Lotto StudParticipant I don’t knock Randle’s game at all and do in fact believe he will be a good player in the NBA, but I think the bar on comparisons are too ideal when being compared to Larry Johnson or Chris Webber because one wants him to be an instant star. As I sit back and see the obvious impact player comparisons, I’d figure I throw a bone out there that is respectable and acceptable on a skillset standpoint as well when I say why not Trevor Booker.

3 No Biases 3ParticipantEnough with these Randle comparisons, I think we’ve milked it dry. Everyone tries their hardest to belittle him, lets just wait to see what he does when he gets in the league.

redone1ParticipantThats a joke right. Trevor Booker was a senior by the time he showed NBA ability. Julius Randle is already better then Booker was as a senior. Give Randle 4 more years to improve and he will be a much better player then Booker ever will be. Randle has the work ethic you can’t teach.

surveParticipantAlthough some things I agree with, I gotta go to bat for Booker on this one. I knew he had pro potential when he was a soph. Definitely by the time he was a jr. he had NBA potential. his numbers his sr year were lower in every catagory than when he was a jr.
Booker played for some HORRIBLE Clemson teams that really set him back. He and Jerai Grant were absolute men on the boards…but they could never get a guard to pass them the ball. Purnell had a pitiful offense that was geared around a whole host of chuckers who would let it fly from half court. This is the reason they always got bounced as soon as they got in the tourney. Booker did his job but had to get all his buckets from offensive boards.
That being said, Randle of course is much more skilled than Booker ever was offensively. He is fairly polished where Booker was a strong, athletic dunker. Booker never had the offensive skills but he was a better defender and stronger than Randle…though Randle is only a frosh so that dont count really because he will get stronger.
You are absolutely right about his work ethic and drive though, this is why I dont understand why people down him so much. He is going to be a very good player when he improves that defense. Still, he is going to be better than Booker, thats not even a legit worse case to me.

the I in winParticipantThe projections of what Randle can would be a perfect outcome for Randle which unfortunately isn’t the most likely, he is more likely to fall short and be a player on the level of Trevor Booker. (I think this is the gist of what he was saying, I don’t agree whatsoever).

Memphisboy14ParticipantI would say that a closer comparison to me for Randle is Zach Randolph.

NeggedFolyfeI’m a Memphis fan also^^^ hes like an athletic Z-bo if you watch him not as polished in the post but he does have the potential offensively. like zbo he has that penitentiary strength and killer attitude . Demolishing anything inside the painted area hes really like a wrecking ball if you really want to compare him to anything lol.
Julius "Wrecking ball" Randle

JoeWolf1I compared his best case to Larry Johnson, and I don’t think that is out of the question at all…for a best case. Not everyone reaches their full potential, but if Randle does…I don’t think that a 20/10 guy, who doesn’t have elite length for a PF is out of his wheelhouse.
If he doesn’t, fine, but giving someone’s best case, doesn’t mean that you think he’ll reach his full potential or that you don’t realize that he may fall short. All I know, is that it’s too early to close the book on him. I pointed out his struggles in conference play a while ago, but young guys often hit walls, before adjusting, learning, and raising their play. I still love his relentlessness on the glass and in the post, if he doesn’t adjust this season, then maybe I’ll re-evaluate before draft time, but I still think he has untapped potential far beyond a role player like Booker.

ibe12ParticipantYou can’t really compare Randle to anyone because his size and skills are pretty unique. I saw one play where he got a rebound and went coast to coast and jammed it and it reminded me a lot of a young Barkley. He doesn’t have Barkley’s ups and I don’t see him being that good but I see a lot of Barkley type skills in his game with LJ’s body.

ScrubWebbParticipantI just watched an entire highlight package of him vs MSU sans dunks. He’s going to be a good player just without LJ type (pre-back surgery) athleticism.

Da1potParticipantTrevor Booker is a 6’6 power forward who is the ultimate hustle guy. He is an elite-level athlete who rebounds well despite his size and also has freakish strength. He did average 15 and 10 as a junior FYI….. His offensive game is improving and he has had a few double doubles between this season and last as a fill-in starter. He is an excellent role player who will carve out a long NBA career IMO.
Does that sound like Julius Randle at all?

mplsrawkusParticipantRandle’s size is just fine. he’s 6’8" & 6’9" w/shoes. at the combine Blake Griffin was 6’8.5" and Kevin Love was 6’7.75". and both there wingspans are under 7 feet. also Al Horford came in at the 6’8" range. check out draftexpress.com go to features and go to measurment history. you can’t check the official combine measurments of past drafts. (it’s a joke they list love at 6’10" for his program height for games)
