Watching the Kentucky-Northern Kentucky massacre this afternoon and all I can think is, "Holy Hell, Julius Randle is a beast". I have never seen a guy (kid?) his size andwith that kind of body who can move like that. It is unreal to see him explode to the rim, but equally impressive to see him grab a board, throw a laser outlet pass and then sprint the length of the floor like his life depended on it. Very interested to see him against better competition, but what a first college impression! 23 and 15 in his first game, now 11 and ten in the first half with 3 dimes.

Teams must be thinking about him as in the running with Wiggins for that 1st pick.

He’s the real deal the fact that he’s even rated as the number 5 spot is a joke. He’s in the disscussion with Wiggins and Parker as the top pick. I honestly believe the debate should be alot closer than some might think instead of wiggins being a lock.

He’s like Beasley…but with a brain and with a motor! I don’t see why you wouldn’t consider him with the #1 pick. It’ll be a tight race between Wiggins, him, Parker, and Exum for the #1.

can you guys imagine what the NBA is going to be like in like 4 years. when these guys are ‘seasones’ vets in the league. the NBA is only going to get better with these young guys coming in.

I’m high on him, as well. I knew his physicality would make him a guy who’d burst on to the scene at the NCAA level. I too am intrigued to see what he does against some higher caliber players, but I absolutely think he’s in the conversation for the 1st pick. I wouldn’t be shocked if he put up 17 ppg 10 rpg on the year.

It was pointed out to me recently that he only has a 6’11” wingspan and an 8’9.5” standing reach, which isn’t elite, and might hurt him in the days leading up to the draft, but I’m still really high on him…especially since the dude can hit a free throw. When you play as hard as he can, which often leads to getting fouled, then hitting a free throw is a HUGE plus.

his second and third attempts are what I think is going to set him apart.  He’s got a great nose for where his shot’s going and he always gets a hand on one of his misses.

I saw him and the rest of these great freshmen players at the Jordan Brand game couple months ago.

Randle won the MVP and Melo presented him the trophy.

Randle is BIGGER than Melo right now! bigger shoulders and an inch or two taller. He plays bully ball but he has skill. He can play the 4 position right now in the NBA. He should easily go top 3. I would take Parker and Wiggins over him but this Draft 14 is gonna be a great one.

I have said it before. I think Randle might be the best college player of the bunch, but this is about the Randle playing in NBA. The bully ball will not work in NBA. Power forward in NBA and college are so different. I watched the whole game of him vs Wiggins in EYBL and even though Wiggins was out weighed his length really bothered him and he wasn’t able to at all impose his will on the game. I also notice that he is a classic bully in the sense that when he knows he has advantage he is a beast. But he doesn’t seem to like taking the beating when it can be given right back to him. He tends to drift outside then. To me he is going to lose out because GM’s are going to see him as tweener not good enough shooter ballhandler to be 3 but not dominant in the post with feet and actually post moves to make you feel like you are getting a true low post player.

Hybrids are boom or bust. In college he is going to run into someone as physically talented as him 4-5 times in the season. In the NBA it will be everynight against best of best. People forget the 10th, 11th, 12th man on NBA team was a top player in college too. That is why I think Jabari and Wiggins will go before him they both true have unquestioned positions. I also think people are trying to find flaws with Wiggins because of the hype. I will bet by years end Wiggins will be a dominant force. Not only on offence but defence. That to me is what seperates the 3 players. Wiggins potentially could be not just a first team all NBA but first team all defence too. He is the only one of the 3 that asks to cover the best player on the other team he did that for CIA Bounce and for the World Team. Wiggins ceiling is the highest I have seen since LBJ on both sides of the ball.

People always say the bully ball won’t work in the NBA yet Zach Randloph Kevin Love Carlos boozer prove other wish many times. What people fail to realize is that these kids are strong for heir age groupe and will only get stronger and ever tulle they become strong vets and in their prime they are playing agains the other guys who are in their age group. Randle is 6’9 and 250 strong, athletic, skilled, fast high motor, handles as a ox as a 19 year old…..let that sink in for a minute.  Does Lebron still over power people?  Boozer? ZBo Blake?

you also take into account that who ever guarding him at tht of will be off balnce while guarding him on the drive which is a huge advantage for the driver. Then think about the weight program he will start whe he becomes a pro. Right ow it’s just god given strength but eventually he all add weigh room power as well.   Plus how many PF can guard on the outside any have the size and motor that he has?  Will he have moments where he struggles as a rookie, of course but he will get stronger, faster, more athletic than he is now.

And have you noticed in the games he’s not just back guys down and over powering them he is driving past them or out qui king them and then powering up. He’s using up and under moves and step through. He’s scoring through skill and getting to the line by finishing with power

The players you compared prove my point though Zach 19th pick, Love 5th, Boozer 35th none were ever spoken of as #1 pick. Boozer has alway struggled in playoffs, Love is no bully he is a stretch 4 that is a great defensive rebounder, Z-Bo has always been dominat insider scorer all the way back to high school.

