Watching the Kentucky-Northern Kentucky massacre this afternoon and all I can think is, "Holy Hell, Julius Randle is a beast". I have never seen a guy (kid?) his size andwith that kind of body who can move like that. It is unreal to see him explode to the rim, but equally impressive to see him grab a board, throw a laser outlet pass and then sprint the length of the floor like his life depended on it. Very interested to see him against better competition, but what a first college impression! 23 and 15 in his first game, now 11 and ten in the first half with 3 dimes.

 Teams must be thinking about him as in the running with Wiggins for that 1st pick.

 I’m high on him, as well. I knew his physicality would make him a guy who’d burst on to the scene at the NCAA level. I too am intrigued to see what he does against some higher caliber players, but I absolutely think he’s in the conversation for the 1st pick. I wouldn’t be shocked if he put up 17 ppg 10 rpg on the year. 

It was pointed out to me recently that he only has a 6’11” wingspan and an 8’9.5” standing reach, which isn’t elite, and might hurt him in the days leading up to the draft, but I’m still really high on him…especially since the dude can hit a free throw. When you play as hard as he can, which often leads to getting fouled, then hitting a free throw is a HUGE plus.

 I have said it before. I think Randle might be the best college player of the bunch, but this is about the Randle playing in NBA. The bully ball will not work in NBA. Power forward in NBA and college are so different. I watched the whole game of him vs Wiggins in EYBL and even though Wiggins was out weighed his length really bothered him and he wasn’t able to at all impose his will on the game.  I’ve watched his couple of games with Kentucky. Julius Randle at the most I think could become a more athletic Zach Randolph I think that is his ceiling in my opinion. I just think that people need to take heed the fact that while he is a very good player at the collegiate level and was a great player at the high school level he’s going to struggle against guys that are just as athletic as him with even longer wingspans. (Derrick Favors, Andre Drummond etc.) He has a good handle on the ball but he’s not gonna be initiating the offense at all once he gets to the NBA. The defenses just won’t allow it. I think the number one thing that is gonna hurt him even being in the conversation for the Top 3 picks is his pre-draft measurements. I always expect guys to be an inch or 2 shorter than what they are listed at in college. Also he only has a 6’10 or 6’11 wingspan which is definitely gonna limit his defensive potential and possibly how well he rebounds the ball.
