that Jamari Traylor plays with. His athleticism and motor remind me a lot of Thomas Robinson when he was at Kansas. Maybe his game will develop and we will be talking about him next year as a prospect!

He has everything you want. He carried them to even make this a game. Some eh calls against WVU but Wiggins was everywhere. I have the first pick I’m taking Wiggins as I would have the whole year.

druneave3ParticipantSlowly going with Wiggins back to #1 on my board. I bought into the hype machine and came back down to earth after seeing him play college level ball. I was really down on him for a while because of his apathy. Now he’s back on top, and not just because of the game today. Might not be the franchise changer but there are several reasons why he is #1 for me.
– improved outside shot throughout the season
– flaws in other prospects (still a great, deep draft but most people no longer saying "epic")
– Embiid’s back
– his length, defense, athleticism,
– his floor along with his ceiling (huge potential but his defense and other characteristics should help him have a long career even if he isn’t HOF)
His overall demeanor and desire scare me a bit but late in the game while he was pressing, stealing the ball, and dropping 40+, he wasn’t breathing hard or sweating the slightest. He made it look easy. I sure hope he figures it all out, gets coached up, and "gets a little nasty in him"- Pop. Amazing game today kid!
