JV’s_pump_fakeParticipantSo I was reading an interesting story. A trade rumour that suggests the Raptors are disappointed with Jonas Valanciunas’ development and that there have been discussions about moving him to the Grizzlies for Marc Gasol.
The Raptors also have 4 – 1st rounders in the next 2 years (2 each) and a bunch of young players fighting for minutes (Norman Powell, Delon Wright, Anthony Bennett, Lucas Nogueria) to sweeten the pot.
There’s no way they bring 4 rookies into the mix over the next couple years, especially mid round picks.
Sitting 2nd in the east with DeMar DeRozan opting out at seasons’ end (although he says he’s loyal and will most likely re-sign for more money and years) do you go all in for this year?
What assets do you deal to bring in Gasol? or do you keep JV and go after the more pressing need of a starting calibre PF?
Thoughts?

natevalParticipantI don’t see why Memphis would move Gasol for JV plus filler,

OhCanada-ParticipantGive it all up Ross, Valanciunas and both 1st rounders. Maybe more if need be. We have developing prospects that in my opinion are ready for small roles and gradually increasing responsa omitted like Wright, Powell, Caboclo, Nogueira and Bennett. Time to go for the win.
But Memphis is not parting with arguably the best C in the league.

JV’s_pump_fakeParticipantthere was a question with my statement. You read jv for gasol and start negging. What happened to discussion? A PF to pair with JV would be preferable anyway. A stretch 4 like Morris or Anderson. Maybe even the manimal

publius2481ParticipantI can’t see a matchup for Gasol. I would suggest they try and trade for Ryan Anderson, but to do that they would need to dump Patterson on someone. I somehow do not think giving up a first round pick to move Patterson is worth it, so I almost feel it would be best to ride with this team for now. If they want to trade JV, I would wait until the offseason when it will be easier to move him (thank you sudden cap increase).

tblazer_NZParticipantPatrick Patterson is a solid rotation player, he is not having the best of years off the bench but his salary isn’t toxic so he could easily be moved. I would be happy to have him in Portland. 6’9 235 can stretch the floor and is a decent defender.

tblazer_NZParticipantI think it would be better to target Brook Lopez because he would be more gettable. Brooklyn needs piece to rebuild with.

elecblueParticipantJV is 7 years younger, costs about 60% as much as Gasol, and he’s probably better than Gasol offensively at the same age. Will Gasol make the raptors a favorite in the east against the Cavs? Certainly not.
Pat-Pat is solid all around and is on a great contract. his value is at a relative low because his 3s aren’t falling at a high rate. Can’t lose him now. Ryan Anderson will command a large contract in the summer, I hope raptors don’t give up a first round pick to rent him short term. I would like to see the raptors go for a guy like Thad Young, reasonable contract, fits a need, plays hard. Or Covington, if we can get him with a second round pick plus say James Johnson.

JV’s_pump_fakeParticipantmight not be a bad idea. I like thad young’s game and he would come with a much lower price tag. He can stretch out to the arc and give jv room to operate (and use that same predictable pump fake move he uses every time lol)
Gasol was a nice dream but its time to be realistic.
Patrick Patterson and the Raptors own 1st for Young?
