I just watched the D-Fenders take on the Tulsa 66ers as he scored a career high 31 points and 7 assists. He looked very impressive as he showed his ability to attack the basket which he failed to show much of his one year in Arizona and he seems to have established a higher IQ as he makes a lot more smart decisions on the court. I can still remember when this website projected him as a lottery pick for the 2012 Draft as he had a lot of momentium coming out of high school. Turner’s troubles both on and off the court got him suspended for a big portion of his one college season and it also costed him his career at Arizona. He then commited to transfer to SMU until weeks later when Turner changed his mind and made the decision to go pro. After leading his team in Canada to the championship, Josiah Turner did not recieve one summer league invite from an NBA Team as well as a training camp invite. Hopefully if he can continue to succed this year, he could possibly get an invite and at least the the opportunity to try out for an NBA team. Glad to see he is starting to get his career back on track and if he can just show NBA teams that he has matured, hopefully it can happen.

He was indeed cut from his first team in Canada, the Halifax Rainmen, after 15 games. He did much better on his next team, the Summerside Storm, where he averaged 10.7 ppg and 6.1 apg. Still, would not say he "led them to a championship" as much as he played a solid role and was the fourth, fifth leading scorer/set-up man. Just kind of makes it sound like Turner tore it up more than I think he really did, although he did do well in the first three finals games against eventual champ London, before a pretty poor final game 4. Also of note is that he initially tried to go to Hungary where he never ended suiting up for a game, eventually being granted his release.

Definitely have nothing against him and thought he was quite talented, though his freshman year at Arizona was a huge let down. Especially seeing that they were desperate for a PG that year and it seemed like a great opportunity, he just did not look ready. Jeff Eisenberg had a really good article chronicling Turner’s difficulties since arriving at Arizona. Though, even the end of his time in high school possibly pointed to more problems to come. Seems like he did need to go through a serious maturation process, maybe this is indeed a good sign.

Also want to point out that while he had a fantastic game against Tulsa, he has played 27 on the season and is averaging 21.4 mpg, 9.4 ppg, 4.5 apg (1.85 topg, so decent ratio) and 3.1 rpg. Just wanted to give some back story that while he had a great game today, he is not necessarily doing this on an every game basis. Will say, shooting 11-13 FG and 9-11 FT in 28 minutes off the bench is definitely a great game by any standards. That I will definitely give him props for and am glad he is working towards a chance. Though, it does seem like something he definitely does have to work for and the decisions he made in certain scenarios have made this a pretty rough path to the league, if he does indeed get there.
