tblazer_NZParticipantHow much money/year do you see K.J McDaniels getting. What team do you see him going to? Will he stay in Houston. Up to what amount would Houston match?
Portland would be an interesting option, they are getting younger and more athletic and have cap space. They also could give him a lot of minutes as a back up 3.

RUDEBOY_Participanthouston offered him a qualifying offer, which makes him a restricted free agent and they have the right to match it or trade him..he looked promising with philly, but didnt get much burn with the depth at sf in houston….
im surprised this kid is still available….

tblazer_NZParticipantI know he is restricted that is why I said how much would Houston be willing to match. Another team s cap space gets tied up when they make an offer also so waiting until after the 9th allows only 3 days to match. If he was made an offer earlier then Houstton would have more time to consider matching.
This could be a Wesley Matthews type situation with Utah after his rookie year. Altough Matthews made his money by defending Kobe quite well in the playoffs. Portland front loaded Matthews contract to made it harder for Utah to match.

BigChamp12ParticipantI think the Knicks can use him off the bench at SF. Especially when they play ball, with Melo at the 4 and Afflalo at SG. The kid is improving his offensive game and is already a good defender and electric shot blocker due to his freak athleticism. I mean, what do the Knicks have to lose?

sitlbitoParticipantLol I know you wanted to say "small ball" but "Especially when they play ball" made me chuckle. Like the Knicks don’t really play ball very often.

machu46ParticipantIt sounds like the reason we haven’t heard of teams having interest is because he can’t sign an offer sheet yet. Since he’s restricted, the only thing that leaking out info on an offer sheet would do is give Houston more time to make a logical decision on whether or not to keep him.

kobyzParticipantYou sure he’s restricted? I Remember something about him taking a one year contract instead of three and less money from sixers in order not to be restricted, am i wrong?

machu46ParticipantHe signed the deal so that he could become restricted earlier so that he wouldn’t have to live off a 2nd round pick salary.

ExumInfernoParticipantNot sure if this is all correct, but here is an update. Houston have reportedly said they will wait and match any offer for KJ. I think they can only go up to the Mid-Level Exception money. Other teams talked about as having interest, and as always lots of talk at the moment so who knows if it is real, are Lakers and Knicks.
Steals, blocks, defense, he has a lot more than many other free agents. He does hit outside shots, but at a bad percentage. On a team with lots of scoring he would be a great fit, although Houston probably think his defense next to Harden’s offense is very useful. Maybe the Rockets will end up choosing between KJ and Josh Smith, and maybe their draft picks are closer to Smith replacements.

GBeeParticipantWhat do the Rockets need him for anyways? They have Ariza, Brewer, Papanikolau and they just drafted Dekker. That’s 4 SFs on their roster, and I think they’re all better than McDaniels. Maybe they just don’t want to lose an asset for nothing so they say they’ll match, but IMO he’s hardly an asset. He’s worth maybe a mid 2nd round pick. If they retained him, he’d just rot on the bench again.

PulseGlazerParticipantRemember how much trash he talked to get out of Philly to now be stapled to the bench on a contender?
