Anton123ParticipantHow is nobody talking about this guy?
To me he looks simply amazing, he may not jump very high, but you can’t call him unathletic: he has terrific quickness for a guy his size and great coordination and reaction. Yesterday he actually did a very good job guarding Blake Griffin’s attempts at driving to the basket, which really few big guys in the NBA can do.
He’s a huge kid with a good touch around the basket and what seems like nice passing instincts. He’s also very active on the court and seems to try very hard on most possesions, being around guys like Faried and JJ Hickson sure can’t hurt.
He’s also been rebounding very well all preseason and shows nice form on his jumper (though they don’t really go down yet).
What do you guys think of him as a player? He’s way more NBA ready than I thought he would be and I’m really excited to see how he develops.

OhCanada-ParticipantMost underrated rookie Im very high on him. Has all the issues any young C has as far as turnovers and foul issues go but with his quickness compared to size, great hands and footwork I cant help but think of DeMarcus Cousins. When he is on the court itd hard to imagone anyone else getting the rebounds without getting clobbered lol. He has great court vision although terrible decision making. He was defenitely worth a lotto pick and will prove to be an absolute steal. Great job by the Nuggets this year.

kazamParticipantI mentioned his name a few days ago on the site and boy I am excited to see what this guy can do when he is given an opportunity to play. He was a monster in the Adriatic League last year (not that that means much) but he can rebound and defend at a high rate. Fouls and finishing around the rim are issues- he has a good touch and is a better athlete than I think people realize.
Could be special.

Jayhawks2011ParticipantThe Bulls trade is going to be interesting to look back on in a few years. Wouldn’t they rather of had Gary Harris and Nurkic than Dougie McD?

TenSecondTomParticipantI watched the Adriatic League a ton with Cibona Zagreb being my favorite European team. While I think you are right in that Nurkic is undervalued and underrated it is important to note that his foul rate was not just bad, but terrible in the Adriatic League where elbowing someone in the face results in a foul on occassion. He was in foul trouble more often than not and he wasn’t receiving the bulk of the minutes intially. With that being said, I liken his game and physical attributes to someone like Nikola Pekovic, who I believe is one of the more underrated players in the league.

HitsterParticipantThe guy moved up the mock boards late on and was only just outside the lottery, Denver could have got another steal here rather like Faried. I rated him highly but didn’t think he’d adjust to the NBA that quickly as he only recently turned 20 and was very much a work in progress. But he’s got all the physical attributes with size and strength and his conditioning will of course improve.
From what I have seen he looks very impressive so far. As regards the Chicago-Denver trade, it looks fair for both sides. Chicago wanted an NBA ready guy so did the deal to get McDermott. Nurkic would have been a very nice prospect for Chicago but he’d have been stuck behind Gasol, Noah, Gibson, Mirotic etc so may not have seen as much playing time as in Denver.
However the thought of Coach Thibs refining Nurkic’s defensive game, Nurkic being able to learn from the current DPOY Noah and one of the best Euro bigs ever Pau Gasol would have been pretty interesting to watch.

JoeWolf1He’s been really good on the glass. I mean, really good, but his fouls have been about what you’d expect and clearly his biggest weakness. 4 PF per game in 19.3 mpg which is a 7.46 per 36 min and 9.9 per 48 min.
But at just 20, he has time to work on it. Nurkic could be a real enforcer if he can learn to stay on the floor. His growth in that area could be the difference between him being a starter or a part of a center by committee approach.