I am not saying Randle is bad player at all. I am saying unless Wiggins flops which I doubt he will. Between his upside and the physical testing pre draft which he will blow away. I don’t think any GM does a Sam Bowie with Wiggins. Think of it this way the 2003 draft even as good as melo, bosh and wade are would you swap them for lebron. That is the wiggins, randle, parker dilema. The 2003 guys all maxed there potential and if you can only have one EVRYONE picks lebron. No GM wants to explain to his owner why he didn’t pick Wiggins if he reach his potential even if the next guy turns out to be very good player.

I think there’s a difference between bully ball (Sean May / Glen Davis) and bully ball with skill (ZBo / MGasol).

You can definitely get away with bully ball in the NBA but you need to have the skill to back it up.  Julius Randle definitely has the skill.  If the bully ball doesn’t work in the NBA, he can simply take his opponent to the high block and take him off the dribble or post him up low and give them a post move.

This dude is very polished and isn’t just a bully ball player.

I wouldnt compare Wiggins to Lebron. Wiggins has a more slender build in comparison to Lebron… And from what I remember Lebron seemed to be better than Wiggins when he was 19…. I would compare Wiggins with TMac and George more so than Lebron. Either way, Anyone with a top 5 pick IMO will get a superstar, unless someone busts….

Randle doesn’t need to over power guys though, he is fast and athletic enough to get to the rim on all The NBA power forwards and strong enough to finish. Doubt that he has any big issue after his rookie year. He’s easily a all star talent with a high motor. He finished consistently on T.jones, Anthony Davis, Demarcus Cousin, Patrick Patterson consistently during the summer, so much so that they all said he could start and do work right now in the NBA. (Seth Greenburg was there as well and agreed).

I worry more about Wiggins. The are a lot of tall athletic wings in the NBA and He has trouble beating guys with his handles, his jumper isn’t consistent and worst of all he has a motor problem

This might sound outlandish but the closest comparison to Randle might just be Lebron James. What other 6’9" 250 lb player can match Randle’s combination of quickness, strnegth, hops, and basketball IQ? Can’t wait to see what he does Tuesday against the veteran loaded Michigan State.

Those of you that are waiting on Julius Randl’es play against better competition clearly drink hate arade. Whether he struggles against Michigan state or not he is NOT a better version of Antoine Walker or a high ceiling Beasley. This guy doesn’t have to punk nba 4’s in the league to be successful. His game is about speed power finesse and skill.  In today’s Nba world he has the perfect game and is a pick and pop specialist being able to make multiple reads .  Put him in any NBA offense and he will strive.  Forget better competition , this cat has passed the Eye test.  I’m also looking at Dakari Johnson being a better pro then college player becasue he will get more opportunities to showcase his skillset.  Teams better give a strong look at Randle and Parker at number 1. i believe this draft will cause more GM’s to be questioned than any. There is a distinct difference between a SOLID PRO versus a Franchise player.

I’ve watched his couple of games with Kentucky. Julius Randle at the most I think could become a more athletic Zach Randolph I think that is his ceiling in my opinion. I just think that people need to take heed the fact that while he is a very good player at the collegiate level and was a great player at the high school level he’s going to struggle against guys that are just as athletic as him with even longer wingspans. (Derrick Favors, Andre Drummond etc.) He has a good handle on the ball but he’s not gonna be initiating the offense at all once he gets to the NBA. The defenses just won’t allow it. I think the number one thing that is gonna hurt him even being in the conversation for the Top 3 picks is his pre-draft measurements. I always expect guys to be an inch or 2 shorter than what they are listed at in college. Also he only has a 6’10 or 6’11 wingspan which is definitely gonna limit his defensive potential and possibly how well he rebounds the ball. I watch the Memphis Grizzlies all the time and one thing that Zach Randolph definitely had going for him was his wide and very powerful body he also has extremely long arms. I don’t think his perimeter skills are good enough for him to be a stretch 4 yet I don’t think his post skills are good enough for him to be a banger when he gets in the NBA. If he does turn out to be a good player in the NBA I envision him struggling his first season or 2 before he takes off. I wish him the best and if he proves wrong then great but I don’t see this Superstar potential that everyone else sees.

Julius Randle won’t measure out short. He has measured 6’9 in shoes at Nike camps before and 6’10 in shoes at a few camps. Not sure which one is more accuarate. So I will place him at 6’9.5. Yes his wingspan is not that long at about 6’11. But I just feel Julius has a lot of "know how" to his game and a lot of toughness. Mentally and physically. He will be a very good player in the pro’s in my opinion. He may not be as long as we would like him to be. But what else is he really lacking for an 18-19 year old?

Why does this site have him ranked #5? He clearly is top 3, at worst. Very well could be the best player. Is this site trying to be different? Hates left-handed people? Hates UK? Loves Marcus Smart’s fauxhawk? Loves Australlia? Who knows?

I have always been high on him.  He and Wiggins are gonna be good NBA players.  I think he is going to play his way into making teams think twice about passing on him for Wiggins.  Why?  Wiggins a phenomenal physical talent that has not scratched the surface yet, sort of like early version of Durant.  You can see he will be good, he just needs the time.  The thing is…he looks like a guy who still doesnt truly KNOW how good he can really be.  The difference between him and Randle is….Julius lacks NO confidence.  He already believes he’s the best.
